It's illegal. They wouldn't repeat their name or offer any information on themselves. Mentioned husband's estate in message to me--it's a scam.

The name of the company is Vengroff Williams & Associates. They have been in business for 45 years. Look them up on the web. They are a reputable company and do what they are hired by YOUR creditors to do!!! They are just doing their job. If it were your job, you would do the same....I think!

Its not a scam. They are a reputuable collection agency in Florida who handle Medical Collection Debts that are owed for Medications from being in a Nursing Home. I dealt with them on my aunts bill and they were very helpful and offered me a great payment plan to pay of her debt. I have just finally finished paying off the great settlement they offered me and it feels good to have a collection agency work with me instead of making me pay in full. Give them a chance, they are not all bad!

Phone Number 800-482-3013 is a collection agency.  They are trying to collect an amount greater than $2,000 for medical services for my deceased Mother.  I was never financially responsible for my Mother's debts and have repeatedly told this collection agency that there are no funds.  I returned to work in order to pay for a private nursing home and any related medical expenses for her.  I also took it upon myself to pay for any and all funeral and burial expenses.  Eight motnhs after her death and after my return to retirement, this collection agency called to advise of an unpaid bill.  I live on a social security check and cannot and will not negotiate this bill.

Please stop any further calls to my home phone number, 248-478-7019.

NO, this is not a REPUTABLBE firm and they are not just "doing their job." They do not follow the rules established by the government for debt collection. They also are extremely rude and harass me for a medical debt that is not mine and they have no tangible proof that it is, yet they continue to call me on my mobile on an hourly basis. If they are doing the same to you, you should send them a written request that they no longer call you and only attempt to reach you by mail. That is the law and it is your right.

Don't put up with these vultures. They actually buy up debt from medical providers for pennies on the dollar, and then make commission if they ever collect anything. They have no idea if the debts are real or not, nor do they care. It's just about them making a commission. As if our healthcare system wasn't messed up enough, we have scum like this exploiting poor people who get sick. It's disgusting.

Good points.  Folks need to understand that they have no legal obligation to communicate with a debt collector.

Bunch of dumbasses.  You people think they buy up debt? Im sure your the ones that also believe that stuff falls off your credit reports after 7 years right?  A majority of collection agencies work for the original creditors and if the balance is uncollectable they send it back to the creditor where the creditor can either tac on intrest or persue legal actions.  I suggest you morons look a little further.  And im sure all the people who work for the collection agencies know its not your bill but you were either the power of attorney or guardian of your family member and FAILED to do your due diligence.  i suggest you scumbags do your job and stop saying collectors are scum.  Think about it if you dirtbags paid your bills they wouldnt have jobs right?

Calls coming in at all hours from the number  800-482-3013.The messages start out that they will give you a 3 second time to deny you are the recorded name it announces! If you answer as we have you get yelled at and cursed plus insulted! They said they were trying to make me pay for my father's medications he is getting in a nursing home! He has a lot of insurance so why would there be any cost! My father is VERY ill and they even call him as late as 11 pm in a nursing home! They are calling the grandchildren at work as well and at their homes! When I asked for them to spell the company name they were calling from the man named James Alvo asked me if I had a 3rd grade education and rotting teeth sense I was from the south! This was all caught on the machine! And they also stated that they had mine and many other family members names, address, work numbers and SS numbers and would and could call whenever they pleased! He then said I should be ashamed that I wasn't paying for "the old man" to have his medicine!!! I am reporting this company to every place I can and let the machine catch these horrible people at their best! OBVIOUSLY NOT A REPUTABLE FIRM` replies to The Truth
That is why you are here posting your lies..

Relatives ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR THE DEBTS OF DECEASED LOVED ONES.

If the medical bill was submitted during probate and there were funds available it would have been paid!  Not submitted or NO FUNDS - NO PAYMENT.

FROM THE FEDERAL TRADE COMMISSION WEBSITE!
    http://www.ftc.gov/opa/2009/07/deceasedebts.shtm

Who is Responsible for a Deceased Relative's Debts?
If your relative leaves unpaid debts when he or she dies, do you have to pay?

According to the Federal Trade Commission, the nation’s consumer protection agency, surviving relatives usually have no legal obligation to pay the debts of a family member who has died.

Generally, that person’s estate is responsible for paying his or her debts. But if there isn’t enough in the estate to cover the debts, they typically go unpaid.

After a relative dies, debt collectors may contact family members and ask them to pay their loved ones’ debts. The rights of surviving relatives are covered by the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, which the FTC enforces. The FTC has developed a new consumer alert about this issue titled Paying the Debts of a Deceased Relative: Who Is Responsible?

To learn more, go to http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/consumer/alerts/alt159.shtm.

The Federal Trade Commission works for consumers to prevent fraudulent, deceptive, and unfair business practices and to provide information to help spot, stop, and avoid them. To file a complaint in English or Spanish, visit the FTC’s online Complaint Assistant or call 1-877-FTC-HELP (1-877-382-4357). The FTC enters complaints into Consumer Sentinel, a secure, online database available to more than 1,500 civil and criminal law enforcement agencies in the U.S. and abroad. The FTC’s Web site provides free information on a variety of consumer topics.

I agree - they don't seem to be too interested in following the rules - we got a call from them at 7.15am, well outside the time period collectors are legally allowed to make calls.

They had the wrong name (someone I've never even heard of) and the script they followed assumed that someone would be listening "live" (anyone leaving a voicemail in which they offer the option to "disconnect" is clearly not thinking about what they're doing). The information was delivered so rapidly and carelessly that it was bewildering - I've listened to the message several times and I still haven't managed to catch it all.

Then they left the connection open, and for the next couple of minutes I listened to a discussion about twins who had died on the same day, with the caller giving their personal details (I assume those poor folks' relatives were going to be next on the list to get a call). Shame they didn't think to deliver their message with such clarity.

Head teacher replies to The teacher
Junk debt buyers are the scum of the earth, period. They don't care whether the debts are legitimate and some have been successfully prosecuted for attempting to extort money from people who owe nothing.

The agencies that work directly for the original creditor do so for about 90 days and then the debt is usually written off by the original creditor.

Anyone coming after the debt beyond that point (and it can go on for literally years and years) have nothing to do with the original creditor and bought the debt for pennies on the dollar from god knows how many previous junk buyers.

And you would know all this if you were any real kind of teacher...

The second time they called was at 5:48am Pacific, again well outside the lawfully permitted time, and asking for someone unknown to us and who is definitely not associated with our phone number (one we've had for more than a decade) and never has been.

I suspect it's some kind of scam. They also don't identify themselves properly in the caller ID, which, as I understand it, is now a federal offense (Truth In Caller ID Act, HR 1258, with a fine of up to $10,000 per offense plus up to 1 year in jail).
