- Betty| 1 replyEducate yourselves about the FDCPA. It is a federal law and not just a suggestions as these people told me. Check it out on this site http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/consumer/credit/cre18.shtm or just Google FDCPA Laws.
The FDCPA restricts debt collectors from engaging in conduct including the following:
•Contacting a third party who does not owe the debt, such as a relative, neighbor, or your employer. Co-signers to the debt, however, may be contacted by the debt collector;
•Threatening to refer your account to an attorney, harm your credit rating, repossession or garnishment, without actual intention of action on the threat. Please note that a debt collector may warn you of an actual impending intention to refer your case to an attorney or to report your debt to a credit agency. What they cannot do is use a false threat to try to intimidate you into paying;
•Making repeated telephone calls or telephone calls at unreasonable times. The act defines unreasonable times as contat before 8:00 AM or after 9:00 PM, unless you have given the debt collector permission to contact you during those hours;
•Placing telephone calls to an inconvenient place. For example, contacting you at work in violation of a policy by your employer that is known to the debt collector or following a request by you that they not contact you at work;
•When placing a telephone call to you at work, informing your employer of the purpose of the call, unless first asked by the employer;
•Using obscenity, racial slurs or insults;
•Sending letters which appear to have come from a court;
•Seeking collection fees or interest charges not permitted by your contract or by state law;
•Requesting post-dated checks with the intention to prosecute if they bounce;
•Suing in courts far removed from your place of residence;
•Making certain false representations in association with efforts to collect the debt, including the false claim that the person contacting you in relation to the debt is an attorney, falsely claiming to have started a lawsuit, using a false name, or using stationery that is designed to look like an official court or government communication;
•Using false claims to collect information about the debtor, such as pretending to be conducting a survey;
•Threatening you with arrest if you do not pay the debt.- Caller: WFNNB

- ToodamnfunnySo these people have called over and over again for months on end. Finally one day I just answered it. There was an actual person on the end and he asked to talk to me. So it all continued the we're going to take you to court. You know you made a contract with so and so and now your going back on your word....etc. When I told him I had been out of work over a year, he had the gall to ask me how I paid my utilities and such. I told him that wasn't any of his business really but that my husband worked 2 jobs to try and make up for me not working. He said well why don't you just ask him for the money??? I said "I just told you that he's working 2 jobs so we can stay in our home and eat and pay utilities. He continued, well you need to get your priorities straight. I said I do, and you are on the bottom of the list. When and if I get any money "everyone" I owe will get their money. He told me that wasn't suitable. I asked him if he'd rather I write him a hot check for the bill. He said if you knowingly do that that's a felony and we will throw you in jail. I laughed at him, told him he was a jerk and hung up. What the hell do these people think? I can pull money out of my butt? If i could I sure as hell wouldn't be talking to him. I put them on my Reject list, that is until they decide to call from another number....aaaahhhhhh. LMAO

- World Financial - Store Credit CardsThis is a collection agency for store credit cards such as LANE BRYANT, VICTORIA'S SECRET, etc. My mom has a Lane Bryant store credit card and has been unable to make her payment for a few months due to losing her job, so now they call her non stop and also call me several times daily because I've spoken to them in the past to make her payments and now they have my number too. I've never answered the phone when they call and they never leave a message. I don't know how they treat people that they are trying to collect from, but by the sound of other posts I don't want to find out.

Then they asked how long i've had this number.. oh... about 11 years now!

They are rude and talk over you, I am not the one they were looking for I answered the phone for the person who was not home and I asked who was calling and what it was in reference too, informed the "agent" she was not here and asked if I could give her a message, the agent said i didnt hear that and refused to leave a message. - maryI agree with many people on their posts. This company is "STUPID" and calling people and harassing them is ILLEGAL. I wish someone would take them to court and sue their ass.

- nicole replies to BettyBetty you are so right! Under federal law all legitimate debt collection agencies are required to follow the FDCPA. I used to work for one about a year ago and I can't even begin to imagine that this company is legit. I moved to florida and got a new cellphone number six months ago and started receiving calls for "Audrey". I however am not her, yesterday I received a call from this number and no one was there. They called again this evening and again no one on the other end. So I hung up and called back a woman answered with the whole world national whatever and asked for my name, I told her I was nicole but I didn't know why I was getting calls; she asked for the number I was being reached at, I told her. She then asked for the same "Audrey" I told her that I didn't know her but I'd received calls in the past for her- then with no warning I was transferred to a man who started grilling me about actually being audrey and why was I lying. I couldn't believe it. So I asked to please have my number removed since I am not who they're looking for- then they hung up. About 10 minutes later they called again- a woman this time who was the rudest person I'd ever talked to I ended up telling her to [***] off and if I got another call I'd report them to the better business bureau; which everyone should say. All in all a horrible experience and I'm not even the debtor. Anyone getting harassing calls from this company should threaten them with the better business bureau; and the fdcpa. Hope this helps!
- AliWell - I've had enough of these calls for someone who previously had my new number. I have call forwarding and just set the number(s) to forward right back to their company. That way they can call all their own people and harrass each other. Tired of these people and ohhhh such quiet bliss. No phone calls. So far so good.

- CassandraThey are trash!! Some idiot just told me I was a poor excuse and that I should be ashamed of myself. When I called back to speak to a manager about the issue, she said, "I don't mean to cut you off, but I am only concerned about what you are going to do about this bill", I was trying to explain that I have cancer and a 15 month old. With all the pain I havel, I do good to work enough to keep the lights on and my child fed. She said, "Boy, you really have a story" and LAUGHED!! These people will someday rot in H#LL

- annoyedSeeing all of the previous posts, I'm glad I don't have caller ID. I've had to resort to screening my calls. If they hang up, they aren't getting a call back!
Today, however, I had a message. The pause was so long, I went to push 'delete', thinking it was a hangup. Just as I pushed it, someone said 'hello'. Worried that it might've been someone I'd actually want to talk to, I called *69. Then I looked up the number on the web.
They've been harrassing me as well for a Catherine's account. I've talked to them numerous times. They toy with me by asking me what I'd be able to pay each month. I've given them different answers each time, from $1 a month up to $25. Every time they say that that's not acceptable. Of course they also add that the bank is trying to collect a debt, so wouldn't they take SOMETHING?!
My bill was $39.xx. They want me to pay over $240 for "late fees and interest". Not happening. I'm not working. They don't care. They don't want any payments under $54.00. For a bill that was $39 a couple of months ago?!?!- Caller: 614-212-7554

- Ruby replies to The Researcher| 3 repliesThis World Financial bank calls me 3-4 times a day and I know Why because they bought out a credit card company that i used from a department store. My card was paid up in full balance (I only spent $10) I then start getting calls from this company saying that i owe over $100!! So I settled it with a mail in payment that I didnt owe, it was apparently some kind of fee that THEY put on my account and it kept recieveing interest fees that i knew nothing about! about 2 weeks later I started getting the calls again saying i owed More Money!!! This company is a scam Artist and I have tried many times to work it out and they are nothing but Idiots! I feel sorry for anyone else that they have harrassed.
