- Patti| 1 replyThis call comes in on Saturday and Sunday mornings. When I answer or try to call back I hear Comenity Bank ID but they immediately hang up
- Caller: Comenity Bank
- Call type: Debt collector
- Nicole replies to Jacqueline MassadOn my iPhone, I have my family tagged as favorites. Then I enable the Do Not Disturb from the settings. I allow only calls from those in my favorites. Otherwise, I won't ever hear my phone ring or buzz on vibrate if I get a call from these people.
- carol| 5 repliesI have been getting these calls. Want them to stop.
- KamanjahMany calls to my cell phone - only close friends and family have the number. Never leave a message. Seems tied in with 913.312.1013 since both show Comenity Bank as the INDIVIDUAL these numbers belong to. Never heard of them, and I don't owe anyone anything.
- Caller: Comenity Bank
- AndreaReceiving calls no message left. I do not use store credit cards and owe nothing on my major credit cards.
- Caller: Comenity

- REALLY? replies to hilliary| 4 repliesIT's harassment to expect you to pay the bills YOU'VE accrued???? REALLY??? How about if someone borrowed money from YOU so they could go out SHOPPING? For NON-NECESSITIES? Huh? REALLY? It's called SELF-RESPONSIBILITY. You oughta try it sometime. I hope someone really close to you "borrows" YOUR credit sometime so you learn how it feels!
- THANKS to Jewel replies to Lynn| 1 replyThanks to Jewel we know now that it's just Comenity Bank. Check your credit cards.
They're trying to call you before reporting to the credit bureaus that your payment is late.
Usually they're pretty decent people once you DO talk to them (Of course, if your name is PATRICK ON SSI, they are definitely going to be obnoxious simply because PATRICK is an obnoxious, irresponsible jerk expecting the world to GIVE him everything).
If you can't pay, they'll mark your account that you couldn't pay today. Just TRY to promise SOMETHING reasonable for the sake of your own credit. They'll mark the record that way that you are COOPERATIVE and will be much more helpful in trying to arrange payments.
For your own sake, learn from MY mistakes and make enough effort to try to at least cover the interest accruing and pay at least that amount every month. Ask for late payment fees to be reversed (at least once in a while).
Ask if they have any programs for your situation if you've lost your job or have had an unexpected expense. Some companies do, especially now with the economy in the tank for so long.
Try at least. The worst that will happen is they will say "nope". - You do have rights....... replies to carol| 3 repliesYou can ask them to stop calling. If you do it by phone it gives you 30 days of phone-free collection efforts.
You should check out the FAIR DEBT COLLECTION PRACTICES ACT.
This is just a small piece of it...... (((MY NOTES ARE ALL IN PARENTHESIS - - - - these are NOT part of the law... Just from lessons I learned the hard way.... )))
(c) CEASING COMMUNICATION. If a consumer notifies a debt collector in writing that the consumer refuses to pay a debt or that the consumer wishes the debt collector to cease further communication with the consumer, the debt collector shall not communicate further with the consumer with respect to such debt, except --
[1] to advise the consumer that the debt collector's further efforts are being terminated ((( MY NOTE - - - This never happens))); [2] to notify the consumer that the debt collector or creditor may invoke specified remedies which are ordinarily invoked by such debt collector or creditor (((like continuing to contact you by mail))); or [3] where applicable, to notify the consumer that the debt collector or creditor intends to invoke a specified remedy (((MY NOTE AGAIN ---- This usually means taking you to court----They WILL win a lawsuit if you don't show for the court proceeding and MAY garnish your wages, attach a lien on your bank accounts, any property you own, and MAY be able to collect on any money you win or are refunded based on a slew of different factors. THEN you ALSO pay ADDITIONAL COLLECTION COSTS - - - just so you know.....it's a LOT more costly in the long run.... I had a $6000 debt build to $9000 from a car loan I defaulted on and THAT was with me "bargaining" it down from $11000 after the court judgement. The lawyer just wanted to collect while I finally had money)))
If such notice from the consumer is made by mail, notification shall be complete upon receipt... (((You'll likely next get a court summons - - - if they DO take you to court and win, they'll MAIL you a notice of what the court determined and what their actions will be)))
(d) For the purpose of this section, the term "consumer" includes the consumer's spouse, parent (if the consumer is a minor), guardian, executor, or administrator.
It's just a GOOD idea to know your rights.
They are allowed with this act to call you between 8am and 9pm your local time unless you request to only be contacted by mail. Do it by letter and it lasts longer than 30 days.
Good luck. - Automated phone dialers replies to Chelsea| 17 repliesYou've been called by a company using an automated dialing system.
Automated phone dialers that credit companies use suck. There is a wicked lag time between the time you answer and the real PEOPLE getting connected to you.
The phone dialer is a computer system that dials a bazillion numbers a minute and connects to a live person working for the credit company ONLY when a "LIVE ANSWER" is detected. This takes several seconds (sometimes like 15-30 seconds.... what seems to be an eternity of silence) and prompts MOST of us to say "to hell with YOU" and hang up, aggravated that they bothered to call at all.
Many of these systems CAN be set to give you a response or leave a message, but I'm guessing that's an extra feature that costs THEM more money so many don't use it.
I myself wish that these companies would ditch these lousy automatic dialing systems but it's all based on money (big surprise) and the company big wigs generally don't care how the people receiving the calls feel (we're just peons after all).
Anyway, they use these lousy systems and millions of us answer to a stupid recording to "hold for the next operator" or dead silence.
Give ME a LIVE PERSON any day. MUCH more desirable and effective! - Check out Fair Debt Coll Act replies to hilliaryYou should definitely check out the FAIR DEBT COLLECTION PRACTICES ACT to arm yourself with your rights.
Debt collection agencies are GOVERNED BY LAW. They are bound by law to practice FAIR DEBT COLLECTION or be reported for abuse.
There are PRIVATE agencies that get away with horrible behavior and I can't remember why, but MOST debt collectors MUST abide by these laws. - Not clever replies to PatrickThey're not being clever at all. They just have a huge network of phone trunk lines. That's how they handle lots of calls at once.
People at the company don't even know what their caller ID is showing. - BigA replies to You do have rights.......| 2 repliesPlease do not post misinformation. "If you do it by phone it gives you 30 days of phone-free collection efforts." Now by the very law you posted as reference read this: "If a consumer notifies a debt collector in writing " That means the the debtor must notify the DC in writing. Verbal communication is not valid and most DC's will not accept it.
"They WILL win a lawsuit if you don't show for the court proceeding and MAY garnish your wages, attach a lien on your bank accounts, any property you own, and MAY be able to collect on any money you win or are refunded based on a slew of different factors. The lawyer just wanted to collect while I finally had money))) This is only applicable in those states that allow it. Not all states do. Making a blanket statement based on the laws of your state is ill advised.
"(((You'll likely next get a court summons - - - if they DO take you to court and win, they'll MAIL you a notice of what the court determined and what their actions will be)))" Not necessarily, especially in the case of a DC that violates the FDCPA.
"(((You'll likely next get a court summons - - - if they DO take you to court and win, they'll MAIL you a notice of what the court determined and what their actions will be)))" If you go to court, then you will receive a notice most likely right then and there. The court will notify you by mail if they do not render a decision at that time and you will be given the opportunity to appeal that verdict. The DC does not notify you the court does.
"Do it by letter and it lasts longer than 30 days." No it lasts until they validate the debt, validation has to come from the original creditor, not from the records of the DC.

Furthermore, you stated that your debt was for a vehicle which would have been repossessed. in that case, you would have only been responsible for the difference in the amount between what they sold the vehicle for and what the loan amount was for. but again, since different states have different laws, you could post the relevant law here for me to read. - Not legal before 8am or after 9pm replies to tired_of_thisTell them you will report them if they call you before 8am and after 9pm in your time zone. It's illegal.
- Fair Debt Collection Act replies to Jacqueline MassadCheck out the Federal Fair Debt Collections Practices Act.
It's illegal for them to call before 8am and after 9pm in your time zone. It IS LEGAL for them to call on holidays and weekends.
Check your past due bills. It's likely a collector of some sort. - File a complaint to the credit bureau replies to Jeff| 1 replyFile a complaint through all of the credit bureaus. They will be required to show you what they are trying to collect.
Check your payments have ALL PROCESSED. One may have been misapplied to a wrong account or had a problem processing. I talk to people ALL of the time who swear they've paid, only to find that the payment they mailed got lost, the bank didn't process it because of some small error, whatever.
You NEED to check that ALL of the PAYMENTS YOU'VE made have FULLY PROCESSED.
It may well be an error that can easily be fixed.
If it's YOUR error, you will have to tolerate the negative impact on your credit report. If it's the company's error, THEY will need to report the error to the credit bureau and repair your credit record.
By the way, it is legal for them to call you any day of the week, including holidays and Sundays, from 8am to 9pm in your time zone.
Easiest remedy is to check your payment records. - Company has wrong number replies to tl robbIt sounds like someone gave them a fake phone number and it happens to be yours. If you call the company and tell them they have the wrong phone number they will likely ask you if you know who they're trying to contact. You can tell them you don't and to remove your number from their records.
It usually takes less than 2 minutes once you get connected to a real person. - MidNYteStorm replies to REALLY?It's harassment when debt collectors are calling outdated numbers. I for one can testify to this exact thing since I have received calls for people that I never heard of.
