This automated phone number targeted my phone several days ago. In addition, I had reported them to the Do Not Call.gov and entered my phone number for the Do Not Call. This had been done 5 times on each. This is a scam, never heard of GTL. That phone number calls my house every 20 minutes and it will go one until I unplug my phone. When I am home and the phone rings I immediately, unplug the phone and the cycle begins, again. Please do not press any prompts or you belong to them forever...You would think with all the complaints on the national level that the government would step up and proceed with criminal prosecution. I will continue to utilize the Do Not Call, until I hear from the Feds. Hello, Feds, where are you and quit sitting on our complaints!!!

This is a recorded call from Global Tel Link. Global Tel Link is the phone system for prison systems. The caller ID only shows Kearns, UT 18017580647. If you listen to the recording it is explained that an inmate at a specific institution is attempting to call you at your telephone number. You will receive several future calls. You are instructed to answer the call if agree to receive the call from the inmate. If you choose not to receive the call you are directed to call 18002310169 to speak to customer service for declining.

If my caller ID had shown Global Tel Link, I would have answered the call. With the current displayed information I presume that the caller is a telemarketer, so I don't pickup.

So, if you have someone incarcerated in a prison system you should probably listen to the recording and respond appropriately.

We have been getting these calls for a couple of weeks. They don't say anything. They remain silent for a few seconds and then hang up. It's getting ridiculous.

I  can't leave my phone off the hook because my husband and I have children and we both have eldery parents who may need to get through. The phone company is useless. Cop don't have the jurisdiction because it's never clear exactly from where the calls are coming.

I'm really tired of it and want it to stop.

my fiance is in Ohio, and I get the same call. it IS GTL's automated message to put you on someones call list (in my case my fiance).

Call the phone company, home phone or cell phone and have the number blocked.

when i called the number back it said it was global, and that i had a block on the phone and i needed to call my phone co. to get it taken off

Automated garbage about some inmate in an ohio correctional facilty.Calls all times of day or night.we work early and sleep early.woke me and made me late for work .I think I will sue!!!!!!

Call the FCC at 1-888-225-5322. They have a line for harassing phone calls.

An automated voice on the other end of my phone said 'I wouldn't be charged for this call'. It then proceeded to tell me (I prefer the word "threaten") I would be called - getting this same message - three times a day, for the next five days.

I have many issue with this, not the least is I have to push ONE to hear English.

After reading all the comments here, I too know someone in an Ohio Prison and I am going to assume it is them trying to reach out to me.

My daughter is getting calls on her cell phone which we just changed Monday a week ago from this number 801-758-0647. She gets them while in school so I can't listen to the recording. So whoever it is they are calling a wrong number now. But I did call the number 1-800-231-0189 posted in an earlier post today and I get a recording telling me to get a working line to call 101-515-8000 and at the end it gives another number 702-555-1212. This number looks fishy to me. I haven't called either one of them. Afraid it is a scam  or something.

I did call 801-758-0647 and I do get the Global Tel Link. Saying it a Women's and youth correctional in Ohio. The recording he says is that you will receive 3 calls a day for 5 days. Then they are suppose to stop. And if you wish to not receive these calls to call this number 800-231-0193. Now how many different numbers does that make in this? These are the numbers I have recorded from start to finish here and have called all. 800-231-0169 (LA Times Newpaper or magazine), 800-231-0189 and now 800-231-0193 (this one you get a recording that asks for the number you are calling about. Then says they are experiening high call volume. And will call you back in about 2 hours. I would like to know how they know my home number. I have an unlisted number that when I call somewhere I have to punch in a number in order for my call to be completed. The computer repeated my home number that I was calling from without me punching it in. So be careful when calling if you don't want them to have your number.) And my earlier post I had called 800-231-0189 and I get a recording saying to call 10 15 15 8000 (Busy Sound) to get a working line. And at the end says to also try 702-555-1212 (Directory Assistance. I hope this helps.

I keep getting these calls on my cell phone. It started a week ago.

This is not a scam.  Global Tel Link is a real company.  Your phone numbers get dialed becasue an inmate in prison put your numbers into the telephone to try to contact you.  It's not the company's fault, it is the inmates.  Maybe if you don't know someone in prison, another inmate entered a wrong number?

we have been getting them for over a week now..  we HAVE NEVER PICK UP THE PHONE..  due to area code 801 we don't accept them anyway !! but the calls continue to ring..  again we have never answered it..  i hope they stop in time since we don't answer,... i'm going to call verizon and see if they can block it..  worth a try.

me again i just now got off the cell phone with verizon.. they DID put a free block for that phone number on all 4 of my cell phones just in case they try calling one of my other 's..  it's good for 90 days.. verizon told me when they call me they will be told they are blocked! via a recording and it will not give them any of my info ..  it will not allow them to capture any of my info. otherwise i could have paid $4.95 for a permanent block for that number which does not expire in 90 days. but i went for the free one for now to see if it really blocks it and to see if they just give up calling me.   so time will tell.

I get 2 to 5 a day and this has been happening for almost a month

I've gotten several calls on different days from this number. My cell is usually off, so I don't know about them til I turn it on. Yesterday, I had 18 messages from this number - today's count was 8. All I can do is delete them & call my carrier to see if they can help, so I'm not charged for all of these unwanted calls.
