Called my cell moments ago, caller ID stated it as STUDENT AID? WTH?

Started getting a bunch of solicitation calls after I posted an item on Craigslist and responded to a request to see an item and my phone number so they could call me.

Called me twice, yesterday and today. No message and told me to hold when I called back. They said they were a debt collector, but I'm up to date on all my payments. This is a scam!

This is a common ploy by criminals attempting to extort money from people by scaring you into believing that you will be criminally charged, go to jail, lose your driver’s license, have wages garnished, be sued, and a variety of other variations on this,  all for an alleged or nonexistent debt.  They also use the “process server” who calls and claims he is going to serve you, but then says you could avoid it by calling another number.  Now why would a “process server” want to do you, a stranger, a favor, and at the same time not get paid to deliver the papers?

Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt.  It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes.  The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.

did not know number so declined call.  they left voice mail that state press 1 to speak to a live person now.....deleted message and added them to my scam list

Received call from 631-973-4757 caller said it was Gordon and I should call him immediately about my outstanding student loans.  I'm 71 and never went to college.....Big SCAM.....

When I called back it prompted to Press 2 to be added to their "Do Not Call" database.  So I did.  We will see.  No company name given but Caller ID stated "Student Aid"

Called my cell about 10mins while I was at my office; I didn't recognize the number and therefore didn't answer the call.  I later placed the number in my "Junk" contacts folder.

Not a collection call as I have been receiving them too and owe no money anywhere.  Most likely it is a solicitation for money from an organization.

It is definitely a scam.  I also haven't had student loans in 10 years and they keep calling me about my "debt".  They threatened to sue me for the money and I told them to go ahead and send me the paperwork. of course they have no paperwork since they are a sham.

Received a call on my mobile phone from 631-973-4757 on 9/1/2015 at 10:46am EDT. No caller ID displayed. Did not answer and no message was left.

Based on the comments posted it appears that this is another number being used by the "Card Services" scam. I have added the number to my Google Voice block list.
