- patient's mommy daughter received a call from 800-service. The man didn't identify himself until he gave me his name & number(800-482-3013) for a call back. He refused to tell me, where he was callling from or why. Told him without a reason my daughter wouldn't call him back. He told me some people make choices in life and some of them are bad ones. He finally told me it was a medical issue. My daughter had never received a bill on this issue. After a lot of arguing, and my daughter investigating her medical file, turns out the bill was thru a medical supply company that the hospital never gave her Medicaid info to. My daughter talked to the medical supply company themselves, explained everything and they were writing it off. The medical supply company sent her an email confirming the write off and no report to the credit companies. So someone's billing dept screwed up and caused alot of headache. And this guy at the collection agency told me NEVER to call there again. Imagine that, harass us over a issue that should never have happened, and you tell me never to call you again. lol My daughter also filed a complaint with the FTC. It pays to investigate and go straight to the creditor.

- PR replies to PiterI want this people to stop calling my number. They want to reach the previous owner of my cell whose name is Josephine Wayne or something to that effect. I am tired of telling them STOP CALLING MY #, since I don't have anything to do with the debt, but they keep calling my number and they leave messages even though my NAME is in the voice message, so they should pay attention to the fact that they are leaving confidential information in somebody else's voice message. Please, stop calling 7077205868
- TrulyI feel like it's useless to point fingers. Yes, debt sucks, but if the company wants their money so badly, why don't they just call me themselves? I refuse to talk to a machine. It's not safe to give personal information such as your SSN or your credit card number of the phone, much less to a robot. If whatever company I am indebted to really wants their money, the will call me personally and have me speak to a human being.

- LaugingQuite amusing how the debt collection companies come and post on these blogs now.
Not only do they try to bully you at home, on your cell, at work but they think they can bully you here on a blog where people are trying to find out why they are calling in the first place.
To the debt collectors, quit telling people to answer and resolve the issue. I can't tell you how many times I have answered the phone and a collection agency is looking for my ex wife (ex from 15 years ago) or they are callling looking for somebody that has the same name as I do. We are not obligated to help you find somebody or give you the correct information.
To the consumer. This is really easy, if you don't owe anything don't answer the phone. That is what the answering machine is for.
If you think you owe someting then check your credit report. Guess what, if there is nothing on your credit report than they are trying to collect on a debt that is very very old. Guess what? They can't put extermely old debts on your credit report. Of course they will say they can (not legally). I had this happen one time on a phone bill that was 15 years old. I had filed this debt on a bankrupcy but rather than call the collection agency and fax them the bankruptcy papers, I disputed the date of the debt. You see creditors will charge off or write off the debt, they will then sell the debt to one of these agencies, years later the collection agency will file it on your credit report like it's some type of new debt. Sound like double jeporady doesn't it. Well guess what, you can disput the orginal date of the debt and if it's past 7 years or in some cases 10 years, the credit reporting agencies will remove it from your report. It's free to disput a debt.
How do I know all this? It took a long time to get on my feet after filing bankruptcy 15 years ago. I know this much, I have been responsible with paying my bills every since. So when a collection company calls, I dont answer the phone. They don't care if your obligated to pay the debt anymore. They hope that by threatening you that you will pay for something you don't even have ot pay for. After all, they are in business to make money and the only way to get it is if you pay.

- CraftyVengroff Williams sent me a letter asking me to provide details of an injury my son had a couple of years ago claiming that the health care insurer I had at that time was trying to "recover" costs. Strange, because I paid my co pay as required at the time for the visit, I paid for any prescriptions and aby subsequent visits. It was a very threatening letter and stated that my insurer would refuse to pay any claims, my credit status would be ruined etc. I ignored it. Several weeks later I got another letter with even worse language and court type forms in it to intimidate me. I called a person I know who works for the health insurer I had at the time of the accident and asked them to find out if I was being pursued for any past outstanding debts. I received a call back and was told absolutely nothing was owed by me. So, a couple of weeks later I picked up a couple of old computer monitors at a swap meet, boxed them up, taped Vengroff Williams return envelopes to the boxes and sent them back. Hopefully I cost these [***] some of the money they were trying to defraud me of!!

- They are Legit replies to Piter| 2 repliesI used to work for them. They deal with many reasons for calling. While I do agree they shouldn't call you if you are not the person they are looking for, they are calling to collect a debt. They are a collection agency that handled mostly Cell Phone accounts that were closed. They are not harassing you, you owe someone money. I know when I worked there, I was one of the nice people that wanted to work with you because I knew what you were going through. Not all collectors are bad people.
I was based out of Commack, NY when I worked for them. - DeeCalled twice, left no message

I wished him well, told him not to call the number again if he couldn't be clear about the reason for the call.

- fishpoemI followed up on a message left on my phone from 800-482-3013. I spoke with a polite, intelligent, helpful woman who in short order determined that they were targeting the wrong person. Same name as mine, but nothing else matched. The woman apologized for any inconvenience and promised to correct their records, which she did while we spoke. It would appear that this is, in fact, a legitimate collection agency located in Sarasota, Florida. I did not detect anything that seemed a scam.

- super_writerOh, a medical collection agency who want $260.00 for a Velcro brace when my son was in the ER for a pulled hamstring. Oh, your son has two medical insurances? Well, they paid everything but forgot about the $260.00 black Velcro brace the hospital gave your son to walk out to the car. Thought that was included in the inflated hospital bill. Maybe you need to collect from the hospital who charged my insurance companies and got money for using your brace? Maybe the hospital should have told me, "the brace is not part of the ER visit and what we're charging you". I am waiting for the bills to come in for the company who made the cotton balls, and band-aids, along with the company who made the surgical wash, and the paper company who made the Hospital Admissions Check List. This has gotten ridiculous.
