Recieved call at 8:12am on cell. Had it on vibrate but didn't answer with it being a strange number.  I learned not to answer strange #'s because of an automated Switch Scam that switches your long distance calling automatically to GLOBAL long distance carrier without permission.  It is set up to Bill you as a third party carrier thru the company you use.  Your company does not challenge whether you changed it or not and can go unnoticed.  I DESPISE being hornswaggled into something I did not choose for myself.  YES! It is illegal.  If caught, call your long distance carrier and report such practice and/or go to the FCC website and follow thru with reporting.  GLOBAL is an International concern which is bent on stealing customers away from their chosen carriers and wants to dominate the world market.  As for the call 8002150948-4393 I found the answer in this site.  Beware also...There are SCAMS going around using the name Microsoft also.  I recieve many scams in E-Mails using Microsoft info.  Check things out on the Microsoft Website first.  Thank You for being concerned consumers.  MomOB

Got a call from 1800 215 0948. Caller left v-mail wiht my fullname and asked me to call back at my earliest convinience.

I did, and it turns out that they got my number from a microsoft webcast that I had downloaded earlier in the week.

No selling, no scam, just follow up questions on the webcast.

I recieved a voicemail, the caller said he was "Joe Catalone" calling on behalf of Microsoft and to call back at my earliest convenience.

MS employees always leave a message as to the nature of the call. I worked at a telecom as an intranet coordinator and had lots of calls from MS employees and reps and extraanus marketing firms associated with Microsoft :).

This is probably a marketing associate of Microsoft with access to some reports from Microsoft marketing databases.

I got the call this morning while sleeping (I'm a night walker)... "Mike" at Microsoft, ext. 4287.

I seem to recall on my many Beta testing registrations that I had to check (or not) 3 sets of 2 boxes: do I allow MS and/or 3rd-party affiliates to contact me via U.S. Mail, EMail, or telephone?

In EVERY instance I left the boxes unchecked ("No") for ALL 3rd-parties AND for MS via telephone. So I have no idea why they would think this is ok...

I have not seen anything from them via EMail (other than the typical crap from the folks at Hotmail) or USPS since I first signed on as a system builder -- they immediately informed me by mail that if not all my system OSs were legit, they would be up my bum with a legal team, lol. The whole purpose of the program is to buy MS Windows etc. direct at reduced pricing.

The Beta3 program for Longhorn Server (for which I also just re-registered to get 60 to 240 days to test the RTM version) expires next month, so maybe they are just following up? It's a good server OS, but still needed polish at the B3 stage, not a great sign... There were major functions either disabled or not yet implemented. I did not get to install or test the release candidates.

They *did* follow up via emails before on my download of VirtualServer (or VirtualPC)... very prompt, informing me at each timepoint just *where* I should now be in my purchasing decision (except, these are now *free* products ?!?)

I just wrote back and told them I hadn't even installed them yet... I'm just a one-person company here; only so much I can do. I downloaded them because their newsletter (TechNet) invited me to, and because my 8Mbps connection and mega-gigabyte hard drives make it a snap these days...

OH -- I also have an email address not entirely conducive to a pristine Microsoft image, heheheh... perhaps they found out and sic'd that legal team on me. ;-)

All you people who have the time to post here are hilarious.  I got a call from this number from a Jeremy Gross.  I asked him about the "on behalf of Microsoft" language.  He explained that they are a partner that Microsoft contracts with to follow up with individuals who have been to events, downloaded trial software, virtual labs, web casts, etc.

All these guys are trying to do is find out more about what you are trying to do and make sure you are connected with the proper Microsoft resources.  If not, then it's their job to try and get those resources back in touch with you.

Same as above, only x4397, someone named Terry Bell(?). He mumbled so bad I wasn't sure.  I called back and got voicemail, told 'em to leave a message about what they want if they were going to play phone tag.

A while ago I downloaded some Virtual PC and Virtual Server 2005 stuff and had to register to get it, it was either that or my participation in the WFP that got them my number.

I don't mind if they call and I would love to have a contact at MS to yell at, but I don't like them wasting my time with phone tag.

Received a voicemail from a guy stating he was with MS. I deleted the message thinking "yeah right." Then I remembered that he referenced my name and he called my work number. I have never given my work number out to anybody, not even my wife has my work number. I'm just a contractor and jump from site to site every 6-12 months. How they got this number is freaky.

Called received on 05-30-2008 from a young man, from Microsoft at number 800-215-0948, ext.___(I won't give this out).  He asked if I was using the latest Microsoft business support software tools - or something to that effect.  He was very nice and polite.  When I attempted to return the call next day (at 9 the next morning) to check it out, it went through just fine to Microsoft. Perhaps it would have been busy later on in the day.

I received a call from Joe Catalone claiming he was "calling on behalf of Microsoft" - As a Microsoft Partner we do get calls from Redmond and Issaquah from time to time; however for the most part the callers identify themselves with what department and my staff knows who to put through and who not to.  I did call the number back and left my private extension thinking it was something important.  Too bad I didn't follow my own advice and check the Net first.  Oh well no worries our phone system allows me to audio screen my calls.  As of this posting no call back, if I do get a call back I will be surprised.

Message left at 1:49 PM CST.  Mike Teller calling on behalf of Microsoft.  Ask to call him back at ext 4287.  Returned call 7:30 AM, answer "Thank you for calling Microsoft", to reach a party by name press 1, to reach an extension press 2.

I called several times putting in different extension #'s.  Ext 4288 answered as Carrie with Sprint Nextell, Ext 4286 answered as John from Whats Wrong.

Obviously a system phone room.  Maybe Microsoft cares but I doubt it.

I have recieved numerious calls from "8002150948xxxx" They have all been from microsoft about beta testing or trial offers (I do these often) What it is, is that Microsoft contracts a call center to make calls to everyone that has downloaded from them to see what they though, so that Microsoft does not have to pay anymore people. This is why they say "on behalf of Mircosoft" I have never actually answered it because I know who it is calling, and ignore it, and never called back. Most of the time they leave a message and talk abotu 100 words a second, but lately they haven't bothered leaving one.

I got a call from "Chris" at 8:30AM.  Good thing this site exists.  Now I know it's about my Office 07 download and not something else.  The only problem is, I kinda, sorta grabbed a pirated version of Office 07 Enterprise online after I downloaded the trial.  Perhaps I better not tell him that.

Got a call from "Andre Banque of Microsoft" (sounded Russian or French) from 1-800-215-0948 X 4297, probably due to the same thing (eval downloads where I stated do not contact and answered all the questions).

Did not pick up and his voicemail did not indicate what he was calling about or what dept he was from at Microsoft. Therefore will not be calling him back.
