Just got a call from this number, like whack a mole. Get rid of one collection agency, another pops up looking for an Aracely Ford. Sounds like a made name to me. Politely told them wrong number. Till the next one bothers me. At least I got rid of the ones looking for the Marquez brothers.

Always answer these calls but don't say anything. Put them on mute so that someone there will have to answer.  It hurts their morale and bottom line every time someone does that.

This company purports that I owe an alleged debt that I've never had.

I've asked them to cease and desist and they continue to harass me trying continue collecting this alleged debt.
So now I'm cracking them with the TCPA and they'll end up paying for their ignorance.

Just received a phone call today to my cell phone. Rang a couple times then hung up. Can't confirm that it's Portfolio Recovery Services, but I have a few dozen numbers from them going direct to voicemail, so gotta think this their latest. Bottom-feeders. How are they even allowed to stay in business? Thanks again, 800notes.com!

These scum suckers from the ocean floor calling going after debt that was discarged in the 90's.
Total scum dirt bags that nobody will do anything about.    Ignore them, they don't have a case even if you had a debt because in most cases it has been discharged or time has expired to collect.  BUT NEVER tell them the debt is your, this restarts the clock and these C*&Ksuckers will stop at nothing

    REVOLUTION IS THE ONLY SOLUTION

Thank you for these numbers. These are going into my blocked number app on my phone. These folks have already been told to cease and assist on calling. For everyone dealing with this. They want your information but you ask them to send out written documentation on the debt they are trying to collect on they tell you they can't. DO NOT GIVE THEM ANY INFO!

I finally answered one of these things because I was expecting a call from Tennessee anyway. Looking for a "Jaquelline" and there is not now nor has been since I got the number in '91 or so-- anybody here by the name of "Jaquelline".

The caller disconnected. The past history of this outfit being what it is, ten gets you one that I hear from them again-- at a different number-- before a month from today.

There has got to be new laws in place for this type of harassment. I don't even know where to begin. My credit is perfect. I made mistakes 14 years ago but they still harass you but you are not held to your old lifestyle. They never let it go and having to block every new number they come up with is a waste of time in your day. Can someone please implement some real laws that scare companies like this so people can be protected? It's just wrong. I'm not dumb enough to be bullied by anyone and I won't be by these people but at the same time, not everyone has that strength and people are being taken advantage of every single day by these losers. Our society is seriously flawed and so is our system. No protection for people anymore. These people called and did not leave a message.

I missed the call and no message. It is my own personal policy not to answer calls from a number I don't recognize so before returning the call, I opted to google the number and found this informative thread. Thanks a bunch for all the comments!! That number is now blocked.

Well what can I tell you. These guys are genuine bottom feeders of debt collection industry. They buy old statute expired debt and through harassment tactics try to collect 10 to 30 cents on the dollar. Of course the minute anything is collected, the statute date resets to day 1 and their other outfits and ambulance chasers come after you. If you have noticed their letter of settlement is only for the debt with them, not original debtor or the next place they sell it to. The only way to fight these guys is to get with your state authorities. These guys know all the Federal loopholes.

Just got a call from this # on my cell phone while at work, stated that it was so & so from Portfolio Recovery calling about an old debt thru Onyx, a loan company we never done business with.  Husband did a voluntary surrender on a vehicle back years ago but it wasn't thru Onyx and I told her so.  "so you know about this debt," Yes, I do. "Well, that makes you liable also since you are married" Strange, as I'm not the one who made the debt nor did I sign anything at the time the vehicle was bought.
Yes, they are SCUMBAGS.  Had gotten to where we did not answer landline at home when they call, they are persistent and won't take no for an answer.  Will put them with a special ringtone so that I won't make that mistake again or block the # if possible. Do not know how they got my cell # as I don't give it to just anyone.

Wanda, It is called a "Cease and Desist".   You can't just tell them because they will ignore you because you can't prove that you told them..  You must send them a Signature requested,  Certified Letter via USPS,   so they have to sign for it.  PRA is pretty sneaky in that they will hand off  your alleged debt to an associate of theirs,  i.e.  NCS  or some other sleaze bag.  When you send the cease and desist notice,  be sure to include not only PRA but state that it applies to any and all associated companies who act on intended behalf of PRA,  and  all subsidiaries or affiliates.
Should they call you after signing for the Certified C&D,  you and any decent attorney can go after them.

Jacob,  you are correct on how they do things.  I see that some one put a thumbs down red mark beside you post.   Since Portfolio Recover [***]  advertise on and read this board,   I wonder who put it there   :}  ?????????????
Here is the deal.  When they first call,  demand complete validation of the ORIGINAL debt as last held by the original owner.
Demand a copy of any contract that may have been signed by you,  with the original owner.  Demand a record of any and all activity including payments as last held by the original owner of the debt.  Demand the date of the last and final payment or any other action taken on the account.  This is where they will make false claims about mailing you letters and even placing bogus entries with the credit bureaus.  Since they must respond within 5 business days,  they will try to fake you out by sending you what is nothing more than their invoice and but nothing that validates the original debt with the original owner.  This is not acceptable validation of the debt in court.  Advise them via certified mail of this.  Go on line and google  " FDCPA"   Read about your rights as well as the collectors.   Lastly,  you have 30 days to send them a Certified with signature requested letter disputing the alleged debt and disputing their claim.  Once you have followed the rules of engagement with those maggots,   they must play the game on the up and up.    If you don't owe the debt,   or it is out of statute of limitations advise them of this in your dispute letter.   If it is beyond the Statute of Limitations in your state,   advise them of this and your intent to regard and defend it as such,   should a need arise.   Keep an eye on the local newspaper in case they try to sneak a civil suit past you and keep an eye out for a 1099 with the IRS.    Grow some hair,   one eyebrow and fangs.   Time to fight back.

Thanks everyone!  Thought this was that scum - luv it when they try to collect on an account closed in bankruptcy over 10 years prior.  This is now the 12th or 13th different phone number I have on file for them -- everything from local to 800s area codes. Appreciate your posts.
