- AllenReceived a text from supposedly 800-531-8722 asking me to confirm whether I had attempted transaction. Replied NO. Then got a call from what appeared to be 800-531-8722 saying he was fraud prevention. Gave several attempts he said had been made on my account, plus a wire transfer. Then sent text with temporary password, asking me to send my current password, so they could prevent unauthorized use of my account. That is when I got suspicious and hung up

- BugCalled me 8 times back to back and left no voicemail. I don’t have USAA nor should they have my number.

- Debra| 1 replyI received a second call from these scammers claiming to be a USSA representative. They knew my first name and claimed that my credit card was being charged $1,000 plus dollars from the United Kingdom!!
- Caller: USSA ?
- Call type: Valid
- HelenReceived call stating there was suspicious activity on my card and asked for my USAA ID, social security #, and tax ID. Of course no info was given as I was suspicious. I hung up and called the USAA number I have saved to confirm there was no suspicious activity, and there was none. These are scammers posing as USAA.

- Mary replies to SugarMamaA scammer used it to try to defraud me. Called USAA directly to verify.
- BethClaimed to be from USAA Fraud Dept. Asked if I was traveling to Bakersfield, CA. I asked him to confirm which card this was on and he became very irate. He could not verify which account it was supposed to have been attached to, he claimed that it would just pull from all of them if it could not charge. I told him that I felt he was wrong, and I was going to disconnect the call and call back and speak to a different agent. He became very rude and began using profanity and immediately hung up. Please don't give these people any info. They are looking to scam you!
- PatrickReceived a text asking if I made a $1000 transaction on Zelle. Then said to reply Yes or No and then there was the usual text you'd see from bank texts in general. Naturally out of curiosity, I replied NO and immediately received a second text stating my debit card was froze and I needed to hit the provided link to call them right back. Some non english speaking guy started asking for bank info and hung up. 3rd time they have tried this on me in the last two months. I will not answer a call from USAA plain and simple and always call back.

- theophilusgottlieb| 1 replyScammers spoofed the USAA customer service number to get my bank PIN. It literally appeared in caller ID as 800-531-8722, which is the USAA customer service line. Throughout, the person sounded professional (save for mispronouncing my sometimes-mispronounced last name).
REMINDER FROM USAA WEBSITE: "USAA will never call you, and then ask you for your one-time verification code, password or USAA PIN."
WHAT HAPPENED:
(1) THE SETUP: They called, ID'd themselves as being with the USAA fraud prevention department, and asked if some charges they listed off were me. The charges were in an area other than where I live. I confirmed the charges they listed were not. They repeated back what I said to confirm, and said they'd put a block on those charges and dispute them.
(2) THE ASK: They provided my name and last four of my SSN, and asked for my PIN to verify my identity. I said I wasn't comfortable and wanted time to google their phone number. They said they understood and that they would standby. The number, of course, was on the USAA website. I fell for it and provided them my PIN.
(3) ME SCREWING UP BUT GETTING LUCKY: I immediately felt weird, so I asked them questions to buy time to change my PIN. After changing my PIN, the person said the PIN didn't pass their verification check. I told them I'd changed it because I didn't trust them. I said there were no charges on my account that I could see. They said that's because unapproved charges don't appear on accounts.
(4) THE DISENGAGEMENT: I said I remained uncomfortable. They said they understood, and offered that I could hang up and call the number back, to verify the call's legitimacy.
(5) CONFIRMATION OF SCAM: I called the number back. USAA picked up. They confirmed that they had not called me, and that there were no fraudulent charges.- Caller: Scammer spoofing USAA number

- JB replies to theophilusgottliebFell for it too, but didn’t catch it in time. The scam was complete enough that my requested shutdown of the cards and mailing of new ones from USAA happened as promised - because they were on the phone with USAA at exactly the same time, relaying info I provided. Oof. They got some cash advances and redeemed my card points for a gift card. I’m still working with USAA to see if that’s the scammer’s address, but unlikely.
Later, I was on the phone with USAA (the real one) when the scammer called them to regain access. When told that I was on the line too, they told the USAA rep that I was the scammer….
Still getting texts from them. I call USAA every single time directly now.
3 decade happy USAA member, and I fell for it. Be careful! - Peege O.Didn't answer the call so it went to voice mail. Message was, Someone calling themselves Tanisha calling from USAA about health insurance. USAA is basically used by the military (active and retired). And most military persons know that there is an insurance company used by the military, and its not USAA. Peege-1, Scammers-0.

- Jennifer replies to SugarMama| 2 repliesI just got a call but let it go to VM. Someone said they'd call me back Weds at 8 am but likely just remembered. But I was being cautious. Problem already solved now anyway.
- Jennifer replies to Jennifer| 1 replyI forgot to say I believe it was legit. Her voice on VM sounded familiar
- Jennifer replies to JenniferLegit USAa insurance which I have.
- Claswell2023--they're still being spoofed. USAA is great and will occasionally call you but if they call you with:
-A terrible connection
-no info on the last 4 digits of the account
-asking you to verify exp. date for security purposes
-passing you to a second rep who repeats info
it's a scammer! Hang up, call USAA back, and you'll get legit people.- Caller: 800-531-8722

- pdsGot a text from 805 293 8102 asking if I had made a transfer from my USAA account that I hadn't. I replied "no" (stupid of me). They sent another text saying they'd canceled my card and that they'd call me. I logged into my USAA account online (via a bookmark in my browser) and verified no activity. They called me from the +1 800 531-8722 number which my phone reported as "USAA" four times in rapid succession; I declined all calls so I have no idea what they sounded like. No message was left. They left a final text again from 805 293 8102 saying they tried to call me and asking if I wanted a call back.
I feel dumb that I even replied to the first request. Pretty slick move with the 1-800 number though.- Caller: +18005318722

- Lj replies to JBThis number is STILL scamming. Just called me 15 min ago. 8 Aug 2023 6:49 pm.
- LJ18005318722 just called me. Asked me if I charged something at Best Buy in Louisville, Ky. I said no. Then she asked if I charged something at Walmart in Louisville, KY. I said no.
Then she said she was fraud prevention with USAA and I need to Login and enter a code. (She had a heavy voice and spoke with urgency.). I told her I was going to hang up and login to USAA and check these “pending charges.” She sounded defeated.
She didn’t thank me like USAA would, nor did she ask for any verification like USAA would when you CALL THEM. She hung up and so did I.
I typed the (800) 531- 8722 number and Viola, I’m here reporting my experience with the scammer.- Caller: Unknown female

- EricThis is the number on USAA's website. But recently a scammer has been calling me with this spoofed number, pretending to be the USAA credit card fraud department.
I am a USAA member so I answered.
They have Indian accents. They told me of some suspicious purchases on my account. No, I didn't make those. They will cancel those purchases, but I first need to verify the last eight digits of my credit card. They tell me the first eight (which are shared by all Visa USAA cards). They will then ask for the three digit security code on the back, to "verify" me. They knew my name and email address.
USAA will never ask for your card number or security code, they speak with an American accent, and they have better ways to authenticate who they are and who you are.
When in doubt, hang up and call them back. That will defeat the spoofing, as you will reach the real owner of the number.- Caller: Scammer pretending USAA

- Cesar+18005318722 received a phone call from this number claiming to be United Auto Services on Dec. 17 2023 a Sunday at 9:30pm central time. It was an automated call and as soon as I picked up I hung up, then they proceeded to call 4 more times back to back. I've never heard of United Auto Services. So, I can't really say if it was a scam or something legitimate, but under the given circumstances leads me to believe it isn't.
