- LeeThey say they have legal documents to serve and they want a call back. When you Google the number, it is for a condo in Port Aransas, TX. Major spam. I've never heard of calling before you serve papers
- ImeldaAutomated maled voice stating that I, then a silence that states NO NAME as to who this call is for, will have legal documents served on me. Then it says hit any key and you will be connected. Googled the number and its to condo's in Port Aransas.
- geeAutomated maled voice stating that I, then a silence that states NO NAME as to who this call is for, will have legal documents served on me. Then it says hit any key and you will be connected. Googled the number and its to condo's in Port Aransas! Also they are calling for a phone number 406-905-0537 and 888-510-3257
- Caller: SCAMMER
- J8Automated voice says "this is a legal attempt to contact", then a pause for a recording to start but it doesn't, then it continues to say that they have legal documents to serve at my home or place of employment within the next 2 days and if I have questions to call this number.
Sounds like a scam. - Receiver12| 1 replyReceived call stating they wanted to speak to me about a returned check on my checking account (which I don't have) & to press a number to speak with a live person. I hung up because I knew I had no bounced checks and that this was a scam. Googled the number and saw similar posts. This phone number is also selling real estate and vacations rentals and shows to belong to a school district in Texas and even has a listing in India............don't fall for this.......................scammers need to get real jobs. You won't be called about "legal papers" to be served................you will be served.................you won't get notice. They are trying to frighten you into turning lose your hard earned money..................don't give them your money and don't press another key to talk to them, because they probably have a way of charging you money for that also!
- Caller: Not Given
- BrianI received a call yesterday and today from that number, and today I let my voice mail get it. The message says that a Jeremy Stein is calling in regardl to a legal matter his firm has been retained to handle due to a returned item on my checking account. The message says I can call 1-800-656-5692 or push any key to be connected. I called 1-800-656-5692 from a secure line and got Hawthorne Redmond Mediation out of New York. I looked them up and they are a debt collection company. When I called a Melissa Green answered the phone and so I asked her to speak to Mr. Stein. She said before she could do that I would need to provide her my name and the phone number I received the call on. I refused and told her I would just call the FBI and let them handle it. And just to be sure I called my bank and they showed no issues anywhere with my account, and certainly no returned items. I then called the FBI who seemed uninterested in taking down the information or looking into the matter, but they suggested I have the number blocked by my cellular carrier. I then called the FTC, who said call the FCC, who then said call the Consumer Financial Protecton Bureau. At that point I just came on the internet and saw these posts. It amazes me that law enforcement agencies refuse to do anything. If I can call the number and talk to someone so easily then so can they! SMH

- Apparently no nameSame here.. Got a phone call with the exact same message as the above posts... Definitely a scam!!
- KJGot a call from this number today...let it go to VM and then listened to it. It began with call re: legal matter for "..........." No name. Said this matter had been turned over to them for "what appears to be a returned item on my checking account". The male voice on his message told me or my "representative" to call Jeremy Stein as legal proceedings had been taken against me. The first reg flag was that my name was not given in the message , just silence during that time and 2nd red flag is I have no checking acct and lastly the phrase "it appears to be a returned item" immediately let me know this was not legit, one bit. A debt collector will always know who they are calling, will generally provide a case # or reference # and they will most definately know the exact nature of the matter. When I did a reverse phone number search on WhitePages, an alert came up stating there was spam activity related to that number. Now I don't exactly know what that means but I am not calling this place because I found there are a couple of companies with this number and one is a resort so my advice is to delete the message and not give it a second thought. I have had calls like this before trying to say the same thing and also calls relating to a "hacker" who accessed my computer. There are all kinds of scams out there and it amazes me how quickly people will buy into this BS. DO NOT CALL THESE PEOPLE AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, IF YOU DO, MAKE THEM PROVIDE YOU WITH THE INFORMATION THEY HAVE....DO NOT PROVIDE THEM WITH ANY OF YOUR INFORMATION.
- Sumanaweera replies to Receiver12I got the same msg & I call the number 1-800-656-5692. went to an answering machine. asked me to leave a msg, case # & ect ect.. this is the 1st time I'm sharing this type of info..
THank you all the good ppl who share these information thru the web, so that innocent ppl can survive from those scamers.... - CR| 2 repliesReceived same message as others on this feed. Did not call them back as I knew someone would not legally attempt to contact me like this.
- Alfalfa replies to CR| 1 replyThe Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:
•is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
•refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
•asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
•exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.
If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:
•Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.
•Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.
•Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft – charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.
•Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate – but you think the collector may not be – contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.
•Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.
http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0258-fake-debt-collectors - DBI got the same message on my cell phone. No name for who they were calling, said it is about a possible returned item from my checking account, guy said his name is Jeremy Stein, wants a call back, etc. I actually Googled the number and got the same realty company in Port Arkansas, Texas. I also put his name into Google and got a Harvard Economics professor pop up under all the results. He resigned a Fed position and went to teach at Harvard. Nothing about a lawyer or a debt collector or anything under the name Jeremy Stein. Definitely a scam. A true debt collector gives the name of the person they are looking for, gives the name of the company they are working for, is positive (or acts like they are) that the debt is a true debt, you can find them in an online search, etc...
I had debts on my credit report and I paid them off. Some had called me about them and I made arrangements to pay them in full even after they wanted to let me off with a settlement amount. If I owe the debt, I will pay it. But this guy is too vague to be true.
Apr 3, 2014 - Jeremy C. Stein submitted his resignation Thursday as a member of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System, effective May 28,
E-mail: jeremy_stein@XXXXX.XXX. Tel: 617-XXX-XXXX. Address: Department of Economics Harvard University Littauer, Room XXX. Cambridge, MA - JFI got the same message on my cell phone.!
No name for who they were calling, said it is about a possible returned item on my checking account. Said his name is Jeremy Stein.
Googled the number and got the same realty company in Port Arkansas.
This is a scam.!- Call type: Debt collector
- bradMessage starts off with
"This is a legal attempt to contact Jeremy Stines representing a attorney about a unpaid item stemming from my checking account.."..... I called the number 800 65 65692 and got a hold of someone that took forever to find my so called file.
the scary part is they so much info on me it was almost believable. The Law firm was Hawthorn Redmon Mediation, these [***] need something else to do.
No self respecting person would do this to another individual- Caller: Hawthorn Redmon Mediation
- Call type: Debt collector
- Allison PorterAutomated message on my answering machine stating that this was an attempt to Contact" --- silence --- etc etc same as above. Did NOT return the call. Obviously a scam since my bank would call me about a returned item or an issue with account. Not this dude. Dumbass.
- Caller: Jeremy - no company stated
- Ed LawsonI google the number (800)-656-5692 an address 6877 Texas 361, Port Aransas, TX 78373 in google maps and is an empty lot on the side of the road. SCAM
- Caller: Hawthorn Redmon Mediation
- Call type: Debt collector
- LenThese people are unbelievable! I am filing complaints. They want your bank account information claiming they are calling from this number in regard to legal action on a returned check. I never had a check returned and when you call the number to get more information as to who they are they just hang up on you.
Report them! Stop them now!- Caller: Hawthorne Redmond Mediation
- LDI am getting calls on a daily basis from the "debt collector". Same scenario as above posts but today they amped it up, still with silence where my name should be given, no more mention of Jeremy Stein but now they are threatening to serve my home or place of business within 24-48 hours if I don't call them. I haven't called them but saw a previous post of someone who had and was amazed by how much I formation they had. ALOT of that information can be obtained through public record and a few months back I had a similar issue with a "debt collector" who knew my daughters name, my ex husbands name, etc which I assume came from public record when we divorced. Don't be fooled by this so called "debt collector". Any legitimate collection company would send you notification through the mail first and foremost. And the fact that they're calling without identifying who they're trying to reach.....SCAM, SCAM, SCAM
- Call type: Debt collector
