Just got a call from this number on my cell. WTH is up with that?  Its one thing to get an unwanted call on your home phone cuz' its a publicly published number, but your CELL?! Its ridiculous!

I know, right! MCI doesn't exist anymore. I pressed 2 to deny it. Hopefully I didn't cause any charges on my phone but I called my cell phone provider right away. They've blocked the number.

My son called saying he was detained for being drinking in a bar -underage. Later on, from this # we got a call saying that we needed to pay in advanced with a credit or debit card in order to receive calls from him. It might be a scam or it might not... I wish there is a norm that states from where are people calling.

It's not a scam, I work within the criminal justice system and have to accept calls like this everyday. Also, the MCI number is legit as well, it's a different company that does prison calls.

DO NOT GIVE THEM YOUR CREDIT CARD INFO.  THIS IS A SCAM.  YOU WILL BE VERY DISAPPOINTED.

received a call from 800-943-2189 - said it was a collect cal from then a mumbling unintelliglible sound - figured it was a scam call...

Have gotten several calls in one day and for several days, even on Sunday.  Have not answered, the number is listed on my cell phone.  I consider the harassing!

I received a call from this number on my work cell number ...sounds like a load of bunk to me... i do not know anyone in a correctional facility and if a company does not provide more detail of it's service or purpose during a solicitation like this then as far as I am concerned it is a SCAM...So I would say do not answer or hang up if you do.

We got a collect call from " Rachel " from this number. First of all, why call collect if you have an 800 number ? duh

I work with a bail company Smith Bonds & Surety. This number belongs to a company that is used by certain jails. If you know someone who was arrested. Most likely they are trying to call you to help them get out. The person who is calling is an inmate in jail. They are probably calling either A) a number they can remember and maybe off a number or two or B) it's an old bail bondsman/Attorney number they have that is no longer good and unfortunately you now have the number. The reason it is asking for money is the jails do not give out free calls so they outsource it to several different companies. If you do deny they call they will not charge you anything. Just make sure you hear the person's name before you answer it.

This was a legitimate call. They had called me & another relative. We found out a loved one needed our help. Yes they want a deposit before speaking with your friend.......
