This caller claims to be a debt collector, call multiple times a day to my husbands cell phone. I called them today and they refused to give me any information without me giving a dob and social security number! I will not give that info to a stranger, they also refused to remove the number from their call list until we settle our debt but again, no info given until I give a social security number.... Well, the can't tell me who you are collecting for so you get no info so enjoy talking to the voice mail.

This number keeps calling me but they never leave a message and when I call back to them they only want my SS#.  I refuse to give them that and ask if they can use my phone number they said no.  They are very rude and have called me a deadbeat.  I have only 1 account in collections due to a move and the account was out of sight out of mind.  After this very embarrassing situation I checked my credit report to make sure there were no more surprises out there and I don't owe anyone else.  I even verified my account with the collection agency and the original creditor and these people still call me.  Is there anything I can do to end this?

Portofolio has been bugging me for years. They stop for a while until a new collector is hired. I know how it works as I worked for a Debt Collection Law Firm. They re=cycle really old debts or even non debts, and make it look new. Plus, I asked them years ago to send me the information showing who I owed it to(they didn't even know), I never got it. They claimed they sent it. So, I gave them the address of my Trustee. I told them we would be glad to pay if they could prove I owed it. Of course, we never received anything.

Once Grant Weber(medical) was bugging me about a Radiologist bill which my Insurance had paid. Turns out they got the wrong box......duh!

HERE IS HOW  TO STOP THESE CALLS..............REPORT THE COMPANY TO THE ATTORNEY GENERAL OF THE STATE THE COMPANY IS IN. EVER SINGLE STATE HAS VERY STRICT COLLECTION LAWS............USE THE LAW!

BY THE WAY, PORTFOLIO IS THE MOST REPORTED OF ALL OF THE DEBT COLLECTORS/SCAMS...........TIME TO SHUT THEM DOWN!!!!!

BS you're a troll for The Portfolio Scum. No Judge will issue a warrant for failure to appear with no proof of service especially in a civil matter. A criminal court is where this happens. Also a warrent is not enforced acrossed state line. Get real you must think we are fools.

have to answer you, if a debt is brought up in a court it is a small claims cout and  can not be used as criminal case, the only thing that can be done is it can be placed as a lean, but to do this the creditor has to show that the debt was active, and was on a steady paperwork to be gotten, these people have no leg to stand on,there is no debtors prison in the usa, and these scammers can do nothing but make you scaredm you can get a lawyer, and go after them for slander and sue them,

I usually laugh at them and tell them that I do not owe that and they try to argue and sometimes try to threaten me with IRS reporting. I tell them to go ahead because the IRS is not a collection agency. When I told my friend who works for the IRS, she laughed her butt off. A lot of them have attitudes and tell me I have the wrong information and ask me where I got my information and I say, The Fair Credit Reporting Act and they tell me I am wrong. They say that I still owe that and I say no and that a credit card is an unsecured loan so they have to just suck it up. I don't know why they insist on calling me, then the guy has the nerve to ask if I want to pay on my debt and I say, "tell your boss to kiss my ass." Such scammers. One thing that you can do is file a report to the FTC and they will help, esp if they get a lot of complaints.

NEWS: If anyone calls you telling you that you owe a debt from over 7 years or more, tell them that they are in violation of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act and do not argue with them. Just get whatever info you can, name, supervisors name, state they are operating from and then go to http://www.consumerfinance.gov and file a complaint with the FTC. I have helped the FTC close down several scam places and they will do something. Be pro-active so they do not victimize other people. It is time we looked out for each other and it is sickening how these places prey on those who do not know where to go or the elderly. Please pass this along on you FB, twitter or whatever you use to warn people about places like this.

They keep calling me on my company cell phone. This debt is since 2005, and they keep mailing payment plans. I think this time I get a bill from them, I will circle the statement from them that say's, due to the age of this debt, we cannot sue you or garnish you. I will warn them the next time they call my cell phone, I will sue them for harassment while on the job.

Credit card debt cannot end up in a bench warrant being served. They cannot file criminal charges against you for not paying on a credit card debt.

The only people who want you to believe criminal charges will result in not paying a debt are the shifty debt collection agencies.Credit card

File with the BBB - this gets them every time! If they are passed the SOL they cannot do this to you. That's what I plan on doing with this - and I just got done doing that for LVNV funding - another junk debt processor.

This is the correspondence I got from LVNV through a BBB complaint:

Because the account has an off bureau date as less than 30 days, we will stop reporting to the three major consumer reporting agencies during the next reporting cycle.  Please allow 30-45 days for these updates to occur.

My 14 year old daughter has had her cell phone for 2+ years.  She has received at least 1-2 calls from Portfolio Recovery EVERY DAY for those 2+ years.

I'm assuming the previous owner of her cell number must be the one they are looking for.

Learn to read shill! Predatory Cowards disguised as debt collectors spreading their disinformation to abuse, exploit, and deceive the elderly, vulnerable, children, and the uninformed. This thread doesn't explain their even worse transgressions applied to people disguised as "just doing their jobs" under even more deceptive and unfair business tactics, procedures with all their non-disclosure calls. This is a predatory and cowardly network incapable of professionalism or knowing what the term business ethics means. May the great eagle s**t on your business!
