- G DuBoisComputer call asking for me to return their call. Looking for someone that supposedly gave my number and name for a reference. This person (the one they are referring to) doesn't know anything about this company. I have repeatedly asked them to quit calling me.
- Caller: Nadia Loan
- Appleton WIScam - multiple messages left claiming to be calling for a reference but no name for reference given.
- Caller: Claims to be student loan ref
- Jeff FLGetting harassed by this same number. Have been for over 6 months now. The call is for my wife under her maiden name and claims she is a reference on someones student loan. She is not and neither of us have any relatives in college.
Getting tired of daily calls from this number...- Caller: Toll Free Call
- HonestyIsTheBestPolicyNadia Called me a few times, left a message and had my name and that I was listed as a reference on a student loan and my caller ID displayed 800-SERVICE and I should return the call at 800-766-7242,for what I don't know....Looks like a scam because I checked Sallie Mae's website and these are the collection agencies they use and this number is not on there:
Contacting Collection Agencies
The Department of Education currently contracts with several collection agencies to administer many of the collection activities of our accounts. Only those accounts which fail to establish and adhere to a repayment arrangement are subject to assignment to a collection agency by the Department's Default Resolution Group. Those accounts assigned to a collection agency are assessed additional collection costs.
Collection agency employees are trained to comply with the terms of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act which governs collection practices by debt collectors. When the Default Resolution Group is notified in writing of complaints concerning our collection agencies, we review the evidence and take the necessary action to correct the situation.

- OhiodeeCalled said my husbands name and he'd cosigned on student loan, and to call them back. I hung up figuring it was a scam.
- Fed UpGet calls from this number at least twice a week. They have my name. Recorded message that I am listed as a reference for someone applying for a student loan. This is a SCAM.

- charlie replies to EmilyInteresting. I just received an e-mail from a person I know from a community board that we both sit on. He told me he had received a call from rachel Thomas at navient (on his cell phone) looking for me. She asked him for my contact info. He said no becasue he does not know who she is. This man's name does not appear on any account I have anywhere. I was told by Doug Hopper from navient that it is completely legal for the skip tracing department to call anyone it thinks may be known to you in order to reach you. So, I suppose any person who is mentioned in any newspaper article or any other google-able search is eligible to be contacted to see if he knows where the person navient is trying to contact is. Amazing, this isn't illegal.
- LRayI have received calls from this number for months, asking to speak to a person who does not live here. I finally called them back and told them this and asked to be removed from their list. He said it would take few days but my number would be removed. We shall see. I couldn't understand the person I spoke to and hope he understood me.
- Caller: Nadia servicing student loans
- KFI got a message saying "you're listed as reference of someone's student loan. please call us back at 800 766 7242". Plausible as there are multiple student loans in family. I called back and heavily accented voice asked for my SSN saying they were updating the student loan information. After a couple of minutes, it seemed more and more fishy. Won't accept or return future calls, if any.
- Dudne1| 1 replyNaviant Student Loan called wanting info on someone we know...we are a "reference" on their loan. We had no info to give and I asked them not to call again. Navient is being investigated for multiple potential lending law violations by the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.

"For example, Cordray’s agency (Federal Consumer Bureau) has found examples of student loan specialists charging illegal late fees, misleading borrowers about their minimum monthly payments, processing payments in a way that maximizes late fees, and harassing borrowers with late-night or early-morning calls in violation of federal law."
We are not the debtor, they had their one call, they are known to be law breakers, so I blocked their number.- Caller: Navient

Do not answer 800 numbers
Got unsolicited call from 800-776-7242
Call disturbed my peace of mind - dorothysaid my name & gave their number and hours to call back in & then hung up .Know nothing about who or what they are
- "a reference"Don't answer 800 numbers, figured if legit they will leave a message. The message was that I was listed as a reference for a student loan and please call 800-766-7242. I did call back because I know a friend's daughter who might have listed me, although thought that she should have asked first. She has done some work for me and is very responsible so I called the number back. I knew the name they mentioned very well as my former step-daughter, so my number may well have been listed over a decade ago. I told them in no uncertain terms that I would never loan money to her as she owes money to so many, including numerous student loans, skips out and never pays her debts and hung up. She knows how to work the system and has received free money, grants, etc and loans which she never seems to pay back. Her bankrupcties don't cover her student loans, so she stayed in school forever. Several years ago I used to get phone calls regarding her student loans and they needed a way to contact her. I had no idea what her address or phone number was and wasn't the least bit interested in knowing it. But I did give them the name of her website and told them that with their resources I was sure they could find a way to make contact.

- JustinCase replies to Tindall| 2 repliesBe AWARE--If you so much as even KNOW a borrower, these idiots will harass you. You don't have to be on the loan to be bothered by SM/Navient, they go to extremes to find and bother friends, relatives, and even neighbors trying to find someone. Avoid all calls with Navient if possible.
