"Jonathan" from Minto ND called. Offering wireless security system for FREE!  These scams are becoming more frequent...makes one wonder who is actually dumb enough to fall for something like this.

Many calls from this number. I tried calling back and get a busy signal. I'm on the do not call list but I still get these calls several times a day. They never leave a message.

They got to my cell eventually, but it's an Android smartphone and it was easy to find a call blocker that works really well. Once you tag a number as spam, you can set it so your phone doesn't even ring, and whether or not to keep a record of the calls. I like to see them in the list, knowing I never knew about it at the time. I'll eventually turn that off, I suppose, but right now it's great knowing they can't get me! Ha HAH!

Called here - no answer after hello.
Perhaps better this way - it was nothing I would be interested in from the evidence others explained

Got a call from 701-248-1752 this morning. The Caller ID showed "Alarm Co.". No message left which is typical of scam calls. I agree with other people on here who have said it is unwise to even answer the call although it seems worthwhile to give them some of their own medicine. I am afraid this nonsense is here to stay with the way high technology has permeated our society. I don't like it and the government, neither local, federal or state is going to do much about it. I once got a scam call where the caller ID showed my own name and phone number calling me. That was a little weird.

    Solution:  (to all this angst)

From the DCB-10 and DCB Plus web site FAQ:
    49.  Can I block all callers and just invite certain people to ring in?
Yes and you will use Code 97 # * in Programming to block all calls.  Then use the Invite command 50 then the invited caller's number; ex. 602 555 1212, then the * key to store that number.  You can also store whole area codes.  Code 60 is also available for inviting VIP callers using Code 60.  See page 6 or 7 of the DCB Plus Manual.

    My personal comment:
Do it and get your life back, folks.  We haven't heard even one ring from even one scam call for over two years now. And, neither have we ever missed a call from anyone we know during that time.  THIS IS A LIFE SAVER FOR ANYONE OVER 65 YEARS OLD WHO STILL USES A LAND LINE!

And while we are on the subject of scams, did you know that if you are a GA resident you can protect your identity virtually 100% by paying a total of only $9 ($3 to each of the 3 major credit reporting agencies)?  GA law limits the charge for its residents, but anyone who lives in any state can do it for not more than $10 per credit reporting agency.

You DO NOT need to buy their so-called "identity protection" or "credit monitoring" or "get your credit score" products, for which they charge ridiculous monthly fees for essentially doing nothing.

All you have to do is log in to each of the agencies' web sites and initiate a credit security freeze.  You will be charged the appropriate amount on your credit card, and you will be given a PIN that only you will know.  The credit reporting agency is then bound by law to reject ALL credit report requests from anyone, EXCEPT for those creditors with which you have an existing relationship, such as your mortgage company.

    There ARE a few downsides.

First, when you go to their web site, they won't make it easy for you to find the link that takes you to their credit security freeze initiator web page, so you will have to work a little to find it.  Obviously, they would much rather have you buy one of their useless products, than have you pay a one-time small fee for what amounts to the best possible identity protection.

Second, when YOU apply for new credit, you will have to go back to their web site(s), identify yourself as usual, and then use your PIN to temporarily (or permanently, if you wish) remove your credit security freeze.  At that time, you will be charged another fee identical to the one you paid when you initiated the freeze.  One fee covers lifting the freeze one time, and reinstating the freeze one time.  You can lift the freeze for a number of days, a date range, or permanently if you wish.

I rarely need new credit, so I save a few bucks by asking the prospective creditor which agency they use, then unlock just the one they tell me. I also make it clear to them what the access time window is for them to pull my credit report.  Some creditors will pull reports from all 3 agencies, so be aware of that possibility.

Third, if you are a family, you will need to place a freeze for EVERYONE in your family who has a credit record with any or all of the reporting agencies.  This means extra fees, along with keeping up with everyone's PIN(s), but if you are serious (and you should be), then it is well worth it.

Fourth, DON'T LOSE YOUR PIN!  If you do, and you need to unlock your freeze, you will have to jump through a series of red-tape hoops that require a lot of time and energy in order to get your freeze lifted, and all the hoops require extra paperwork.  Ugh.  But, that's a good thing, because even the reporting agency does NOT know your PIN.

Hope this works as well for you as it has worked for us for over 10 years now.  Is this a great country, or what?

agree--do not call list is a total waste of time--robo calls are increasing daily--I just stop answering the phone--sad thing is some even leave voice mails requiring me to waste even more time deleting this garbage.  Our number is non-published, paying for that service, yet the calls just keep coming thanks to "robo calls."  Aaaah, ain't technology wonderful  (lol)

I am being hit by a lot of unknown numbers today.  *ugh*  Add this to the list of currently active annoying calls.  I did not answer, but did run in from the kitchen to see if it was someone I actually knew.  Now, back to my regularly scheduled life...
