Great information. Who are they?

This appears to be a phishing scam to get your personal information for fraudulent purposes.  Auto message asks for you to input your birthdate to verify identity. Don't do it!  It claims to be from Paypal Bll-Me-Later, but I have never had such an account.  I called Paypal direct immediately, and they said they had not tried to reach me, and my account was current.

One of these parasites woke Keyser up the other day and pestered him, so Keyser is assembling a detailed biography and dossier on every individual person associated with the company that made the call and, once prepared, Keyser will begin to...well, you know Keyser...

These folks are PayPal credit trying to collect payment on an account.  They claim to be able to demand $$ by phone as part of the contract/agreement that was signed when the account was opened.

They must not know that some states (mine included) advise consumers to NEVER give out money over the phone; however PayPal says they do not bill on paper.  Suspicious?  Perhaps: especially when the young lady answering the phone placed me on "hold" for a few minutes - I had informed her that the 800 number was flagged as a possible scam and that my state consumer fraud division (plus a number of media outlets) put out a statement to not give out money to folks who call on the phone.  She claimed to fetch a manager but came back on (glory be...no manager) with the line about how the payment could indeed be demanded over the phone.

I've had this number start calling me recently out of the blue. I never answer calls from numbers I don't know, and they never leave a voice mail so I continue to not answer. To the best of my knowledge, I don't owe PayPal any money (I don't use them) and had never heard of 'BillMeLater' until I read through this thread.

So, seems like a scam.

I did not pick up the call. They did not leave me a voice message.

PLEASE SHARE THIS. Almost everyone has an Ebay & Paypal Account. Check to see if you also have PAYPAL CREDIT formerly BILL ME LATER. If you do, I SUGGEST CLOSING THAT ACCOUNT. Are you getting an automated phone call from 800-684-4340 asking you to make a payment by phone? Please logon to your PayPal Account & look for PayPal Credit. This is not a prank call, it is a collection agency. 2 of my ebay purchases ended up on PayPal Credit. I can only assume it was a computer glitch because I have everything set up in PayPal to hit my paypal balance, bank or credit card. PayPal Credit refunded only one late fee of $35. Their rules are 1 late fee refund, per customer, per year. After 2 frustrating phone calls, 1 e-mail, & several messages through FB I paid the balance & closed the PayPal Credit account. If you have a PayPal Credit account even with a zero balance I suggest that you close it. Mine had had a zero balance for at least 4 years then all of a sudden, I'm getting calls from a collection agency. I did not get a statement or an e-mail just the automated phone call that sounded like a scam.

I received a call from this number yesterday and didn't answer because I didn't recognize the number. They didn't leave a voicemail so I looked up the number on line to find out who it was. If it's Bill Me Later/PayPal to collect money, like some have said, then they called me in error because I don't owe them any money. All  of my bills are paid. If I do owe them money (possible if they didn't bill me) then they better send me a bill.

This is a robot dialer asking for personal information.  Paypal Credit is owned and managed by Synchrony Bank.  This is an attempt to commit fraud.  Synchrony Bank would never ask for a birthdate or any other information over the phone.  If you received this call you may report it to synchrony bank and/or report the number to consumer.ftc.gov or  fraud.org.  If you have a way to block phone numbers on your phones, do that as well.

I get numerous calls on my cell from this number.  It's always a recording saying it's a call for Chris Gerardi -- obviously a wrong number.  then since I don't answer, they leave a voice mail.  Anybody know how to block this number?

This number was blocked by nomo so that's all I need to know.

Okay, I've tweeted @paypalsecurity in order to determine who the heck this really is.  Now they want me to direct message me with the phone number in question.  Heck, I tweeted them several times with the phone number 8006844340.  I'm glad the number is on nomo's SHEET list.  Called again this morning.

It actually is paypal credit. I was asked by a robot for my birth date, but hit the # sign instead. I got an operator, and told her i wasn't going to give out any info. She gave me a phone number to call (888-334-6220) that I could verify, and she suggested I log into paypal to see if there were any messages. I then called paypal to find out what was going on, and they forwarded me to a paypal credit rep. Apparently I was accidentally set up with a paypal credit line (airline agent did it by accident) and was used to pay for a flight. It was pass due. I was able to pay the bill and get the fee waived, and then closed the credit account.

This phone number has called my cell number at least once a day for the last two weeks.

Comenity Bank are the people who collect for PayPal's ex-Bill Me Later if you're late paying your minimum due.

They also do collections for Lane Bryant and Woman Within accounts.

I get about 4-5 calls a day on my cell. I have it blocked. If you don't have the ability to block it from a cell, Vonage allows you to block 25 numbers.  Because it's a debt owed, according to the agreement they legallyhave the right to call you and bypass "do not call" lists when trying to collect. They just can't call work numbers.
