Same thing, got the call, they left voicemail saying it was Josh from Apple, and he left another # to call back, and that it was related to an online apple purchase (gave me the order #). I didn't make an online apple purchase, so i looked up the customer service # for apple, i called apple gave them the purchase #, they confirmed my address and gave the last 4 of the credit card that was used (it was mine), I checked my CC and there was a charge on there that I didn't make. Apple canceled the order, and then I called my CC and canceled the card.

Received a call (voice mail message) from someone named Carlos on 9/12. Said he was calling from the Apple online store and ws giving me a call because they needed to speak with me regarding my order. The guy provided an order number and stated to call them back at 1-800-506-3096. I was skeptical because I had not placed an order with Apple. I googled the number and arrived here. I saw a mixture of responses. Some saying it was a scam and other saying it was a legitimate call, which ultimately led them to find out someone was placing fraudulent charges on their credit/debit card. I decided to check my account first before taking any other action. Turns out there were fraudulent charges to Apple and a host of other stores using my bank card number totaling over $2,000. Some of the charges had already been reversed by my bank. However, I immediately had that card cancel, filed a claim and then call the number left on my voice mail for Apple. The gentleman who called me from was very helpful. Apple suspected it was fraud as well and already canceled the order. He also advised me to change my Apple ID.  So, this is a valid phone number. If you are skeptical about returning a call from this number, you can always start by calling their main number from their Web site.

I suspect (but can't prove it) my card information was stolen after having to speak with two different Old Navy customer service reps to correct an order I had placed online. I had to provide them with my card number over the phone vs. entering my card number on a secure site. The fraudulent charges started within hours after those calls.
