- M. StruckGot the call just a few minutes ago. They said this is for a Stratford Rickey! WOW! If your going to make up a name at least make up one that sounds believable! I did not pick up I let the machine pick up.They said if I wasn't Stratford Rickey to hang up now, so I picked up the phone and slammed it down! So done with scam calls!!!
- wwWell, apparently business is good because they've got a new employee -- Patty Lopez! Otherwise same story as everyone else.

- billronggot an automated msg that asked me to call back Paddy Lopez at USCB. I don't have any debt (other than maybe late bills under $100). Called them, female operator asked me to confirm DOB and address. Hesitated, I gave my street address and zip code, she said what's city & state, I said the zip code should cover that. She said if u don't give me your info, we can't disclose your debt info, I then decided to end the call.

- A BratFor the last month or so, I've been getting a robo-call with a call back number of 800-575-5076. After reading this thread I choose NOT to call them back and since we have nothing that would be in collections it just felt like a scam.
Since the same robo-call has been happening EVERY DAY, I'm quite sick of it so ...
I decided to call them back and record the call. Unfortunately when called, the auto recording ended up "transferring" me and hung up on me. Man after reading all of the stuff on here, I was really wanting to have some fun with them!
If I had been put through to a live person and knowing that if it's legitimate they would have NO problem with it. At the very beginning of the call the first thing out of my mount would be that the call is being recorded and if they don't want to be recorded they should hang up and not call back or if they stay on the line they are authorizing the call to be recorded.
If they stayed on the line I would then ask for multiple pieces of information that ANY legitimate business would give when asked.
Any time I've done this scammers either hang up immediately or try very hard to bully me and when I don't give in to their tactics end up hanging up within seconds.- Caller: UCSB America

- Pissed at Patty LopezFor months now I've been receiving phone calls and voicemails from 877-846-9531. Supposedly this is from a Patty Lopez at USCB. They claim to be collecting debt but I have no outstanding debts. I found this site before calling back, and am very concerned it is a scam.

- Susan999| 6 repliesIn my case, this was *not* a scam, contrary to what others have said here. At first I treated it as a scam because of what people here had written. I blocked the number and ignored it. A few days later I got a written notice from them in the mail telling me how much I owed and to whom. I then called the company who it was claimed I owed money, a reputable Medical services provider, they demonstrated to me that, yes, indeed, I owed that. They had only billed me once for the amount before handing it over to collections. I misplaced it or the bill never reached me (got lost in the mail, etc.). They apologized for not giving me more than once notice to pay it, called it back from collections and dropped the interest on the bill. However ... the collection agency phone call (USCB) *WAS* legitimate.

How can I verify whether or not a debt collector is legitimate?
Answer: If you suspect a debt collector is not legitimate, ask the caller for their name, company, street address, telephone number, and professional license number. You can also refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." Do not give personal or financial information to the caller until you have confirmed it is a legitimate debt collector.
Here are a few warning signs that could signal a debt collection scam:
The debt collector threatens you. Legitimate debt collectors probably won't claim that they'll have you arrested or claim that they or their employees are law enforcement officers.
The debt collector refuses to give you information about your debt or is trying to collect a debt you do not recognize. You have certain rights to ask a debt collector to verify the debt. You can find sample letters at the CFPB website to request this information. Ask for an explanation in writing before you pay.
The debt collector refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number.
The debt collector asks you for sensitive personal financial information. You should never provide anyone with your personal financial information unless you are sure they're legitimate.
If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:
Ask the caller for his or her name, company, street address, telephone number, and professional license number. Many states require debt collectors to be licensed. Check the information the caller provides you with your state officials, or the state in which the debt collector holds a license.
If the caller refuses or is unable to provide you with information about his company, or if you can’t verify the information he provides, do not give money to the caller or company.
Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." This notice must include:
The amount of the debt
The name of the creditor you owe
A description of certain rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, consider requesting this information in writing or seeking assistance before paying the debt to make sure the debt, and the company, are valid.
TIP:
You can consider sending the collector a letter requesting the information by using one of the CFPB's sample letters. You can also submit a complaint to the CFPB or you can contact your state Attorney General’s office.
Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know the company or person you are talking with is a real debt collector. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft such as:
Charging your existing credit cards
Opening new credit card or checking accounts
Writing fraudulent checks
Taking out loans in your name
Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate – but you think the collector may not be – contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.
Report the call. Submit a complaint with the CFPB or get in touch with your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers.
Stop speaking with the caller. If nothing else works and you believe the calls are fraudulent, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. - BigA replies to Susan999Too bad none of what you said is true. If they sent you a letter, which I very much doubt, you would have verified the bill by sending them a debt validation letter. No "reputable" company sends things to collections after only sending one bill. Why would they want to lose up to a third of their income by doing that?
- Tygerkat replies to Susan999So you forgot about the services this medical provider gave you until this debt collector called you? I don't think much of this "reputable" medical services provider if they sent it to collections after only one attempt to contact you. Perhaps they aern't as reputable as you think?
And since you received written notice from the collector, what is the legal name and business address for them? - B-Edwards replies to Susan999Susan is a Shill.
Using the words and phrases from the Shill handbook. - Vii| 1 replyThis company called but this time it was a lady by the name of "Patty Lopez" and she left a message about a debt from usbc which I've never heard of nor do I owe any debt. After reading these messages I just blocked the number and went about my regular day. Don't fall for god scam!

- Danielhonestly, not a scam. I was worried after reading these comments, but they provided clear information on a debt I owed Kaiser. I called Kaiser, they confirmed USCB is their collection agency. Turns out Kaiser had sent my bills to the wrong address. I was able to get Kaiser to recall the collection and squared it away directly with them. Make sure they send you a letter of notification to confirm the debt...

- Kevin| 1 replyAt least not entirely a scam. They got called by Kaiser to collect a debt from me. Speaking with Kaiser, they said "Yes. It's a collection agency of ours." Take care

- It is replies to Kevinmy understanding that they have to prove you owe the debt, and also prove that they are the ones to collect it. So they didn't do any of that and told you that you had to call this Kaiser outfit? Sounds like a bunch of scam artists to me. Maybe you should be the one taking care.
- AnnoyedApparently nobody has ever owed money to Kaiser Hospital before. USBC is whom tries to collect money on bills that patients didn't pay for Kaiser. I'm sure there are others they collect for, but Kaiser Hospital is one of the main ones. I owed them money before and had to pay through this place. Granted, I didn't pay over the phone. I mailed in my Health Savings account card number to pay off the over $600 I owed from an emergency room visit, and for some reason, they never charged the amount. This was directly to Kaiser. NO idea why they didn't use the card, I had more than enough money on it. and now it's in collections, which is total BS. So tired of all this garbage should have never been sent to these jerks. Collection companies are the worst. I remember being told to NEVER pay off things on your credit report because even if you do, the debt stays on there for 7 years, so what's the point!!

- FedupFirst time I got the call, I called back the number they indicated and it was Life Alert. They insist they did not set this up. So I waited and of course they called again. I called back the number they dialed from (before when they called it only said USBC on CID) and this time it went to USBC. They're asking for my husband; however, if this is a Kaiser bill, he doesn't have an outstanding Kaiser debt. I was put on hold, then told to leave a message with all my account info. As IF. The first time they called, it was Patty Lopez; this time it's Heidi Lopez. They need to get their sh*t together.
