To let you know, when a major creditor cannot seem to collect a debt, they "sell" the debt to a collection agency.  They then will try for a time.  Usually, if still not collected, they, too, will "sell" the debt to another company.  And so on, and so on.  Since no creditor ever collected or charged it off in the courts, this activity can continue for up to 20 years.  Since the Bush administration changed the bankruptcy and banking laws a few years ago, it never disappears from your credit report as long as one of these companies "sells" your debt to another.  This, again, can continue for up to 20 years since the debt was never "charged off".

The only way to get this to stop... you physically have to tell them "never call me again".  Keep the date and time you instructed them of this, and record the date and time of EVERY further call.  Only then can you file harrassment under the "Fair Credit Collections Act".  Until you PHYSICALLY SAY THESE WORDS, it's legal for them to continue calling, and they can legally call 100 times a week.  Only when you ANSWER any of the calls does the act come into play. Once you answer, they're only allowed ONE call for every seven calender days.

I rotate how I respond after each call.
1. I tell them I'm the brother and that the person they are looking for went to Iraq.
2. I give the phone to my little girl so she can tell them about our last trip to Sea World.
3. I tell them that I am a COP and that the person they are looking for is dead on the floor.
4. Tell them he defected to Mexico to avoid going to jail for murder.
5. Tell them he left two days ago as he rumbled something about getting his guns cleaned because he was going to Virginia to cap some ones azz, I think he said PRA?

The number 757-961-3545 has called out home number 4 days in a row last week and several times before that. We have never answered the phone when we saw this number.   I looked up the number and do not know who Portfolio Recovery is or what they want.  We have checked our credit reports and there are no outstanding depts charged off or otherwise.  I called them back but got a recording.  Don't know if I should contact them or just block their number???

I must owe money to everyone in the U.S. because I keep getting calls from these collection agencies. I wonder how that can be since I have a 760 credit rating. I am unlucky enough to live in a town where there is another man with the same name as I have.

I never answer these buffoon's calls, so I really don't know what or how much the want to collect. I have a lot of these numbers I will refer them to the National Do Not Call people.

these people (?????) are calling people who have NEVER had any kind of debt(me), so they are most likely a front for something else.  how is it they keep finding numbers on the no-call list and continue to violate the law? when unknown name is listed is caller id, that tells you something right there.

Also has been advised they are calling a business number and personal calls are not allowed. They have been reported to Attorney General of the State and BBB for not following Federal Law on attempted debt collection

You better watch these SOB's or they will file a 1099c on you and turn it over to the IRS saying you haven payed the taxes on it.It will be for the amount they say you owe,yes I know it's not legal but in this case it's the crooks helping the crooks

OK. I ADMIT IT. These people really intimidate me, with threats of jail, sheriff's sales, judgments, liens(I don't own a home).  I filed bankruptcy where I had to pay everyone 100%of the debt, without accruing any other fees, but had to come out of the bankruptcy when I lost my job and could no longer make payments. Now the calls have started again, and I'm back to worrying each and every day and dreading every phone call.
Any suggestions from anyone?

I get several phone calls a day from these people with no MSG it's pretty annoying because they call me cell!!!

These people call us several times a day.  We have answered the call a couple of times and we have told them not to call us again.  They are very rude and claim that we owe money on a Visa card even though I have never owned a Visa Card.  This is a scam company.
