- meyer replies to ChrisYou say when you call, that's how it all get's started, how so? they try to sell you something? I for one NEVER give personal info to anyone, especially anything to do with bank, checking, credit card,ss#, et cetera.
- Brett replies to ChrisI received the same letter today to contact Frank Roberts, called and they want you to deposit the check in your bank then call them back once that has happened. It has something to do with, once you deposit the check they might be able to get bank info off of the return info. Be very careful, this is an odd one. My check was for 4800 as well.
- SHANNONYeah I got a check in the mail today for $3450.00 but I had one a lump sum of money....the name of the company was Merrill Lynch....when u call the number back is it 778-896-6800 I get an Asian person answering the phones....I have never met an Asian guy in my life name Steve Otis...and he was very adamant for me to deposit the check ....our check had Lynwood Washington on it....and the correct way for Lynwood Washington is spelled with 2 n's not one...the check came from Pacific International....they spelled that wrong too.....when u type in the address that the check came from it shows a fish market.....this is a hoax and I think a scam so if anyone gets a check from this company needs to report it.....

Confrimed this is a scam. Everybody please be very careful. - Bluefox5bI received several calls from this number, but told the people it was a scam and hung up. On 4/20, 2010 I received a letter with a check for $4800, which I am shredding. This is terrible in times like this and something should be done.

- PennyYeah, I got this same letter stating that I'd won second prize in the amount of 485,000.00 with a check to cover taxes in the amount of 4 thousand eight hundred and 00/00 . . . . My instincts told me that this is simply one of the newer scams that some con man has cooked up. But where is the hook? The one that pays off for the con man. Needless to say I did not cash the check, but my mother got a mysterious call from a man who said he has been trying for 15 days to get ahold of me, in order to deliver the second prize (a package) I'd won. My mother gave no information, nor did he ask for any. Strange. He did however, give her a phone no, 202-821-4256 at that time he told her this was the number of a Phillip Brown. She did call the number, but no one answered, it just rang and rang. And yes, the original contact information is for a Bob Stevens.

- VMThis is a scam that is going around the United States that is coming out of Canada. A subject will send you a letter in the mail stating you have won a prize and you will get a check for a certain amount of money that they consider covering the cost of taxes for the prize money you have won. When you contact the phone number listed in the letter the subject tells you to deposit the check into your checking account and then withdraw it. Once you have done that the subject will then instruct you to send the money via Western Union or MoneyGram. There is only a certain amount of money that is allowed to be sent out of the country so the subject will divide the amount between two people. Once you send the money via Western Union or Moneygram the subject will request the access code from you. Once you give the subject the access code that person can retrieve the money you transferred from any Western Union or MoneyGram location. The subject might say that he is in Washington and wants the money sent there, but when the access code gets traced after the subject picks up the money, you find out the person retrieved the money from a different location out of the country. This "prize money" you were promised doesn't exist and because you deposited the check into your banking account and then withdrew the money you basically become the victim. Once the bank clears the check you deposited and realizes it is fake the blame falls back on you and your bank comes after you for the amount you withdrew. So in the end you become the victim. The best thing to do is make sure the word gets out about this scam and if you do receive something like this in the mail, contact your local police department and report it to them. Right now the elderly are being hit hard with this scam. Please spread the word to all.
- mister D replies to Allen Standleysame type check $4800 Bob Steven
- not Michael replies to MyraShred the letter and check.
Its a scam. If you cash the check it will bounce and you'll get hit with all sorts of bad check fees. And if you pay them taxes like they ask your check will clear before theirs bounces. They will then vanish and you'll be out all that money. - DillonI knew it was a scam so I called the guy and acted like I deposited the check and he said to take the money out and deposit it in to a western union account and he said someone named Gregg and Mary will reciever the money

- Lea replies to Allen Standley| 2 repliesI received the exact same letter dated 4/22/10. I called and spoke with "Bob Stevens" and he said that he activated my check and that I needed to deposit it into my checking account and then call him back. Of course I did not do that. Instead I contacted my local police dept and turned everything over to them. They are doing research on it and are going to call me back to let me know what they find out. I will deep you all updated as to what they say. However, it's obviously a scam. Please let as many people know about this as possible......there are people out there who will fall for this.....we should try to do as much as we can to protect them. Desperate times call for desperate measures. Let's not let them become victims if we can help it. Good luck to you all! And thank you for all your postings!
