- JenThis is Great Lakes. They contacted me because of student loans. Mine are up to date. They don't know why I got a call. This is aggravating.
- Caller: Student Loan Company
- joe replies to dont respondYes, I haven't got my tax returns for the last 2 years. Also, I'm looking into self-employment; there will be no way for them to get into my wages :)

- Sharon replies to SlimI would recommend anyone with a student loan with Great Lakes to set-up use your online account. Avoid telecalls as I have had some that are seeking to act on your behalf (oh I will find you a program! ;) )... for a fee no doubt. Not sure where they are getting their lists or if they are legit. It looks more like fishing to me.
- Rob replies to Tim T.no, they are not legit. my loan is not overdue and they're calling anyway. no one in their right mind should ask for and expect to receive a person's social security number, especially over the phone. the real Great Lakes Loan Provider should make a statement - the public is being misled...trust no one folks.
- Bill D. replies to Tim T.Funny I don't have a student loan and have never had one. Scam.
- AA replies to Tim T.I work with victims of crimes and I can assure you they are not legit. Never give your personal info over the phone. If your student loan is past due then your loan servicing company will contact you through appropriate channels. The person who wrote the post I am replying to most likely is part of the scam or very naive.
- B replies to So| 1 replyWww.Ed.Gov......Government website.....Lists great lakes as one on the many collection companies. But i guess government sites are scams too
- Racheal replies to BI don't care if they are listed as one the 7 great wonders of the world. They have been calling me for months, trying to collect on a student loan. Guess what? I don't have any student loans, never did, never will. Paid my way through college by working. So why are you here? Are they calling you? Did you forget to pay your student loan? Or are you just here because someone stood up to you when you tried to steal money from them? Maybe they mentioned that you are a scam and they saw it on this site? You are nothing but the lowest form of germ there is. How can you live with yourself stealing money? I doubt you even know who your mother is, but if you do, I am sure she is so proud that she raised a thief. Go crawl back under your rock and stop calling me!
- JackI wouldn't trust the call. Some of you may have genuine contact with Great Lakes, and that's great, but some of us have been called with SPOOFED ID's and numbers. And, I KNOW because I do NOT have ANY loans with them. I would ask them for what account this is referring to. WHEN IN DOUBT, CHECK IT OUT! You might get away with something 999 times, but that 1000th time is going to bite you in the ass! Then the other 999 times you were ok and nothing happened, WILL MEAN NOTHING!
- Caller: GL EDUCATION
- Tiffany H.I had a missed call from them today and didn't recognize the number. I do in fact have a federal student loan and they are the company I have been dealing with and paying the last 3 years. Seems I forgot to update my credit card information so the auto pay didn't go through! Eeeeek!

Clearly lists this number as their contact number. It is legit and all you people screaming scam need to calm down and learn to use google.- Caller: Great Lakes
- Call type: Non-profit organization
- JoeyDee replies to Tiffany H.No, Tiffany. You need to get smart and learn to read prior posts better. It's clear several people who have gotten calls from this number have no dealings with Great Lakes. Those are obviously scam, phishing calls. You might also enlighten yourself on how caller ID information can easily be faked. So yes, the number might be Great Lakes's number, but the caller is NOT calling from Great Lakes, but instead is using a fake ID to fool people. That's why you should never give out any information to anyone who calls you: if necessary, find the legitimate phone number (which in this case happens to be the same, and call it back rather than engaging with a cold caller, who is likely to be a crook somewhere overseas.
- KP replies to Tim T.It cannot be legit because I graduated from college in 1996. It is now 2017 and my loans are long paid off. I owe absolutely nothing to Great Lakes and have not for a number of years.
- KP replies to MeThere is no way they can be legit because I have no student loans and there would be no reason for them to call. If they were legit, they would know that right.

- JadenWarning: this is a fraud company, pretending to be a great lakes educational loan center. They'll put you on hold asking for your name and social security number. I already filed complaints with law enforcement, the bbb, the internet fraud agencies and the department of justice. This is the eighth time i received this annoying call.
- Caller: GREAT LAKES EDUCATIONAL LOAN CENTER

- Kay replies to DavidWhile the number may seem to belong to great lakes, that doesnt mean these are legit agents representing them. I have Sprint cell phone services and i get calls that my caller id shows sprints customer service number but it is not sprint. There is such a thing as spoofing numbers so it appears legit. I have even got phishing calls that showed up as "Sprint" on my caller id with the same number on my bills but it was nit sprint. Things like that happens, however there is a good chance these people that claim thry have no loans, that their number used to belong to someone who is late or defaulted on their loans. Or maybe a typo on the application.
