This number called me to let me know that he worked for Microsoft text support and he is receiving an error message on his computer that people form other countries are trying to hack into my computer. He gave me the name Mike and a phone number of 909-173-1731

The name came up on caller ID as Microsoft, and the phone number on caller ID is a genuine Microsoft number, but this was definitely not a call from Microsoft.  Someone was "spoofing" -- giving a fake name and number on caller ID.  There are some circumstances when spoofing is legal -- for example, if you are working from home one day and don't want clients to know your home phone number -- but it is illegal to spoof as part of another crime, such as obtaining money by fraud or deception.  Microsoft does not call customers to check their computers for viruses, so always be suspicious that there's a case of spoofing, with potential identity theft or obtaining money under false pretenses, going on.  Best advice -- don't answer the phone.  Second best advice, say something like "I don't deal with scammers" and quickly hang up.  Don't get into a discussion, as you might inadvertently give the caller some personal information.  And don't curse or yell; you'll be raising your blood pressure, and actually encouraging the scammers to do more of their dirty work. Getting such responses is a total turn-on for many of them.  If you think it really might be Microsoft, call the company after you hang up; you'll learn that no one called you and that the company is well aware that such crimes are being committed and trying to work with law enforcement to catch them.

Received a call they asked for me by name.  I asked who he was he gave me some name and continued to talk said I had a Windows problem with my computer and if I was at my computer.   I asked again who he was he said his name again and that he was with Microsoft, I told him he was not and he started talking very vulgar sexually before I could hangup.  I felt totally violated.  I can understand the phone number part but my name?

This sounded like a scam, they said they see errors messages from my computer (which I don't own) - said someone from another country is trying to steal my information and that they will give me steps to give them access to my computer.... Sounds very scam-oriented (a way to collect ur personal information)

Got many calls from this number over the past few days. Today an Indian sounding man told me that my computer has a virus and just contacted their (Microsoft) company and that he can get the virus out of the windows operating system for 89.95. I asked him how the computer contacts people as I am not very computer savy. He informed me that when you get a virus that your windows calls the Microsoft help desk and automatically sends in a trouble ticket. I told him that is really exciting to learn. I told him that it is also [***] and he was full of it and hung up. He called back and called me a [***]. Told him "life is a [***] and then you marry the son of one" and hung up. He has not called back again yet.

This is a scam.  Indian accent female told me my computer was sending them signals that someone was trying to hack into my computer.  Funny thing is that I don't have my own computer.  I use a work computer only.  This is a total scam to try to get money.

Just got a call from this number. The woman was from India and she started talking real fast. Claiming she was from Microsoft and that my computer was sending them a bunch of critical error messages and that someone was messing around in my computer without me knowing it. Then she tells me that i need to get in front of my computer and grant her access to it so she can fix the error. As soon as I told her I've been sitting in front of it all day (I work from home) and that nothing is wrong with it and that it is running the same as it has been since I pull it out of the box she hung right up. Scam Scam Scam.
