I called back to (800) 895-4999.  Legitimate Xcel Energy phone.  Don't know why they called me.

Actual call from Xcel to tell me that they couldn't get a reading on my meter because of the snow and they had to estimate and will be reflected in next months bill--so legit.

Got a call tonight About turning our themostate down to 60. Is this legit?

I just got a call by this number but didn't answer. I heard on news tonight xcel is requesting everyone to turn heat to 60

Legit call about tree trimming.  Automated message left on VM.

Called me in I live in VA states they are my electric company which is Dominion and that I needed a meter exchange  and to pay money from a prepay card I believe they are scammers which called with the wrong
company # programmed in the caller id. I heard there is a lot of scams were they pass themselves off as the electric company and ask for money with a prepaid card!

It is a scam.  Your electric company won't call you and ask for payment immediately - especially not with a pre-paid card.  Glad you didn't fall for it!

Xcel Energy. Not a scam. They call me all the time to tell me that they're going to read meters. I manage properties so it happens all the time.
That isn't to say that some scammer hasn't spoofed their number, but this wasn't a scam--just a notice.

Totally legit.   Minneapolis MN Xcel Energy electric company recorded message about a power outage that I did indeed experience, and with an anticipated time that power will be restored.

Got a voice mail from this number the other day. Said they were "Xcel Energy", which is a CO electric company, but their service is actually not available in my area. The kicker: the recording asked for someone we do know, but that person has never lived with us, he has lived in another state for at least the last 20 years and when he did live in CO, we didn't have this phone number. We got this phone number when we moved 10 years ago to the area that Xcel doesn't even service.  Weird and creepy.
