- Don in DCHave called twice in two days. Do not leave a message, so i assume it is not that important to them.
- Caller: Great Lakes
- Not ImportantSomeone is spoofing the Great Lakes number, got a call with a voicemail of someone in a car, can hear turning signal and GPS then it ends. Great Lakes leaves a VM when the real company calls stating the reason they called you. If you want to call the actual company dial it yourself, do not use the spoof version to callback.
- Caller: Spoofer
- LJI have a student loan through Great Lakes. I’ve never missed a payment. All my paperwork is in on time. ALL federal student loans are in administrative forebearance. They have absolutely no reason to call me at all.
In fact, I contacted them a couple months ago to verify that everything was set for when COVID relief stopped. So nothing about them calling me smells legitimate. People need to stop assuming that if you get a call you’re some deadbeat. I’ve already paid off my other student loan.- Caller: Great Lakes
- LJ replies to BigAIt’s not legit. It’s a spoofed number. As someone who is on top of their loans, there is no reason for them to call. Also Great Lakes sends email to the point that it’s annoying . My loans are 100% current and I have my preference set to email only. They wouldn’t call me but if they did? They’d leave a message
- DannieThey called to remind me that after 1/31/2022 payments for my student loan will be due again and to all them if I needed further assistance. It's an automated message.
- Bernice replies to Tim T.They just called me and i don't have a loan with them and never did, and don't intend to (I am 60 years). I think i just had a scam call.
- MeThis is a "legit" call (I guess you can say that!). Great Lakes is, it seems, a contractor with the US Dept of Education. They are calling about student loans. I figure they took a big hit during the Pandemic when the Feds put all student loan paybacks & interest on hold. They have been calling every few months reminding us that although we don't *have* to make payments we *can* (if we want). Yeah, OK, thanks! Now that the moratorium is ending on JAN 31 it will be time to start paying up again.
- Caller: Great Lakes
- Call type: Debt collector
- Josie replies to torankusu| 1 replyMygreatlakes.org is legit. It's for your student loans. Once you get your loans they are assigned to a company to maintain your acct. My son has student loans and they are assigned to his account. We pay every month. Have never had an issue with them. They do randomly call for no reason whatsoever but aside from that they are good. Then again we have never not paid. Even when he was in school and didn't have to make payments, we did.
- Tygerkat replies to JosieDo you often look up known phone numbers when there's no logical reason to do so? And have you somehow never heard of phone number spoofing?

- T replies to Tim T.I don't have a student loan nor a student and they have called me twice so far. I have blocked them.
- Toni replies to BigA| 1 replyAll of my outstanding student loans debt were forgiven with Nelnet so I don’t understand why these type of loan payment businesses are still trying to reach me! How do I stop the calls. All my student loan balances are zero on my credit report so I am confused as to why I keep getting these type of calls?!
- BigA replies to ToniI don't know what they want. The only way for you to determine that would be to talk to them. If they are trying to collect a debt then you can send them a certified, return receipt cease and desist communications letter. Of course if you actually do owe money then they will find other means to get paid.

- Anna MarieI received a Call from this number yesterday
I felt the guy was pushing and rude
He asked for me by name he said he was from Great Lakes
He then asked for verification purposes for my date of birth
I was at work I gave it then he asked for my whole social I didn’t feel comfortable so I told him and gave him the last four,
He said NO! You need to provide the full number I said I don’t feel comfortable doing that
He said fine when you call back something something but he was mumbling.
I do all servicing of my account online, I also don’t feel giving my full social security number is needed
it felt scammy even if is not
