Dept collections agency. Tell them you need "signed authorization". They will take you off their list

"signed authorization" What is that? Where did you come up with that and what makes you think they will "take you off their list", especially when there is no list to be taken off of.

These fools just called me and asked if there was an employee by the name of Ronald that worked here? What the hell?

Called my employer today, sketched out due to receiving a letter warning me that my bank account was or is hacked and they have my info. They call it the Equifax hack. . .

Empire called my work today asking for human resources. I was taking down the normal message details and he said he was checking for employment verification for My first name and my first married last name. He then asked whom he had the pleasure of speaking with and I told him my name is Angie. I have recently had my wallet stolen and this was scary.

Called my work. I've only been here 2 weeks. Asked for me by my maiden name which I only use on Facebook. When I answered he said "Is this Jenn _____?" When I confirmed, he hung up.

Hold the tell me why he needed the info when I repeatedly asked and then he hung up on me. Seemed ssketchy to me

Much like Elisabeth, I received a few calls from a very rude and short man, requesting employment verification.  I told him we cannot confirm that without written consent from the person in question, hung up.  Calls back finally today after numerous attempts of this and gets rude, saying he's called again and again, left dozens of messages (never left a single one) and nobody will cooperate with him.  Re-iterate, again, cannot give you that information without written consent.  He asks where to send that, tell him either email or fax, to which he rudely replies "Oh, I get it, because you never answer your freaking phone, right?"  Kept calm, insisted policy is we cannot just give that information, started to repeat the ways to send over the letter and got hung up on.
A perfectly legal verification company/service would have these letters ready and have no problem getting them.  This is someone working under the law, barely so, DO NOT EVER give them your info.  Upon finding out the company, I've been told it could be used by sketchy debt collections practices, loan sharks and even persons willing to pay to find out where you work.  Don't EVER give social, phone, or confirm anything until you get that letter and confirm it's legit.

Male called office for "third party employment verification" for me (i answered the phone) asked for HR staff or manager type.  When no one else was available asked me to verify my birth date and end of my SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER!!!  I refused to release any information whatsoever and said as much.  SCAM SUSPICION!!!

Called to verify employment for someone I've never even heard of. Suspected scam!

Hats off to someone who knows and request signed release form before verifying anything....Privacy laws are there for a reason.

Signed releases are only legally REQUIRED when referencing salaries.

Called employer from over 10 years ago. Had last 4 of social ssn stating they just wanted to verify employment not dates or salaries.

A lady called and asked for me, when I said this is her she hung up. I called the # 1-716-398-4255 back and the voicemail said Empire Verification Services. Could only leave a voicemail and I didn't.
