- LeeNot a scam. They called me to let me know that the purchases looked suspicious, thank goodness!!! I immediately called the bank and identified one other unauthorized online purchase and immediately canceled the card.
- Caller: Apple
- Tim| 2 repliesI returned the call with skepticism. Here is what was said.
Me: Hi, this is Tim returning your call (they only said my first name in the voice mail, so I only gave them that).
Lady: Hi, I just wanted to confirm a purchase that was made for an iMac. Do you authorize this purchase?
Me: No I do not.
Lady: Okay. I will cancel the order. You will want to contact {she knew my bank name} and let them know about this purchase that was attempted on your card ending in ####. Have a good day.
Me: Thank you!
So it seems legit to me. Calling the bank now.- Caller: Apple
- Tim replies to TimI just logged into my CC and there is a $2,000+ pending charge to Apple. This is a legit number.
- dd| 1 replyBe careful. These crooks found a way to get into Apple's phone numbers. I called two different numbers, both were answered by an automated system then to a real person. The first person was trying to get my information (that I wouldn't give him) hung up on him and the second person was able to look up the order with the order number the crook left on my voicemail. I gave her none of my information and told her to cancel the order as I didn't place the order. I'm still not completely sure I talked to a real apple representative so I am going to watch my credit card charges closely.

- BigA replies to ddNo, they didn't "get into Apple's phone numbers". They spoofed them Look up "Caller ID spoofing".
- Apple PurcaserABSOLUTELY a scam ! Don't know how they know about me contacting Apple, but this number in an email is NOT legit ! Apple doesn't seem to care that they have an internal problem...............

- Mary replies to CathyI got the same call and they did not ask for personal info. However, I did just speak with Apple support and they indicated it is not a legitimate Apple number. A week later though I am now unable to use my Apple password - it's disabled. I'm having to go through the recovery process to get my password reset - something is weird
- MaryI too received a call from this number and they did not ask me for any personal information - just whether or not I was trying to make purchases. However, I did speak with Apple support today because my Apple password is no longer working and I have to go through recovery to change it. There's no reason it shouldn't be working so something is very odd. They also indicated that this phone number is NOT a legitimate Apple phone number.

- Mary replies to TimThey did the same for me and in fact my credit card was actively being used for unauthorized purchases. By this person calling me they alerted me to this problem. However, now having difficulty with my password so I am suspicious.
- Mary replies to Herb HHerb, this just happened to me and Apple security says the phone number is not legit. But your explanation here indicates that it is legitimate. Sounds like not all areas of Apple are in the loop.
- SandraReceived a package from FedX.was a apple home pod with no receipt or packing info from a shipping company in Mt Juliet TN Called Capital One and $385 charged to my account on June 29,2018 said by me on ITunes Apple Store with my info and credit card I told them I did not order. Capital One canceled my card and she got Jake on the phone from Apple. Jake would not let Capital One stay on the line.Jake tells me a Marc will call me back about how to return the product. Within 15 minutes a get a call from Marc the number was from Austin Tx 512-674-2000 He tells me he will send me a return FedEx label which sends it back to the Mt Juliet, TN address it came from which is some kind of shipping company and sends me the 1-800-506-3096 number if I need to call him back and his extension and said don't take back to a Apple Store for refund.
His email to FedEx said speaker value $100. Something didn't sound right
Starting looking these numbers up and saw some saying this is some kind of scam.
I believe it is a scam. I'm calling Capital One back tomorrow. Now they have my email address and he asked me if I canceled my Card yet!- Call type: Scam suspicion
- DavidIts fully legit. Just check the email sent to you. No fraud.

- robinYep - same thing. This is from Apple. One thing to note, if they call you back, as mine did just minutes after I left the message, they will call from a different number. In my case, they called to make sure I meant to order iTunes gift cards versus an Apple Store gift card since it was a little higher than the typical iTunes gift card order and I check out as a guest so they didn't know much about who I was. Nice service! Gotta say!

- Tygerkat replies to plsIf you already know who called you, why would you look up the number? Besides, just because it was "legit" for you doesn't mean it is for others. Scammers spoof legitimate numbers all the time.
- EggThis isn’t a scam. After receiving a call from this number I checked my credit card and saw a pending charge from Apple. I called Apple directly through the number on their website. They said this transaction was flagged and marked as fraudulent. They also confirmed that the voice mail I got was from them. It’s best practice to call any company’s number directly rather than the call back number provided because then you know it’s not a scam or phishing attempt.
