Saying they are from the State of Colorado now too. Irritating!!

Caller said that they were from the NJ State Business Development Office. Asked me "iffin yous picked your new location or not". I said that I was sorry that I could not help her, thanked her for her time and hung up. Damn if the line didn't ring again not 10 seconds later, with her reaming me out for hanging up on a state employee LOL Like I'm really falling for that line of bull :p

Got a call this a.m. from 'The Economic Development Office'. Sounded suspicious, so I asked which Economic Development office, she stated for Montreal. I switched to French as this is the official language for Quebec. She did not speak French.

Dumped the call...

Wow, are they really that stupid to be calling into a French province from an English only Call Center?

They are calling because someone put your phone number on a form requesting rates for moving companies. I played along with the caller and was able to learn that her company purchases lists of 'dead' leads for moving van services (and others).  
Yes, I did fill out one of those forms (three years ago) to get local quotes to move all my stuff.  

I can't imagine they get many sales from these old leads. The girl that called me just barely spoke English. She claimed to be from the Texas Business Development Council. When I asked her what that meant she just froze up and stuttered in Spanish. It really is an ultra bizarre approach to troll for household pack & move services.

UGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  We have got 2 calls from them and these people are RIDICULOUS! She said they were from the California state economic department and that they needed to verify if we were staying in our building or moving.  When I asked why she needed this information she got EXTREMELY short with me and repeated that she was from the state over and over again.  She asked to speak to my office manager and when I handed my office manager the phone and my office manager told her the same things I was saying the lady on the phone said "I know it's you Jillian".  The office manager then proceeded to tell her that she was NOT JILLIAN and she was extremely busy and we were not moving from our location.  She said again that the office manager was lying and then hung up.  SCAM!

Yeah.  They are calling into Illinois too.  They still hang up if you ask too many questions or point out how little logic there is in their request for info.
Claimed to be the "Illinois Business Development Dept." & another time referred to the "Economic Office"

I get this number calling about twice a month. Same deal although this time they said they were from my town. That did not fly as the person had such a bad accent plus I actually recognized the number and knew their scam. Called her a scammer and she got pissed and started swearing at me in her bad english. I hung up on her and she called back about 12 times, I ignored her and she finely got tired and is not calling one of you guys.

There's little we can do.  The same woman (i recognize her voice now) has called here once a month for the last year and a half, and i hang up on her every time.  They call from at least 3 different numbers, each with relatively the same bogus speech!

-"Ontario chamber of commerce" (which actually exists, and *they* told me it's a scam)
-"Ontario business development office"

Obviously, these people are uneducated or total morons as I got TWO calls from the same number today, an hour apart, by 2 different people (the first lady who called is the one who calls every month).  The numbers they call from with the exception of (maybe) the 1-800 cannot be blocked.

I'm at the point now where I let them say half their opening sentence and I simply hang up on them, as I've tried asking to taken off the list (which I cannot, because as soon as I get "please take us off..." they hang up on me before I get a chance to finish), I've tried getting mad (same thing, they hang up), and they are relentless in phoning.

I fear unless a government (be it Canada or the USA... but I doubt either one cares enough to try) steps in and takes action, that we are restricted to posting on these websites.

Maybe if we all just hang on them without saying a word, they will eventually stop.

This caller identified herself from the Business Development Center and wondered if we had found a place to move yet. I informed her that I had not been looking for a place to move, she hung up.

This number called and like most of the reports on here a woman with a thick accent said it was the Business Development Office but this time for the State of New Jersey and asked if we found a new location.

Obviously a Scam and really annoying!

Received a call claiming to be from State of Illinois and asked if we were still planning to relocate... Caller who spoke with a foreign accent was as dumb as a box of rocks.

They called saying they are respresting the state of Illinois and ask if I moved yet.   Been getting this same calls for over four years.

Call claiming to be The State of California Business Development Office. When I asked her about all the posts about this being a scam, she hung up.

I just received 2 phone calls from this 800 247 4047.  She identified herself (thick accent) as being from the Business Development Office and she was asking if we were still looking for a place to move.  I asked her who she got the information from and she said "Sam", I said "Sam who?" and she hung up.  I

I then came online and found this website with comments, and she then called again.  I told her unless she gave me a real phone number and business name I was not going to give her any info, at least a website.  She said, "www..." and hung up.

BIG waste of time so I'm noting the number for future reference.  

And thanks to the poster who said block "third party billing on your phone", that sounds like a good idea.

Got the same call from the "Economic Development Office of Minnesota." Number that showed up on caller ID was 888-000-5555. I don't understand what possible use they could make of any information that they get.

Does anyone know exactly what they are trying to get us to say?  Something to make it sound like we want to buy some kind of moving-related service?

I try to avoid actually stating our address or other information ("our address has not changed" or "that is our address") or saying "yes" so they can't cut&paste.  But we actually did move, and we have real clients who are buffoons and still don't have our current address, so when someone calls and asks if we moved I can't just hang up (especially if they are sending us money).

These people have called our office several times in the past. Mary called today and when I told her that I have done some research on the internet and this was a scam. I advised her not to call our office again and I hung up. She called FOUR more times. I wish someone would do something about these jerks.

We received a call from 1-800-249-2782 and asked if we are planning to move or stay in our office. The caller identify herself calling from Ontario Economic Development Office. I asked if it is NGO or The Government of Ontario and her response was from the Government of Ontario. I told her lease issue is between the landlord and the corporation and it is none of the government's business and asked why she is calling and where is her office located-she hung up! We called our business phone line provider to register a complaint of the call and to avoid if any charges are being added to our phone bill for "service" they may claim they provide, as per the Attorney General of Oregon's alert of April, 2011 about the same phone number calling business!

Just got the same call ie  are you still planning on moving? Stupidly, said 'no'. Same as others, I asked who they were and when I pressed they hung up. My guess is it's a list company 'verifying' that a business exists (they don't care if you move or not), then they will 'sell' it to other telemarketers with this 'verified' list. hope I'm wrong, because then we'll be in for a slew of unwanted calls.

Wish I had just hung up :-(

If anyone knows the origin of these calls please let me know. I suspect it's the same place I get area code 210 calls from...

The woman called saying she is calling from the state of NJ Business Bureau. I asked why she wanted to know if we were moving. She said they are conducting a survey for the state. I said it makes no sense and that there is not need for the state for such information as on moving every business files the change form with the correct authorities.
She continues with some bull crap for 3-4 mins and then asks to talk to someone else in my business. I told her to send me an email requesting the information. She told me that if you are a legitimate business you would give me this information. The she got all snippy and told me that I will regret it and that my business will be listed as and illegitimate business and they will shut me down in 5 days! When I had asked moved from where to where she had not idea of anything.
I think if you made inquiries about office space with any company maybe they have someone on it. When I call the number back its been disconnected. Stupid con artists.
