caller left a message stating that his name was Jon Smith & has an important business call in which he presumed I was aware of, however did not give the name of the person whom he was calling for and he left a file # and phone # of 1-800-835-8985 through research on the 800#, it appears to be a collection agency which has dialed my number in error, if calling continues a complaint will be filed with the ftc.- Call type: Debt collector
- mary| 2 repliesThey've been calling me for the past few months now and I figured they would stop if I just ignored the calls. But they haven't...so how do I get them to stop?! I filed a complaint with the federal www.donotcall.gov website today. Is there anything else I can do?
- Dude"Mr. Sanchez" just called me and left this number for me to call him back "in reference to complaint number ..." It seems like a hoax to me because he left so little information and, as stated by howard 8/14/07, the caller presumes that the reference file number means something to me.

The low-down on these lowlifes:

I've read countless stories about these types of collection agencies, and there are enough of them around. One thing these agencies could bother to practice (besides FDCPA laws) is to MAKE ABSOLUTELY SURE that the person you are calling is ACTUALLY THE DEBTOR!!
You can't squeeze the proverbial blood out of turnips, especially if you are picking the wrong crop. - debt collector 101| 8 repliesIf you were responsible enough to pay your bills, there would only be wrong number calls. telephone info is researched and shuffled. You might receive calls from plenty of agencies, advice is don't take a number to pass to JR, just say wrong #. Instead of being a irresponsible American, pay what is owed. If you don't pay for goods or services it is called stealing(look at the financial institutions now). There is no statue to collect a debt ask bud hibbs that. you just don't want to pay for services rendered because it was a long time ago. fdcpa is fully complied. PAY YOUR BILLS!!! Research civil judgements

Have you ever wondered what scum was really like? This agency may fit that profile. Loud-mouthed debt collectors who appear to have never read an FDCPA training manual will threaten you with almost any type of act that results in a payment to them, including bogus threats of pending legal actions.
From their website...
"Our success is based on the collective experience, leadership and integrity of our people"
Duhhh! Mr. Debt Collector Kotula I think you flunked your 'mission statement'. Do you REALLY think anyone believes this web propaganda you published? Of course not! We all know it's b.s. put there by b.s.er's who believe their own b.s., cause EVERYBODY else who reads it KNOWS you are FULL of b.s.!
Stay far away from this group of moronic misfits and keep both hands on your money. Northeast has a LONG history of lies, threats and abuse.

- Debt Collections 3:16| 4 repliesFirst of all Bidd Hibbs is a disgruntled FORMER Collector who got fired because he was not able to do his job. So he thought he would spend his time bashing companies who do not deserve it. I agree some do but not most Budd Hibbs borders on practicing law without a license which IS illegal by giving very bad advice.
If you understand collections then you would know how it works and never have any problem with any collector who calls you. if you spent it, pay it back. There is NO limit on how long a debt can be collected, if a collection company that owns the debt tells you they are going to sue you they have to. in this day and age your have to pay your bills to ave any sort of financial life. collection companies collect billions every year in unpaid debts. but if you are nice to the collector the collector will be nice to you and try their best to help you and get it resolved. if they are still mean then get a supervisor but don't take a hit on your credit just because you didn't like how someone talked to you.- Caller: Commonwealth Financial

- Drew22 replies to Debt Collections 3:16| 1 replyDebt Collections what have you been smoking? "but if you are nice to the collector the collector will be nice to you and try their best to help you and get it resolved." I worked for one of these scumbag collections agencies (National Enterprise Systems) and the word "nice" wasn't even in their vocabulary. We were told to forget any customer service skills we had ever learned. We had to tell Debtors off-the-rip that a lawsuit had been filed against them. Many represented themselves as federal agents and attorneys. You have to be on the inside like me and Bidd Hibbs to see what really goes on at these hell holes that buy third party junk debts at 10 cent on the dollar. The debtors already inflated debt (collection agency fees) is often inflated even more by unscrupulous collectors and supervisors. An inflated $500 debt becomes an even more inflated $900 debt that we'll offer a 50 percent settlement on making it $450. Well, the original debt was probably $300. There's no validation. Even more downright criminal is when an agency settles say a $4,000 debt for $2,000 and tell the debtor the debt is paid-in-full only to sell the $2,000 that the debtor thought was taken off via settlement to another collection agency. So in time you'll be getting rude, nasty calls from another company saying you owe $2,000.

- Bud hibbs got me sued| 1 replyI listen to that Hibbs guy, thought the lawsuit stuff was bogus. I had a civil judgement placed against me, my property liened, and sheriff saled. I spoke to mainly idiots on the phone, but the last guy was nice and gave helpful info for the future. Commonwealth took my hog(cycle) but let me keep my car. I hate bud hibbs
- Frustrated Person| 1 replyIn reference to your comments, yes we are all aware that there are laws. But what if collectors take frustrations out and get smart is NOT PROFESSIONAL.. Especially when they are to get rude with the wrong people when they call. Yes we all have debt and we have to pay, but let me ask you this, if you lose your job, have 5 children to support and are trying to make it month by month, how do you do it since you know all the laws? I don't appreicate the fact that my parents received the phone call and they are highly upset as well as I am myself. So tell me...you obviously have all the answers...what do I do?

- mc replies to Bud hibbs got me suedI think you are one of the collectors trying to justify your ignorance.
Read that Fair Debt Collections Credit Act thing-- if it aint in there , it aint. If you got a civil judgement placed against you--this had to be done in a court,by a judge. If it was --you were issued a summons by that court. If you ignored the summons, you probably lost by default--if you went to court and lost--you were probably wrong.
What most people here are complaining about is that they are not the person who supposedly owes the debt. When the collection person is told this-they either call the person a lier or just ignore the person and continue to call--repeatedly. This is called harrassment--read that Fair Debt Collections Act thing--it is a FEDERAL LAW and you should really be aware of it. I moved to a different area code over two years ago and the new telephone number I was issued previously belonged to a person that must have really stuck it to a lot of companys.
I started getting phone calls for this person--I was nice at first and told the caller I was not who they were looking for even offering up my real name---they were axx holes so I went to work.
I recorded the caller ID and time.
I recorded the conversation(even told them I was doing it and they did not believe me)
I documented over 219 phone conversations, calls, hang-ups and otherwise harrassment calls.
I sued and won-big! I suggest everyone else in this situation do the same thing--a little patience and research pays off.
Here is the really odd thing--I checked my telephone number on line. Yup, it said it was me--but on another site, it listed the history of that phone number and sure enough-there was the guy they wre looking for.
Also checking the county files I found the guy had a record and even got a last known address--at least in the 2008 year. Do you think I'm going to give MY research information to the lazy scum bag collectors-HELL NO !!
I just collect evidence of violations of that Fair Credit Collections thing and sue !! It's really easy money. Sooooooo- to the lazy axx collectores out there--I know you have access to a common computer just as I do. Spend 15 minutes and at least try to confirm the phone number of the person you are seeking.(there are many, many sources) instead of relieing on outdated information. Get in there and dig a little guys and remember to read that Fair Debt Collections Act thing that is a FEDERAL LAW and quit trying to terrorize the good citizens of our good country--
'cause we'll get you !!!! - a professional debt collector| 2 repliesThe silliest thing of all is DEBTORS expecting "customer service" from debt collectors. Professionalism, yes. But, guess what? You STOPPED being a CUSTOMER when you STOPPED paying. Wrong numbers can be frustrating, sure. The real problem are the debtors who play games and claim wrong number when they are simply trying to get out of their LEGAL and ETHICAL responsibility to their creditors. To those of you who think that you can't be sued for an unpaid debt, I will gladly give you examples of people that I have sued through my company that have had their homes liened, their bank accounts frozen and drained, their wages garnished, and items sold at sheriff sale. Bottom Line: PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY, PEOPLE. IF YOU DON'T LIKE HEARING FROM BILL COLLECTORS, THEN PAY YOUR BILLS.
