I got a call this morning 10/23/13. Wanted me to verify name and address. He had my name and address. Said he was from Social Security Office. Wanted my bank name. Did not give it. Told him I would not give him that info. He said my benefits would be cancelled if I did not give out the information. I said I don't think so. He said yes it would. I said no it will not. He hung up. Second time for this type of call.

I just foolishly answered a call from this number because I have friends in the area code. A man with a strong Indian accent started asking me about receiving my new Medicare card. I told him immediately that I wouldn't deal with this by phone and hung up.This is obviously scam to get people's Social Security numbers.

My husband is retiring this next month and our land line is going.  It is a crying shame that these scam artist can't be stopped.  We just put in a phone line for my 99 year old mother at her assisted living and she is already getting these calls and now won't answer the phone at all.  This is her only contact with most of her family and these sicko's won't leave her alone and she wants it removed.

Buy her a call blocking device or phone.. The problem with most "new" phone numbers is that they are someone else's old number, and the illegal telemarketers use dialers - they don't obey any laws so will feel free to dial relentlessly.

The T-lock Incoming PRO Call Blocker sells for under 60 bucks on Amazon and can block up to 1500 numbers.

And do file complaints on these numbers!

Received a call from 617 284 1955, a man with a heavy accent asked me if I was____ . and recited my name, phone number, address, and yes my Social Security number.  He informed me that before they can continue to do a direct deposit they need me to verify my bank and other information.  There was noise in the background, it seemed like there was a number of phone workers in that room.  I informed him that I WILL NOT GIVE HIM THAT INFORMATION, and he immediately hung up the phone.  When I called that number back, there was a message that, "this number is not in service."  I believe that there should be more publicity given to this kind of deception and fraud, there is little or no publicity to warn the vulnerable!

Got a call at 5:43pm and was able to activate my SIT tone.  I listened after I played the tone but it must have confused them as no one said a word.  I hung up.

I received a call from a thick foreign sounding man claiming to be from Medicare.  He called me by name and  knew my address.  He asked me to give him the name of the bank where my social security check is sent.  When I told him the name of the bank he asked me to get my check book and read me the bank numbers.  He said, "Is it these the numbers on the left?"  When I said yes he then said read the rest of the numbers.  I told him I would not give him my bank account number.

When I asked why the new medicare card he explained that the card was for dental, eyes and ears.  He said I could continue to use my current medicare card along with this new one.  I hung up because he insisted that I give him my bank number.

The caller kept repeated calling me back.  I finally said let me talk to your supervisor.  The supervisor yelled into the phone, Just give me the bank number!"  I said, "I'm not giving you my bank number", he said, "Go [***] yourself!"

Remember Medicare and Social Security NEVER call you!!! They mail their information.

    Worried in Maine
Caller ID said "Unknown name". The caller said that he was from the Medicare Verification Center, that I was to receive a new Medicare card, but that he had to verify my information first.Heavy middle eastern accent. He gave my address and phone number, both of which were correct. Then he said that he needed to know the name of the bank where my Social Security payments were deposited. Knowing it was a scam, I told him that I wasnt sure and that my daughter takes care of that for me. He then yelled at me and said, "you are lying" and hung up on me. When I refused to give that information he hung up. I am 82 years old and I dont need this to happen. I am not in good health.

Received call this phone number this morning. Heavily accented man said he was with the "Social Security" office regarding my Social Security checks, and wanted to verify some information. He told me my home address, and asked me to verify, then asked what bank my checks are being sent to. I hung up on him. First of all, I don't receive SS checks, and I'm not in the habit of volunteering personal information over the phone. Saying yes to the address was more than I usually do, but wanted to find out what he was about.

Interestingly, I called my local phone carrier (as the phone book suggested), and they said other than noting it on my phone record, there wasn't anything they could do about reporting it, especially since IT WASN'T AN IN STATE PHONE NUMBER (caller from MA). I am sure the scammers know this, which is why they call from out of state. Trying to pursue this on a federal level. Doesn't seem right thieves and hoodlums can get away with this.

Thanks so much for your information on the websites. Saved me a lot of time.

I encourage everyone to register complaint with the authorities. This is an outrage against mostly defenseless elderly.

Male voice, heavy middle-eastern/Indian accent, claimed to be from Medicare. He had my correct name, address, and phone.  Said he'd be sending me a new Medicare card, which I should carry to my doctor to receive full benefits.  When I asked why I needed a new one, he stated that the old one expires in January. He then wanted my bank info, which I refused, and hung up on him.

Received a phone call this a.m. from 1-617-284-1955 wanting to confirm information for a "new" medicare card that would be sent out to me.  They wanted to verify my name, address and phone number and when the lady asked what bank my checks go to I told her " it was none of her business" and she hung up.  She had a Haitian accent was rather hard to understand her and a lot of noise in the background.  Medicare sends out one card and no new ones are sent out unless you change something about them yourselves.  I reported it to the phone company, the bank and our local sheriff's office.  So sad that people have to try and scam the public to make money.

I received a phone call from this number 617-284-1955.  They did have my name, address and phone number which is scary enough.  They said they were going to send me the new Medicare card and needed to verify my information.  They requested the name of my bank where my social security check was deposited.  I gave them the name of a bank I do not use.  Then, they asked me to get my check book and look at the numbers at the bottom.  They read me the routing number for the bank I said I used for my check deposit.  They asked me if that was correct and I said, yes.  Then, they asked for the next numbers and I made up numbers.  That was fine.  Then they wanted to transfer me to a supervisor.  I hung up.  They called back and were upset that I had hung up.  The supervisor wanted to verify the information I gave to the first person.  I asked who she worked for and where she and the first person I spoke with was located.  She said in Washington.  I asked why they were calling from a Boston telephone number.  She said they were not in Broxton.  They were in Washington.  She asked me to repeat the information I gave to the first person.  I said I would not.  She started to get upset and asked me again to repeat the information - bank numbers.  I said I could not remember what numbers I gave him because I made them up.  She asked again for me to repeat the numbers and I again said I gave fraudulent numbers because I believed they were frauds.  There was a 'click' and they were gone!
