they keep calling me from this number. Fraud

800-943-2189 called me with a collect call from a jail. you must have a credit card or bank debit card. I was expecting the call and had a $30.00 prepaid card ready to use. This was not enough. A minimum of $32.50 was required to except the call. This was to set up an account. It was $8.00 something hook up fee and .90 cents a minute. was unable to take a very important call. What a rip off....

This number called my cell phone.  Don't think I know anyone in jail and if I did I sure don't want to pay to talk to them!!!

I got a few calls from this number and I'd like to know what jail this is from.

they called me 3 time starting at 4am last night. I don't know of anyone in jail.

I received 2 calls from this number.  I didn't answer, but Googled it & found that it was from some NCIC Inmate Telephone System. I then knew that it was my cousin who was in jail awaiting trial.  I would've loved to have talked to her, but I know that those jail phone calls are extremely expensive, so I won't be accepting any calls from this phone number.

i just got a call from this 800-943-2189 and it was my dad, but he just called from his celll phone saying he was just kidding! but i want to know if this is a real thing or not!

2 or 3 times a day i get the same calls wanting me to accept a collect call from a correctional center from an Ottis Ryan,i deny it.I;m so tired of getting these calls.I looked up the name on the web,and it showed that he was arrested for killing babies at a daycare. Oh my God!

I received a call at 4 AM yesterday.  When I called back today, the number said that an inmate in jail was trying to reach me but I don't know anyone in jail.

NOT TRUE !!.  They won't tell you who is calling.  They only offer for you to set up an account.  Maybe after you have given them the $32.50 (non-refundable) you might be able to find out who it is.  Basically a scam.

I just received a call from this number at 9:45PM on a Sunday night (Nov 28th, 2010).  An automated message came on that said that this was "MCI Operator assistance calling from a (undiscernable) jail with a collect call...if you want to accept this call, press 1, now."   I just hung-up.  The first thing I thought of is "Didn't MCI go the way of the Sega Genesis?"  lol.  There hasn't been an MCI for about 15 years...they were spun-off into "WorldCom," which subsequently folded due to executive management embezzlement...so the perps need to get a better story than than.  This is undoubtedly a scam, and I have reported the number it to my state's Atty General.
