- Amber SJust rec'd a call said they were calling to tell me I had a check returned----it was a very shady auto recording. I found this site from Googling the #. Its a scam---I havent written a check in YEARS....I knew it was a scam right away. Dont fall for this crap!
- Caller: Didnt state the Company Name
- db| 1 replygot a voicemail from "jeremy stein" stating that my file is in the legal department. did not say who they were calling for. called the number back and spoke with a woman who did not give me her name. she said the company she worked for was Hawthorne Redmond Mediation. She asked my name and i gave it to her along with my phone number and she came back on the line and proceeded to recite my entire social security number to me and said is this your information? she did not ask me to verify anything other than my name and phone number. i panicked and confirmed that it was my social security number and she then told me that this was regarding a debt from years ago with a company i had never heard of. next she told me that they were going to freeze my bank account in ______ county - naming the county i currently live in. i told her it was not legal to make threats like that per the fair debt collection practices act and she said that i must not know much about that act and needed to study it again. i told her i felt uncomfortable with this conversation and asked what their website was so i could research them online for validity and she stated that they did not have anything online. next i asked for a hard document to be sent to me in the mail that would give me information on the account theyre calling about as well as to show me that they are a legit company and she said she would not and did not have my address...but they have my bank account information as well as my entire social security number which she recited without even knowing who she was really talking to? i'm at a loss and do not know where to go from here to protect or defend myself against this type of thing... help!

- CWG40ID themselves as Hawthorne Redmond Mediation. So far as I know, that company does not exist. Total debt scammers based on history on 800notes.
In the past they've been known as Tomco Services. (No doubt for Thomas Consigli)

- CWG40 replies to dbHawthorne Redmond Mediation is a non-existent company. The people who called you are scam artists. They specialize in cold-calling people about questionable or non-existent debts. It's a psychological trick to throw people off.
1. Never give out personal financial or SSN# information to anyone you do not know personally.
2. No debt collector can freeze anyone’s bank account.
Just because a voice on the telephone claims you owe a debt does not mean you owe it
If a voice on the telephone claims you owe a debt:
1. Demand the person give you his or her name, company name, and address
2. Demand a debt validation letter by US mail. E-mail no good.
3. Do not pay the collection agent or anyone else a dime until the debt is validated
If they are bothering you, report them:
http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0149-debt-collection
Also contact your local attorney general
If they continue to bother you, tell them that you know this is a debt scam and that you are making a complaint to the police for extortion. Once you get a copy of the police report and they call you again , just read out the file number and the name of the PD or Sheriff’s office involved. Tell them you’ll be glad to send a copy to them at whatever address the jack***es are working out of now.
Do not return these calls. Do not talk to them. Do not give them any information. Do not give them any money. Or agree to.
They call you again, tell them that you KNOW they are a scam, that you have their address (See below) and that you aren't going to be pushed around by some scam debt collector. Yell at them, talk over them. All these people understand is brute force (metaphorically speaking) and that's the only thing that will shut them up.
Also, you might consider getting a call blocker and not answering call numbers you do not recognize. Don't be afraid of these people, hit back! Hit 'em hard if they call you. - CWG40 replies to cecilIgnore and block the calls. Total scam. See my notes.
- jamesI told them if they think I owe them money file a legal action in district court in Montgomery county Alabama, and I will defend it in front of a judge. They hung up on me. They claim this is a debt from 2009 for a returned check. Well guess what. The statute of limitation for an "open" account in the state of Alabama is 3 years, so even if I owed the money, good luck trying to collect. Ha Ha. These a** holes must think people are stupid. Just a scam. As far as I am concerned, they can blow it out their a**.

- HKReceived a message from this number. The majority was cut-off and they only part that came through was to "...consider myself legally notified". Of what, I have no clue... It went to my Google phone number, which I had set-up when selling a car online so I wouldn't have to use my real number. I'm sure they troll Craigs list for people's information. Total Scam.

- KYJeff replies to HeatherGot a call from these people yesterday. They are without a doubt a bunch of SCAMMERS. They call and you call them back and all's they do is threaten those who are not the wiser. And the sad thing is that there are people who fall prey and pay. They act like they know the law. I hope they do come to KY and try to serve me. Cause they don't do there homework. If they did they would know I live with 2 police officers and my sister is a prosecutor. Hope these scammers know who they are dealing with this time. But I will be more than happy to wave buy as they go to jail. Let's see who is smarter when it comes to the law.
- sick of these peoplesame message as other people - it is an automated message - when it calles out who the call is for it does not say a name and then they proceed to tell you why they are calling -
SCAM - SCAM - SCAM - SCAM!!!!!!
Don't talk to these people - just hang up. if they were for real they would send you a letter via US mail. What they are doing is agaist the law. If you can I would suggest changing your number - if you can't they will go away after a while of not getting any response.- Caller: who knows

Googled it and found numerous other complaints about Jeremy Stein and multiple numbers (800-656-5692) being used to say the same thing. 800-721-3545 also brought up a website americacovered.com which states "Providing specialized solutions for small business needs".
