- K.Douglass HopkinsMultiple calls from this number saying I am a reference on someone's Sallie Mae loan. I don't recognize the name and no one has asked me to be any reference. I am also on the do not call registry so need this robo-call prosecuted.
- Caller: "Sallie Mae"
- Bill BoydThe so called Sallie Mae keeps calling and reference a Megan "undecernable.. Lets put a stopto them. Nothing but a scam
- Caller: PHONY SALLIE MAE
- Call type: Debt collector
- BarryI think they may be somewhat legit. She asked me for an account number but that might just be what they do to pull up info. I told her it would not be in reference to any account that I have with them and that they called and left me a message regarding someone that had used me as a reference. She was able to tell me the name of the person who was an ex girlfriend from several years ago who is almost definitely unable to scrounge up enough money to pay a loan back between her and her current boyfriend's min wage jobs. I definitely wouldn't give them any additional information but they did not press me for any and the lady who I spoke with was very polite and stated that she removed my number from the ex's listing. I will update this if I receive any additional calls but I would agree that this appears to be legit skip-tracing.
- Caller: Sallie Mae
- Call type: Debt collector
- marcia cogdilli am completely unfamiliar with this company and do not wish to be called by them
- Caller: sallie mae
- TABLike the messages above, I got their voice mail twice. Second time I answered. Someone with a very thick Indian accent asked for my SS #. I refused. Connected me with a woman...thicker accent. Would not answer my questions. Asked again for my SS #, then wanted my account number. I told them that I was giving them neither and ended the call. Don't they know we are getting wise to this sort of scam? I pity the people who get duped with this sort of activity. Can the government do nothing. They know I am getting these calls since THEY are listening. Disturbed!
- Caller: "Sallie Mae Student Loans"
- LouMy daughter & I both have Sallie Mae loans. I do auto deductions for repayment so they
have no need to call me. My daughter is still in school so is exempt from re-payment until she leaves school or graduates. Sallie Mae has no reason to call her either. Got a message from this number identifying themselves as Sallie Mae with "calling for-------(no name was supplied)". I called the official number I have for Sallie Mae and the first thing they ask for is my account number, not social security number. All our a ccounts are just as they should be. 800-766-7242 is not Sallie Mae. Beware of ANYONE asking for your SS number over the phone and report unsolicited calls immediately!- Caller: Not Sallie Mae!!!
- dmountWell, they left a message for my 88 year-old father-in-law who passed away a year ago saying his name was on a student load document so that should answer the legitimacy question.
- Sallie mae can go scratch replies to EmilyI don't care what it is. When people ask you to leave them alone, you should probably heed the warning. Not a good way to drum up new customers if you treat them this way. Stop Calling. If you get the wrong person, update your file so you don't harass the same individual day in and day out.
- OlafAnother harassing call claiming to be my good friends at Sallie Mae, only they're bothering my parents, trying to find me. How I managed to vanish from these idiots is a mystery to me. I was getting constant robocalls from another SM number, and I solved the problem by blocking it, apparently erasing any info they had on me, both through the mail and by phone. Instead of sending mail at my residence, where I've been harassed by them for 10 years, they're sending mail to my dad. I returned their mail with "refused" written on at, and must've ruined all communication via mail.
My dad will not answer or respond to their calls and my mom got tired of it at her place so she took one.
She said she knew me but that was all, and she was uncomfortable giving this foreign gentleman info over the phone. She said he was caught off guard when she said she could not help them. This bozo then asked for her SS number, which she told him she was not about to give him. They've left both of them messages claiming their names are listed as contacts on my loan. Given time, those scumbags can find virtually anyone from a series of numbers, yet they're harassing my parents, trying to find me? Get with the program you bozos.- Caller: Sallie Mae
- Fed UpThese people call several times a week. They claim to be Sallie Mae, but I have never done business with Sallie Mae. Tried to call them back and got another recorded message telling me to call them back. Baloney. Best thing is to report the number to the DO NOT CALL service at 888-382-1222, and to your State Attorney General's office for telemarketing and telephone fraud complaints.
- Caller: Pretends to be Sallie Mae
- Call type: Debt collector
- Patty GobleGot a call from this number today saying i was a reference on someone's student loan, i asked those i know who are students if they listed me and they said no and even if they had why would they call me. Said they were open from 8AM to 9PM and to please call them. I feel they should of at least said who they were with if they wanted me to call back.
- CarolGot a call from them today. Did not call back. This is not the way companies ask for references. Not with a computer voice on an old landline with your name mangled. And friends always clear it first. Not a blind call.
- Caller: Sallie Mae
- Almost ScammedWe received a a call from this # saying it was in reference to a Sallie Mae loan. They also called my neighbor at another phone home When we called back 1st thing they asked for was my SS and phone #. Then they said there were calling about my daughter and also wanted her phone # and address. I informed them they should have all this info on file if they are truly Sallie Mae. When I asked them for their name and location, they gave me "Timothy 14 line 835" & put me on hold. Strange waited a few and finally hung up Do not give out any personal information especially your SS#!!!!! This is definitely a scam from 800-766-7242
- Caller: Sallie Mae
- bacalocThe calls started with them not leaving a message. I don't have a loan. Now they are leaving the message that my name was used as a reference for a Sally Mae Student Loan. No family or friend advised me that they were filing for a load and that they used my name as a reference. I don't answer the call and they keep calling. This is some sort of scam and I am not falling for it. They can call until they go out of business; I'll never answer the phone - I watch American Greed and I am not going to be a feature character on that show.
- Call type: Telemarketer
- Sallie May (now Navient) is bad... but,Seems like most feel this is a scam and not really Sallie Mae. If that's the case, then the caller isn't Sallie Mae, so I'm not sure why everyone is reporting it as such. My parents also received a call, and they said it was something about phone repair. Who knows, and fortunately my parents didn't help them.
That said, Sallie Mae (now Navient) is a pretty horrible organization. They 'service' student loans, but treat their 'customers' more like a vending machine. They try to stretch your payments as much as possible to maximize interest. They make it nearly impossible to pay off principal. They make it really hard for out-of-country people to make payments. They constantly try to get their 'customers' to pay-down their debt by BUYING other stuff from 'partners.' I even heard they were involved in some case, accused of ripping off military folks in regard to interest rates (I guess they settled for $97M). I'm guessing the name-change was at least in part to distance themselves from a horrible reputation.- Caller: Who knows...
- not easily fooledReceived three calls from this number this week - each time a different student name was given that I was a "reference" for but had never heard of any of them.
- Caller: "sallie-mae"
- Call type: Debt collector
- StopScammersI have been called a few times from this number they use a voice then ad with automated voice my name & say someone has listed you on a student loan for a reference. nobody has used me as a reference & yet they keep calling. I wont pick up OR call back scammers.
- Caller: student loan
- BoguscallerThis number dialed my business fax line. Fax number is clearly not associated with any student loans or valid contact number. Most likely phishing, use caution.
- ME2Similar to Boguscaller, they called a church looking for me in the town my parents live in saying I was listed as a reference for someone's student loan. My friends and family know better than to list me as a reference without letting me know. I called the number back of course I blocked my number and the voice mail said Navient. Regardless, I'm certain something isn't right and I will be warning my parents just in case they call them trying to get information.
