- Annoyed| 1 replyI rec'd a call from GC Collection agency on my business phone for tenants who live in my bldg., tenants do this all the time when evading debt collectors. I called CG to STOP calling my business number as the tenant is giving them bogus numbers to hide from them. The young lady looked up the name of tenant, search my number (the one THEY called), no dice, nothing was coming up. I told her I just want the calls to cease, I offered to give her the tenants' cell phone number and she wouldn't take it! Even their calling number showed on my display wasn't theirs, very strange! The debt collector is also being scammed. She said she will give the info to her Supv. for further investigation.

Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt. It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes. The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.
