    I just called HSBC customer service. I clicked through to "open a new account". This way they hook you up to a live representative. I am in the process of talking to (blasting) a rep as I type. Please post this method of response in as many locations as you can and make a few calls to HSBC customer service. In my case I was put through to a second rep who asked if I knew a certain person - I did not. I was assured that they would remove my number.
    Please go get these guys.Caller: HSBC

    I have answered the phone twice today from this number and the callers are very rude and would not transfer me anyone to remove me from the calling list.  I consider this harassment.   How can I stop these calls and get to the bottom of this.

    I filed complaints for every last one of these numbers at http://www.donotcall.gov/ and believe that if enough people do so, the government will bankrupt these SOB's who keep calling every hour of the day! (An Internet search suggests that ALL of the numbers that keep calling me from area codes around the United States are from NCO Financial. They started harassing me after I got a new telephone number, so I must have inherited someone else's headache.)

    I get the same thing. It starts as early as 8am and goes until 9pm. At least 10 times a day. No messages, and no one says anything if you answer. Capital One is just as bad.

    My dad had account with them and he passed away a month ago. We have told them he passed away but still they call my mom several times a day. She is frustated to no end because she has so much other things to deal with with his passing, and they give her no time, for her grief. Its sad.

    Unwanted calls from this number, 4-5 a day with no one on the other end of the line.  When I called back, the message says "Card services" and asks that I enter my full account number.  No identifier.  All of my accounts are current so I have no idea what this is

    If your Mom does not live in one of these community property states (Arizona, California, Idaho, Louisiana, Nevada, New Mexico, Texas, Washington and Wisconsin), she is NOT liable for your Dad's debts.

    You and your family are not alone with your complaints about this organization. Nearly two years ago one of their dying customers posted this about them on this same thread as well as: http://householdwatch.com/news/interactive/753

    BM in New York sent this report: “I have been very sick for a long time and have been in and out of hospitals more times than I can count. When I finally did get to go back to work, I only worked for a few months and was laid off. I could not make the monthly payments and sent what I could afford. This was never enough. They called day and night, and always claimed that they wanted to work with me, but to do so, I had to pay a certain amount that was more than I could afford. I tried to explain about my illness, and the fact that I had lost my job, and that was not good enough for the greedy vultures. They turned me into a collection agency and then, they started harrassing me day and night until I sent them a cease and desist letter. Then HSBC called and said they wanted to work out a payment settlement, and I told them that I am terminal and have about 2 months left to live and they told me to pay off what I owe before I pass.”

    And, 800-395-2274 has received recognition from: http://householdwatch.com/news/interactive/833

    This is just one of our articles referencing HSBC complaints about mortgages, credit cards, auto loans, fees, late payment processing, and more:

    DL in Maryland said: “I’ve recently been getting A LOT, and I mean A LOT of calls on my cell phone (no land line, I only use my cell) from the phone # 1-800-395-2274. When answered, I would get the computer “please wait for an important message” line…then it would either hang up, or, well, anyway…. Long story short, I finally Googled the number, low and behold, HSBC credit card company. OK, I’ve (unfortunately) got a few of their cards, and have never been late on a payment. I was puzzled at what the deal was as to why they were (are) calling me (and I mean anywhere from 5-10 calls a day!), and on top of that, would never leave a message. Well, wanna know something…..have any of you been getting calls from this number? Just type the above phone number in the google search box and look at the results. Read what everyone says. Seems I’m not the only one.”

    Editor’s Note: You can see the Google results right here. It seems like HSBC is really showing how to drive a business in to the ground. With thousands of complaints from people who mailed their credit card payments early, only to receive a ‘late payment’, and many other shady tactics, calls from 1-800-395-2274 are as frustrating as they come. Impossible to stop, nobody to talk to, and nobody to regulate the problem, seem to be the three biggest complaints. File your FTC complaint today, and any others that merit your attention. You can do so from our main menu.

    BD in Texas said: “It is Sunday morning about 9:45 when we received a call from this number. We do not answer these numbers. We get calls from them all the time. We would strongly support a law that would prevent them and others from making these sort of calls. We are tired of the phone harasements that we are constantly receiving.”

    The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA), "is a federal statute that curtails unfair, abusive, or outrageous practices and tactics by collection agencies." - http://www.in.gov/dfi/2588.htm

    You can find an online .pdf copy that is supplied by the Federal Trade Commission (Fed or FTC) at http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/consumer/credit/cre27.pdf

    If you are a third party the below applies to you:

    § 804. Acquisition of location information
    Any debt collector communicating with any person other than the consumer for the purpose of acquiring location information about the consumer shall—
       (1) identify himself, state that he is confirming or correcting location information concerning the consumer, and, only if expressly requested, identify his employer;
       (2) not state that such consumer owes any debt;
       (3) not communicate with any such person more than once unless requested to do so by such person or unless the debt collector reasonably believes that the earlier response of such person is erroneous or incomplete and that such person now has correct or complete location information;
       (4) not communicate by post card;
       (5) not use any language or symbol on any envelope or in the contents of any communication effected by the mails or telegram that indicates that the debt collector is in the debt collection business or that the communication relates to the collection of a debt; and
       (6) after the debt collector knows the consumer is represented by an attorney with regard to the subject debt and has knowledge of, or can readily ascertain, such attorney’s name and address, not communicate with any person other than that attorney, unless the attorney fails to respond within a reasonable period of time to the communication from the debt collector.

    § 805. Communication in connection with debt collection:
        (b) COMMUNICATION WITH THIRD PARTIES. Except as provided in section 804, without the prior consent of the consumer given directly to the debt collector, or the express permission of a court of competent jurisdiction, or as reasonably necessary to effectuate a postjudgment judicial remedy, a debt collector may not communicate, in connection with the collection of any debt, with any person other than a consumer, his attorney, a consumer reporting agency if otherwise permitted by law, the creditor, the attorney of the creditor, or the attorney of the debt collector.

    § 806. Harassment or abuse
    A debt collector may not engage in any conduct the natural consequence of which is to harass, oppress, or abuse any person in connection with the collection of a debt. Without limiting the general application of the foregoing, the following conduct is a violation of this section:
       (6) Except as provided in section 804, the placement of telephone calls without meaningful disclosure of the caller’s identity.

    "If you are in Indiana and have a complaint against a Collection Agency, contact: Collection Agency Division, Secretary of State, One North Capitol, Suite 560, Indianapolis, IN 46204, 800-223-8791, 317-232-6684." - http://www.in.gov/dfi/2588.htm
