Received call from this number, recorded voice reporting that they were with the NCUA and that my debit card had been locked.
"Press 1 to be transferred to security"
sure - transfer me to security - I Press 1
"please enter your 16 digit debit card number"
Okay - I make up a bunch of numbers but it tells me they are not recognized. I finally hang up.

I called the number back and get another recording telling me that I can be removed from their premier marketing service by pressing 1.

I press "1".

Tricky phone scam, I wouldn't be surprised if some poor elderly person gets this call and enters in their personal information. Imagine what these scammers could do if they put their talent to good use instead of this garbage.

First, I love this site, it has really helped me identify legit from thieves.  I thought I typed in the wrong number when I first read the responses, but I didn't, these guys called today and said they would be in my neighborhood (I don't live anywhere near N.Dakota) and with the recent hail storms they want to give me a free 20 minute roof inspection.  Let's see, we didn't get damaging hail here, I just had my roof replaced and told him so.  Went to hang up and heard him still yacking about "well, when was your roof replaced" and so on.  Hung up before I gave him the 'ol we have no previous business relationship, your not political nor charity, I'm on the do not call list, blah, blah.  I worn out on these callers who obviously could care less about the do not call list.  Anyway, how did these guys go from credit card fraud to roofing scams?

There was a recorded message about credit card ... sounds like a scam.

Thanks to search engines, I found this site for 701-509-8703. Claimed to be Bank of America and card "frozen." Just let the message play out and they disconnected. I know BOA doesn't have my cell number on any account information so that was pretty much the tip-off for this scam attempt.

This number is a scam.  I got a call with a electronic recorded voice saying that it was Bank of America, and that my card had been locked.  It asked me to enter my 16 digit card number to reactivate my card.

Went into voice mail.  TOTAL PHISHING SCAM!  Message does not even identify itself as a bank but says "your account has been blocked, please press 1 to unblock...."  Reported this to my bank ASAP.

I just got the same thing tonight and I did the same as you. I hung up and disregarded it. Kinda funny how my Bank of America debit card got deactivated especially since I do not a Bank of America debit card.

Mass random dialing and they hope whoever picks up decides to follow through with instructions

Got a call at 1am. It hung up before I could get it, so I dialed it back. It was a recorded message thanking me for calling back and telling me that if I didn't want to receive their special promotions and be put on their do not call list, to press 1. (I'm on the national do not call list.) I pressed 1 and hung up. It's my cell phone, and I have no idea why they're calling

called at 6PM 08-11-11. Did not answer. They are still out there harassing.

Automated call that stated I needed to update my Bank of America account.  I do not have a Bank of America account

Got the Bank of America call @ 2:12am.  I'm a heavy sleeper, but also familiar with phishing scams, and not a customer of B of A, I didn't happen to hear if they were requesting any input.

I got this call this morning also.  Couldn't really understand what was being said,  so I just hung up.  Thanks for all this information.

I received a call from this. I played along with fake info, and yes, it is a scam. The first thing that exposes this is the fact that it's a recorded/electronic message. Companies are not allowed to call and use this kind of message for anything like this. I decided to call the number back, and a very different voice answered. Here's the transcript:
"Thank you for calling back. if you are not interested in receiving future calls regarding our special promotion[s] and would like to be placed on our "Do Not Call" List, please press 1. Please allow up to 72 hours to have your number removed from our preferred marketing list. Thank you, and have a nice day."
So, a nameless company, the same one I got the scam call from "Wells Fargo" from, has an entirely unrelated automated message for incoming calls.

p.s. I don't even have a Wells Fargo account. This was my first clue.

Have gotten this call twice in two weeks, once at 1:30 a.m. It's a recording claiming to be from Bank of America and my account is blocked for security purposes. I supposed to press 1 to unlock the account. I laughed and hung up. I don't have any accounts with Bank of America. It's just a scam to get people to hand out their account numbers and personal info.

call ID'ed itself as Fraud alert re: Bank of America Debit card. To reactivate asks for FULL credit card number, then expiration, then upon asking for a PIN, I knew this was not BOA and was Phishing scam. Hung up, (1) having given them enough to charge to some merchants CANCELLED card with BOA [they said (a) they will never ask for full card, only last 4 digits and (b) any automated call will give you a # to call back to transact identification], (2) reported Initial Fraud Alert to Experian, who notifies other credit bureaus, (3) Verified with Identity Theft Shield member services that I did everything I could.

After gathering any information I could find (very, very little), I have reported this number and the call to the FTC. I provided much more information than I did in my above post. I recommend others do the same.

Received call on my cell phone from 701-509-8703. It was a recorded message saying there was a problem with my Bank of America credit card. I do not have a BofA credit card I immediately hung up.

Thanks for the tip on AT&T.  I just got the call and hung up. After reading your post I saw that I could block the number with push of a button.  Done!
