- JImThe best way to stop them is to tell them this ; '' Before you begin I am required by law
to inform you that ALL calls to this number will and are being recorded ''. '' if you do not want
your call recorded , You are advised to hang up or you will be recorded. '' ''And if you call
back to this number again , your call will be automatically recorded.'' ''you have been notified''.
Try that. It has always worked well for me in the past. They DO NOT want you to record them.
Once you tell them they are being recorded , they hang up. If they don't , keep reminding them
you are recording the call. Believe me , they do not want you to do that. They think it is alright
to record you , But , they do not want it done to them.- Caller: Portfolio Recovery

- RobWell for those who are not familiar with portfolio Recovery debt collection, let me lay out what they do. These guys buy leads wholesale and don't care much whether the debt is current, statute bared or even paid off. Their tactics are shall we say in the grey area of the law. So as you might have figured out by now they know all the Federal loopholes. So if you don't want to hide from them and give them as good as they give, your best bet is your state attorney's office. By the way, settling with these guys for a discounted payment is not going to help you any, their letter of settlement is for their debt only. That will not affect the original debt holder, not the one that they will sell your information to – yup, they'll sell it as soon as they finish getting paid.

- Alice| 1 replyI don't answer numbers I don't know.. I blocked this number
- Call type: Debt collector
- Milton Miteybad replies to AliceI also never answer if a number (instead of a name) comes up on the Caller ID. They can leave a message, which they never do. I check this site to see if it's another one of PRA's numbers (it usually is) and then I add that number to an existing contact in my iPhone: "Ignore This Call." Whenever they call again from the same number, the Caller ID shows "Ignore This Call" and the ringtone used is one of those low frequency tones that most people over 30 can't hear.
- Laurie replies to Paula WilsonThank you for those numbers. Another half dozen were blocked from this list.
- Hate Portfolio RecoveryI literally have hundreds of numbers for Portfolio blocked on my phone, they've been calling this number for years. I know it's nothing for me, my credit is spotless.

- WILLIAM| 1 replyYou can block the number, but all that does is prevent them calling back at the same number. PORTFOLIO RECOVERY HAS THOUSANDS OF NUMBER AVAILABLE! As fast as you block one, they will call the next day from another. I personally have dozens of numbers blocked from these scumbags trying to collect outdated debt. They will never give up. It costs nothing for their autodialer to call to harass you.

- tired of the scum bags replies to Big DYes them and about 10 other such bottom feeders as Portfolio and some scum bag in Atlanta as well. I tried to explain Georgia has a 7 year Statute of Limitation and they don't want to hear it. They threaten court action and I said here is my lawyers name and number.. they hung up after that. They don't want to deal with attorneys either.
- Jane DoeI just got a second call from them. I have a nickname, so when someone calls and asks for my real name, I just state that "She's not here, can I take a message. These people never leave one, stating that they will call back later. Well, they will just get the same response, as I have no idea who these people are, and there is no way, I will accept a call that is already being recorded.
