I believe this is the number that rings through when a caller is challenged by the Nomorobo service to prove they aren't a telemarketer. A State Farm agent was trying to call me about a claim from 877-783-1200 and they were being blocked as a telemarketer by Nomorobo.

I got a series of calls tonight from 8009557070 which my NOMOROBO hung up on. I then got a call from 6083716666 and they left a message. It was from CapitalOne Credit Fraud Alert Team and it was legitimate. I verified by calling back the number on my credit card. Evidently CapitalOne has a dialer which calls every number they have associated with you. They called two different landlines and a cell phone. So I had a legitimate experience with this number.

I also have NOMOROBO. I can add another twist to this mystery. My 85 year old cousin, who is definitely not a telemarketer, calls all the time. One day about 6 weeks ago, he couldn't get through using his personal line because NOMOROBO blocked him. His number showed up on my caller ID, but it was blocked after one ring like NOMOROBO usually does for spam calls. This continued to happen for a number of days and didnt clear up so I went to the NOMOROBO website and input my cousin's personal line on the website where indicated to let NOMOROBO know that they should unblock my cousin's number because it is not a spam number. Now, when my cousin calls, he still gets blocked but the number 608-371-6666 shows up on my caller ID and so if I pick it up on the first ring, I can talk to my cousin. It is very irritating for both my cousin and me. Because I reported it to NOMOROBO and then started to get the 608 number and because my cousin is not a spam caller, it seems to me that this is some screwup by NOMOROBO and not some trick that the spammers are using. Whatever it is, I just want it fixed and am thinking about turning off NOMOROBO. Don't get me wrong, I love NOMOROBO, but I can't have it blocking my family.

Unfortunately the illegal telemarketers are using peoples personal phone numbers or local phone numbers to try and get people to answer their phones now to call people and thus they get reported.  This would indeed appear to be a problem where nomo is concerned. :(

Hmmm, yes, your thoughts seem to be a more logical explanation of what happened with my cousin. That is, some telemarketing company used my cousin's number as a caller ID mask and then somebody reported the number to NOMOROBO thus blocking my cousin's number. If that is what happened, it won't be long before the utility of NOMOROBO becomes worthless as the telemarketing companies just use everybody's personal numbers to mask their number in Caller ID and those numbers eventually all get put on NOMO's blacklist as they are reported. Bummer.

I got called by it , immediately after a block call. I called it back and it says it's the nomorobo report line. [***] are getting smarter.

Yeah, I think this is some kind of pass-through from Nomorobo.  I first received a phone call from 866-921-6736 (a number which I have since confirmed as American Express) which was blocked by Nomorobo, and then almost immediately received a phone call from this 608-371-6666 number which ended up being -- you guessed it -- American Express.  They were looking for someone else, so I'm guessing it was a legitimate call.  Not sure why Nomorobo blocked it and then passed it through on their own number.

I am a little confused. I got two calls one right behind the other. Both were one-ring then stopped by NoMoRobo. After reading the most recent comments, I called the number and it was NoMoRobo asking me to input the number that called me. The first call came from a Senatorial candidate and was apparently blocked because it was robo-dialed.

I have a CapitalOne card, so I checked with them to see if they had tried to reach me about fraud or anything else. They had not.

One thing does amaze me, though. When an intended "customer" actively blocks them, why do they think that calling another way will make the recipient suddenly interested in becoming a customer? It seems like what's really going on is an ego battle, rather than simple marketing or scamming.

I just read one entry from an earlier date that helps clear up the confusion I expressed above.

I had no number to give to this number when I called back, so I simply hung up. It did not make sense that NMR would block itself.

MAJOR OBSERVATION: I'm sure some — maybe many — will be confused and cancel NMR, which is what the scammers would LOVE. Given how much peace and quiet it has given me, I wouldn't jump to such a pointless conclusion, but the world is made up of all kinds.

They first called from (714) 463-6159, but were blocked by NOMOROBO. 5 seconds later they called from (608) 371-6666
which is the NOMOROBO reporting number that they have spoofed. The guy identified his business as Builders Construction Company.

I called this number back...  Got a recorded voice saying it was nomorobo and asked me to input the number that called me.  I input the same number and it said it was accepted or something like that, then told me to hang up.

Got two  calls from this number, one from 215-375-7038 and the second from 608-371-6666. nomorobo blocked both. These scammers hope they can get their call through. I already blocked them by my phone because they tried this before. All of us are getting smarter in avoidance. STOP SCAMMING!!!

Guess this is the mystery number. Had a few experiences this year with this number calling right after some scam charities, not sure if NOMOROBO blocked it. Today this number called and seemed to be blocked by NOMOROBO because it rang just once. Immediately after got a call from 407-903-6100, CID was Marriott Vacations. They left a message that sounded straight, was offering a vacation. Not sure how this works.

Received a call from 608-371-6666.  As others have reported, I received a call which appeared to be blocked by Nomorobo, as my phone lit up with an incoming call, but then it immediately dropped, which is normal behavior for Nomorobo.  Nomorobo is so quick with the block that numbers they catch don't even register on my caller id, so I can't even say what number was originally blocked.  Then, within a couple of seconds the call identifying itself as 608-371-6666 came through and rang 6 times before ending.  I didn't answer it and no message was left.  Some commenters above have speculated that this is a passthrough of some kind from Nomorobo.  I have never seen any documentation that Nomorobo does this.  It doesn't make sense to me that Nomorobo would pass through a call that it intercepted.  It also doesn't make sense that they would use the number that is used to report numbers to them.  It seems more likely to me that scammers who detect that their calls are dropped are immediately redialing using this number.  This is the first time I've seen this behavior.  

I also received a call from this number, immediately after a preceding call which NoMoRobo caught.  The voice message was from Walgreen's Take Care Health Clinic, and left a different return number of 877-865-9011.

I did not return the call to find out it's intent.

call came through from 646-963-2461 and nomorobo blocked it ...immediately a call came through with 608-371-6666.
I've reported this number to nomorobo but it's still coming through and not being blocked.

Same here.  I've received a couple of calls from Stoneleigh (a junk debt collector) and this time from the Nomorobo number.  Hopefully nomorobo can unravel all this.  Since nobody left a message it was of no concern to me.

This number rang like 1 sec after another call was blocked.  This one got blocked too.  Love NOMOROBO.

Just about the same thing from the listings above one number then the 608 shows up, did not answer either.  Thanks to nomorobo you guys are GREAT

This number 608-371-6666 is used by nomorobo to forward allowed calls. This call was from United Health Care in regards to my wife's insurance.
