- Slim replies to DocWhat options does one have to defend themselves against intrusive callers?
• The Do Not Call list (Federal or State)
Works, but is effective against ONLY "legitimate" telemarketers. Political callers, surveys and some other callers are exempt. Scammers, spammers and criminals ignore the DNC list.
• Shouting, screaming, swearing at the caller
Nope. Does not stop calls. May make you hoarse, and will disturb nearby people.
• Call blocker app, device or service
Could be a good choice (even though the scammers can use fake phone numbers), and some apps are free!
Google "call blocker" for more information, or check your favorite online sales site for a list.
* Your phone provider may also offer blocking services. Check their web page for information.
If you cannot use any of the above defenses, then:
• Do not answer calls from unknown numbers ... let them go to voicemail or answering service
• Do NOT return calls from unknown numbers! All that does is verify your phone number! And, in some cases, those return calls may cost $20 or more to complete.

• If you have a "dumb" cell phone, assign the scammer's number to a group named "scammers" (or similar). Then, assign a silent ringtone to that group.
_/ - gw| 2 replieshad same phone number for 30 years, must be on every call list in USA and the World. Do NOT CALL list is useless. Have tried call block, call rejection, ie. Only thing left to do is go wireless and never give that number out to anyone.
- Caller: credit card
- Call type: Telemarketer
- Slim replies to gwThe DNC list works for the purpose for which it was intended: stop or reduce calls from legitimate telemarketers.
Scammers now use "war dialers". They dial all numbers in a set of numbers. Eventually, they will dial your number, even if it is unlisted and not distributed.
If you have tried ALL other methods to stop scam calls, but still get those calls, consider burying your disconnected phone under several feet of dirt. You will then get no further calls.
However, if you still want the convenience of a phone, learn how to use a good call blocker. - Judith PI get this same call every day, from different numbers. When I'm home, I do a *69 and report a complaint. We have a basic, basic phone service and do almost all our calls on our cellphones so I don't think I can block calls.

- J&K, Dunnellon, FL replies to Tired of themWhen I first started getting those kind of calls, I did the same thing as you. One time when I asked to be taken of the list, she said, "You called me, I didn't call you". Those people have no morals and should be put in jail.
- Heather - NoVAThey call almost every day - to the point that when I see the number I ignore it. I've called the number back, and if you press "1", you'll supposedly be removed from their call list. If you press "1" when the call is live, you will get an operator - and if you ask to be removed from the call list, that operator will hang up on you.
Have been on the DNC list for years; and even reregistered our numbers. So much for that.- Caller: Assume this is a scam - Lower your Credit

- Johnny sada replies to jetames| 2 repliesHow do u block this numbers
- cjbGet these stupid calls all the time. My cellphone has a "Reject Call" option on the menu... not the same as "Decline call" button when the call comes in. You select the numbers from your call log that are the telemarketers and press menu button and the select "reject call". It won't stop the calls, but you won't get multiple calls from the same numbers.
