I answered and played their game, got some information:  ACCOUNT RECOVERY, INC, a debt collection agency which buys old debts and attempts to collect through harassment, intimidation and never stopping calls.    Block their number through your carrier, also uses the number 757-506-0177 / 0176 / 0175.

Federal Trade Comission.  A government agency that protects citizens from harassment.

These phone calls are from Portfolio Recovery, a fraudulent debt collector.

They will harass you, untill you report them.  They collect false debt in order to lure people into a scam.  Don't give them any information.

A legitimate debt collector will have all your information already and comply with the government regulations for phone calls.

These people keep calling me multiple times.   Each time they ask for a different penrson, all of them with spanish names I can't even pronounce.   I have already told them countless time my name is Kevin and I am 12 yo.  They refuse to stop calling.  I have already reported them with my phone company for harassing a minor.   I think it is one of my friends calling as a prank.  As I have not given my number to anyone.

Just got a call from this Portfolio Recovery place and I think they claimed I owed some "Oak tree" debt. I have no idea what he was saying. I just know that he's not supposed to be calling my cell phone, so when I figured out it had nothing to do with anything important, I hung up. I'm glad to read here the steps I can take should further harassment occur.

Dude, they only have 7 years to collect a debt & if it's on your credit report, it needs to come off.  It can only be on there for 7 years on a debt like that.
Tell them that & I might even record the call and tell them you are going to file harassment.

This is a scam debt collector.


I am 14 years old and have never had a debt in my life (no credit either).   I don't understand what these guys want, they keep harrassing me.  I told them I am a minor and gave them my SS # as evidence.  They said they don't care and kept calling me multiple times a day even at school time and late at night.

I contacted my local Children Ondbusperson (In puerto rico: Procurador del menor).  And gave them all the information.  The calls stopped not long after this.

In sumarry: Scam site, DO NOT GIVE THEM ANY INFORMATION.

PRA had been calling an ailing relative of mine for TWO years--until his/her spouse got on the line and told them he/she was dying and hung up on them. They never called again.

They get your phone numbers and your employer from your credit report.

Portfolio Recovery, a fraudulent debt collector.

They have called my number about 10 times each time asking for a different person.  Sometimes in English others in Spanish which I can't understand.

I investigated and the way they work is this:  They pull credit reports and if you ever had a bank account, cell phone account or credit card they will call your number (regardless if you actually have a debt or not).   and claim you actually own them money.   They will ask for your personal information SS#, bank account and cc #.

DO NOT GIVE THEM ANY INFORMATION.  
Legitimate debt collectors will:

1. Already have your information
2. Collect and actual debt that exists, not fake ones.
3. Obey the law and only call on work hours.

Don't fall for this scam,  the US government entitles you to a free credit report each year to confirm you don't have any debt.

If the debt wasn't yours to begin with then how did you get a judgement against you?  You need a better lawyer!

This number keeps calling me .. I want it stopped!!! on the no call list

I didnt answer but looked the number up and found this page.  I only have a cel phone, its a droid nd i just added the number to my firewall app. From now on it wont even ring, just get dumped directly to voice mail

I just checked my phone log for the last month and have multiple numbers from this area code

If you have a droid or a iphone download a firewall app and you can have it screen out entire area codes if you want, which is what i did with 757

calls never leave messages . I CALLED  NUMBER  TO  ASK WHO ARE YOU SHE ASK MY NAME AND REFUSED TO GIVE IT TO HER  BECAUSE SHE CALLED SO SHE HAD THE NUMBER .I TOLD HER THAT I ONLY HAVE THIS NUMBER FOR ONLY 4 MONTHS PLEASE DO NOT CALL ANYMORE.SHE HUNG UP BUT THEY STILL CALL. I DO NOT ANSWER.

Portfolio Recovery, a debt collector, called in regards to my old Capital One Credit Card debt from years ago.

Keep getting 'repeat' calls from 757-506-0177 to my 'pre-paid' cell phone.

Harassing phone calls. I work nights and this number is constantly calling me.
