- San replies to AlexYes it still could be a scam.. the police have said the number that comes up on your caller ID is not necessarily the number they're calling from.. they spoof the legitimate number..lol.. it's a scam..
- Jane Smith replies to AlexBut what if you don't have a Capital One nor applied for one? Sounds extremely sketchy to me, and the scammer probably highjacked the number so there isn't any point in answering it.
- LB replies to AlexJust because the phone number is a legitimate phone number, it doesn't mean the bank was using it. Hackers/scammers can spoof *any* number, meaning they can make it seem like the call is from someone you know or from a legitimate business. I'd call Capital One to see if they are indeed calling random people who don't have accounts for this offer. If they are, tell them to stop (bad business anyway) & to take you off their list. If they say they don't make these calls, let them know someone is spoofing their number.

- GGLI looked up Capitol One and found this number.
There was a $35.00 charge on my card, but it was the yearly fee.
Later at 7:00, the phone rang, but nobody was there.
It is the same number.
Somebody is spoofing a real Capital One number.
I will call the number on the cars to check it out.
If I can not resolve this, I will call the FTC.- Caller: Not sure

- CatI am very suspicious of these calls. I got one earlier today that left no message. I have a Capital One credit card and I just checked on it and there are no issues. I also checked and the number they called me on is my cell - which they do not have. Based on that, I don’t believe this is a legitimate call.
- Caller: Allegedly Capital One

- CJThey called and I answered as I have an account at Capital One. The gentlemen went on about my credit card and stated because I have a good payment history they could lower the rate below 12.49%. When I asked him which card this was regarding he answered with a generic "on your Visa and MasterCard." I then hung up

- Rose in CaliforniaI did not answer the phone because I was outside without the phone and they did not leave a message. However it is the number given in the comments here that is from Capital One which Ido not have any business or credit cards with. From what I read about this number it is a spam call..

- Queen RamondaIf you receive an unsolicited call from this number and the caller is telling you that he/she is calling from Capitol One with a pre-qualified offer to lower you APR on your credit card account, it is A SCAM! DO NOT provide the scammer with any personal information. Hang up, block the number and call Capital One yourself to report the scam or send an email to abuse@capitalone.com.
I received a call like this on 02/13/2023 and the caller asked me if I knew what Experian is. He said his name is Harry and that Capital One used my Experian credit report to pre-qualify me for an offer to lower my APR. *Note very well:* Financial institutions WILL NEVER call you about things like that. Rather, you will have to call them to inquire if there is an offer like that on your account. I called Capital One after I hung up and blocked the scammer's number, and the legitimate Capital One agent advised me that no one from Capital One called me about any offer and that, and they never will call me unless I requested a call back for some specific reason. Then, the agent advised me to report the incident to the email address listed above. Interestingly enough, the number showed on my caller ID as Capital One, and this is why I answered in the first place!
You have been warned! DO NOT engage these scammers, because you will be on the losing end of their scam!- Caller: Scammers International

- J.W.Got a call from this # today. I didn't give him any info, rather I interviewed him LOL. His name was Danny Bri*** (I didn't get his whole name due to the broken English). He even went as far as giving me his 'security agent' ID of CMS4109 (which is BS). I told him I wasn't giving him any personal information and thanked him for his time telling him I'll call the # on the back of my card to confirm LOLOL.

- KateCGot a call from this "number." The name was listed as unknown. I have no business with Capital One and NEVER use this number for anything other than work related activities. No VM left
- Ba replies to AlexIt most likely is a scam. The caller will ask general questions to gain your trust. They had no specific information on me. Just compliment me for my good credit. My caller offered to lower my credit card interest rate to 6%. Asked for my expiration date on highest balance card. Then asked for my credit card number. LOL. Of course I gave them information to a card I made up from a bank I dont bank with. LOL. The longer I keep them on the line the less time they have to scam other people.
- VaSpoof Chase Bank Number. Offered at no cost to me to lower my interest rates on all my credit cards to 6%. They work with Equifax . Never gave me a company name. Asked for my expiration date lol. Tried to get me to give them my credit card number next. I gave them fake numbers from a bank I don't use. Asked me for next card..... I laughed told them NO. I'm not giving you all my credit card numbers and dates, so you can use them. They hung up while I was laughing.
