- Bea in DC| 1 replyI got the lovely phone call today. I was so distraught by how threatening this woman was that I confirmed my birthdate and she said "HA!" you just confirmed that YOU gave your birthdate to the person that called you about the publication and that confirms you agreed to their order. Talk about putting words in my mouth. Because I interrupted her she called me rude. I told her she must be used to it as she worked for such an awful collections organization. She did not like that. I explained anyone can get your birthdate infromation especially if they got my name from some list.
Well, I really do hate circumstances that make me doubt myself. I know I would have never agreed to something if it WAS NOT FREE. Which is what they said. I also never received any publication, and I have kept an eye for it.
I am glad I found this website, it has calmed me down and I have let my CFO know.- Caller: International Credit / Progressive Business Publications

- Dan in Pennsylvania| 1 replySame story are everybody else. To get a salesperson off the phone, I stupidly agreed to take some risk-free free samples, got maybe 2 of them (a worthless newsletter called Environmental Compliance Alert"). Like everybody else, I am now getting harassed by Valerie Oliver of International Credit. When I asked, she would not give her phone number but found this via Google.
But, my God, this email thread is now at least 2 years long, and I can see that several people have filed complaints with Attorneys General in various states, and these people are still scamming. What's wrong with our government??? Oh well, I'm going to write a letter and follow up with the Pennsylvania Attorney General, and I'm going after Progressive Business Applications as well.

- Mary in NYC| 1 replyJust got the call from "Amanda", which was weird so i googled the number. She was a little too chirpy and then curt when I argued with her. She gave me a wrong birthdate and then said she would record that we gave erroneous information which we could get into trouble for. I would pursue this further with the agencies listed above, but as someone else said, this thread is over 2 years old! and these people are using the same phone number! why isn't anything being done?

- Kristin replies to Ron56| 2 repliesI received the same call from Valerie Oliver at the same number, mine was for $240.00. She was the rudest little girl I have ever spoken to. I requested an invoice and she kept pressing that I should just pay it over the phone with a credit card. Finally I told her without an invoice there is no possiblity of payment- there definitely isn't seeing how we never received the publication. She finally sent it 2 days later but she is still continuing to call three times a day. Ridiculous.
- Jesse| 1 replyJust got another (4th) invoice for $98.00, Needless to say, I'm not paying it, if they want to call, let them, it's their dime.

- mArkansas replies to KristinOur company also received a call from Valerie today. Claiming that our Marketing person Michael had placed an order that had not been paid. When she was informed that he was out of town until Wednesday, she had to speak to his supervisor today becuase this was going for collection on Wednesday. I told her it didn't matter becuase without Michael's informaiton it would not get handled until Wednesday. She then wanted to speak to the accounts payable peron which didn't get her anywhere because that happens to be me also. She then requested to speak to the CFO which get her another big no where because that is me. I would not speak with her about whatever she was calling about. I have dealt with scam people in the past and even though I had no idea who or what company she was with becuase she didn't bother to identify her company her actions were the same as all the others. She knew nothing! She tried to press the issue that this was company related invoice that was going to cause us credit problem etc and it was very important that this get dealt with today!. She even had the audicity to ask that I contact Michael on his cell phone to get in touch with her. NO LEGITIMATE company acts the way she was acting. I will be filing a notice with Arkansas's Attorney General and with New York where I figured out this company is supposedly headquarters.
- AZACCT| 1 replystarted getting bills from them after we sent registered letters to cease the billing and cancel any subscriptions we supposedly ordered, when that didn't work filed a complaint on line with the BBB at dc-easternpa.bbb.org within less than a month received a letter from Progressive that stated if we had requested it be stopped in writing they would have automatically done it. Funny, they now have closed the account with no balance due since I contacted the BBB but nothing until that. The person who sent the letter is Thomas Schubert (CFO) the number on top of the letter is 610-695-8600, fax in 610-651-2921. If you are having problems getting resolution, try calling them or file a complaint with BBB

- Danno| 2 repliesJust got a call from Lori Appleton from ICR in Vestal NY as well. Claims we owe for these publications from Progressive Business Solutions and she was very proud to know my birthday. Guess I filled out a survey or something that they got their hands on. Look at the legit ICR website in California and get a chuckle out to the BOG BOX with the disclaimer "WE ARE IN NO WAY ASSOCIATED WITH ICR IN NEW YORK" lol. What a scam!! If I hear from her again I will take the time to complain to the postmaster and the AG of New York as well as the BBB of Pensylvania and New York.

- David Thomas| 1 replyThe same thing happened to my nonprofit charity for disabled children. "Sam" called me several times over the past few days from phone number 607-748-4686, claiming that I had subscribed to "Foundation & Corporate Funding Advantage," a publication I have never received or heard about. She claimed I had authorized them to send me a free copy and agreed to pay for a subscription unless I sent it back and cancelled. "Sam" also threatened to turn our account over to collections and notify the credit companies. When I told her I had not ordered it, she gave my birthdate as proof. I told her that just because she found my birthdate somewhere was not proof (I know for a fact that I do not give out my birthdate or social security number to anyone). She became huffy and threatening, so I hung up on her. We will report this company to the Texas Attorney General and to the Better Business Bureau.

- Tinkerbell replies to SuzanneThis is all still happening. Got a series of calls from Laurie Appleton, threats, all the same. the "Manager" called to be good cop and offered the same $100 get you off the hook con...of course we don't have a credit card so it would have been on my personal card. No way. The catch they've seemed to add is that they told me it would go on my *personal* credit report...that I was personally responsible for this bill.
I wish I'd googled all this stuff before I talked to them on the phone. Our lawyer told me to forward any further correspondence to her and she would send a letter.
Horrible. Nearly ruined my day. Seeing that I was not alone is a huge relief though I'm sorry these rotten people exist. How they sleep at night preying on tiny nonprofits trying to squeeze them for $100 is beyond me. - Richard| 1 replyI received several invoices and never ordered the newsletter. The invoice did not have a phone number as I recall. I threw it in the trash. Today I received a call from International Recovery (Kathy Rema). She threatened me to put my company collection status and then began arguing with me about whether I gave someone my birth date as proof of the order. I finally had to hang up on her after she became impertinent. Total scam!!!!

- Rich| 1 replyI received a call yesterday from “Lindsey” about an invoice that had not been paid by our company. When I explained what the company acronym stood for there suddenly was an issue with her system. She was going to have to call back when it came back up. She was sorry for the inconvenience. Since she did not call back I looked up the number she called from and have learned a lot about “Lindsey” and her company. I suppose the company acronym did not adequately explain what we do. We are a legal firm with offices in five states. Guess that scared her off.

- Regina| 1 replyI received the same call from Cynthia Thomas who said my company owed for a publication from Progressive Budiness Solutions. I told her I had not ordered such a publication. She then told me she would report me to the Credit Bureau and it would go against my personal credit if I didn't pay the bill that day. She told me that Progress BS had my birthdate to verify I had ordered the publication. I asked her to send me a copy of an invoice or proof of where I actually ordered this, and she told me that Progress BS e-mail it to me. I knew this had to be a scam, so Iooked on the internet and, sure enough, MANY others had the same thing to happen. I have reported these people to the Attorney General's Office in New York.
