Nasty Rude and disrespectful... called staing that they were the IRS and that i was being audited.  When I questioned them woman became rude and disrespectful. I told her that the IRS only sends audited via postal service.  She began mocking me and telling me that my check was going to be garnished in 30 if i didnt pay approx. $1500.  This call is a fraud.. Do not entertain them, they will try to get al of your personal information theough the phone.

One time call... but I bought a call blocker 2 years ago. $50 for mine. ATG calls from an 800 #. I have all 800 #'s, Out of Area, Area code 904, Unidentified calls, etc., etc. blocked also. Once it got cranked up, there's been "NO" telemarketing calls from anyone for a year now... and only a few before that. I suppose they began to think about it and stopped selling/trading my # between themselves..

If they are calling on your cell phone, download WhitePages ID.  This is one of those apps that catches 99.9% of these bogus calls, and I have our home phone forwarded to my cell.  It's FREE and I have never had an issue with it.  It also tells you if calls are "scam" or "fraud". Then YOU decide to block them permanently.  The next time this number calls, WhitePages ID stops it from ringing on your cell.  If it's going to a landline, I have no solution for you. :(

Best ways to deal with them:
    A) Auto reject if they call on your cell phone.
    B) Cease and desist letter.  With a little research, you can find names and addresses on the internet.  CC the FTC and your local Atty. General's office, as Lisa mentioned.
    C) File a complaint at FTC.gov.  It's not just getting them on a database.  I have found that filing complaints has cut down on the number of scammy calls I get.  Used to be dozens a day, now I'm surprised if I get one a week.

Received a call from this number, did not pick up, no message left.  Another number from another scammer, it seems like.  If you can help it, never answer a call from a number you don't recognize.  They do stop calling, eventually... but new numbers will pop up.

Really good information shared on here- thanks to everyone who contributed.  We stick together, we can beat this.

ATG credit collectors, keep calling me for a medical bill gone to collections. they claim they keep sending me notices in the mail, which i tell them they are not since i am the only person that gets the mail. have confirmed the mailing address with them numerous time. told them i will not give any money since i dont know they are legit or not and since i don't receive mail from them, they must not be. asked if they could send something via email or fax, said they couldn't since it's in collection. tried to come to another solution with them and the man just said " well you just call the hospital and talk to them since you can't pay your bills!" and hung up on me. i called them back 20 times in a row for being rude to me and demanded to speak to a supervisor, the same man picks up every time and instantly puts me on hold every time. one time i sat for 45min. on hold knowing he knew it was me on hold. I called the hospital the bill is due for letting them know the issue, i still have heard nothing from anyone but ATG. no one wants to help me settle the bill, guess no one  gets their money.

The law states that they must send you a letter in the mail.  The law also states that they not only have to prove that you owe the debt, but that they have the legal right to collect it. You do not need to do anything to see if you owe money.  They want you do go around and waste your time, hoping that you will eventually give up and pay them.  It seems that you do not know how debt collection is supposed to work, so I suggest that you start here and educate yourself, and while there file reports on what is obviously criminal activity by this alleged debt collector:

Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) postmarked within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt.  It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes.  The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.

Read up on your rights here and also make a complaint at this government site:  http://www.consumerfinance.gov/

Also file a complaint with your State Attorney General's office.
List of State AG’s offices:   https://800notes.com/faq/attorney-general

You should also make use of the information that CWG40 has posted on page 3 of this thread and do this:

You need to send them a certified, return receipt debt validation letter (think of it as the best $6.47 you ever invested).  Also send it first class mail in case no one will sign for it.  Make a notation of that fact at the bottom of the letter.  You also need to report them to the proper agencies to which I have provided links to.  Then you need to go out and get a consumer lawyer to sue them on a contingency basis (no money out of your pocket) and let them pay you for the harassment.  If everyone did these three things, these crooks would be bankrupt and we would all be the richer for it.  Use these web sites to find an attorney in your state that will probably take the case on a contingency basis (no money out of your pocket up front):  http://www.consumeradvocates.org/

They call and won't leave the reason why they are calling. If someone else answers the phone, they won't even give that person the reason why they are calling. It's so annoying and harassing
