Don’t talk to those callers!  You can call USAA at THEIR number and talk to them about your debt. It won’t worsen your situation, definitely  could help.

I received a voicemail from 800-264-9324. The caller ID said “USAA”.  Visual voicemail transcribed the message: “Hello this is Martin Megan calling from USAA please contact me at four any representative at 800-264-9324…”.

The caller’s voice was a high quality recording not a real person.  Sounded like a voiceover actor whose sounds were processed in an audio lab to strip out irregularities, whatever.

Of course I called back!  The call was answered by robot as is normal, but within a few seconds  it went silent, so I hung up.  I called USAA on their  authentic number.

NOW I remember the advice:  Call the institution on their real number.  Don’t trust the voice who calls you unless they use 2-step authentication!

But it was SUCH a waste of time and spiritual-emotional energy when I called the true USAA at 1 (800) 531-8722.  On the plus side they did use 2-factor authentication, but I had to tangle with the AWFUL robot that insists you pick from options that do not pertain to your purpose.  I was feeling increasingly huffy because THEY called ME and now I was blocked from reaching them. In fact I got extremely irritated (robots, grrrrrr).
Finally I chose one of the robot’s offerings — the Investment Dept, though I have no investments at USAA.  I just wanted a human being!  Such a nice man did what he could to help with my weird problem.  He transferred me to an equally nice young woman.
But while holding for her I was played an on-hold recording: “This is an attempt to collect a debt… blablabla). Wow!  Now I  was  smoking’ mad, truly indignant.  Careful to avoid causing the nice young woman to think I thought SHE was at fault, nevertheless I let her know how this whole sequence was running to the end if my patience.  She went over my account agreed there’s no sign of debt.
She tried to put me through to the debt collector team but they were closed for the day. So I dictated a really hot message saying they should call me tomorrow.  I said, be sure and write, the customer is IRATE!
She and I sincerely wished each other well, and I put “Martin’s” number into the search window
I’m GRATEFUL to discover this community of people who “Martin” tried to scam.  Tomorrow I’ll tell all to good’ol USAA.  So glad they haven’t turned into incompetent jerks
What a WASTE it is to get angry and huffy. It’s totally necessary to track down malefactors and to defend against exploiters but SO IMPORTANT to stay cool and be slow to place blame until the facts are known.

Thanks to all who have shared their experiences here!

Received an automated voicemail from this number and a guy named Martin. I called the main USAA number, not the one he provided and checked all my accounts and there is no reason for the call. Will not be calling Martin back.

I just verified, with USAA Fraud Dept.  This is a SCAM, to get your member or social security number.  USAA will never "ask" us for this information, because when you call their numbers, you have to enter the information.

A call came in saying it was USAA and using the USAA 800 number, but giving me a entirely different 800 number to call back on.  Phone numbers are being high jacked for making these scam calls.  I am getting too many to count.  When I call the number back usually the person tells me they never called my number.  But this caller sounded like some sort of voice over and did not say who the member name  was they were calling for , nor did they say what it was in reference to.  USAA always says member name calling for and what department to call back to.  It is getting pretty scary out there with all this stuff.  We must be careful.

The phone numbers are being spoofed, not highjacked.

May 24, 2022 From that Tuesday to Today Monday May 30, 2022 I've received a call once a day  (Hello this is Martin Wiggins calling from USAA please contact me or any representative at 800-264-9324) when I checked the call log the number calling me is 800-531-8722 which ironically is USAA's Customer Service Number & the number it wants me to call isn't listed through USAA. Even when you search the number nothing ties it to USAA and if you call the number it sounds completely different and the prompt messages are different. I logged into Remember, USAA will never call you. Read up on this if you need clarification.

    No, it’s a scam.  Don’t suggest otherwise.

They are spoofing USAA’s number.  There are apps one can download that allow you to select a number that you wish to appear when you call others.  Martin Wiggins is not real.  Your money is.  Keep them apart.

Gotten one call a day for about a week now from this number.  They always leave a message and ask me to call back at 800-264-9324.  The name in the voicemail is usually transcribed as Martin Megan, but if you listen to the voicemail I'm pretty sure the guy is saying "Mark Wiggins."  I called USAA's main number, and they don't show anyone trying to get in touch with me.  Most likely a scam.

I received several calls to my cell phone, which identified the call as being from USAA Claims over the last couple of weeks. The call was a prerecorded call from a Martin Wiggins who was calling from USAA and to please contact me or any representative at 800-264-9324. This is a different number than the actual USAA number I have. My mom got the same robe call. They must be "spoofing" the actual USAA number.
