Received a call today.  We live in Pensacola, FL and several days ago sent our request to vote absentee.  I wondered why they asked for our phone number!

These are automated dialers, they have the option to show all 000-0000 when they use these phone lines. Various people do this, usually all political during elections, or loan companies.
I say --- if you are so ashamed to use a valid phone number, then screw you.
I have caller id and just don't answer when I see them.

the phone rings, but when you answer it nobody is there. So frustrating. Especially when they call late at night. I even have our phone number registered on the national do not call list! If anybody else has suggestions, please let us know!

First, (909) isn't the area code being discussed. So of course you reached sears when you did it with (909). So no, that's probably not helping. Second, There is a way right now for anybody that wants to, to spoof your caller ID.

David replies to how do you get 000-0000
They have area codes and prefixes information. Sometimes they pick an area code and prefix and start calling in computer order from 0001 to 9999. So in your case that's how they did it. Also, phone numbers get recycled allot. Which means someone may possibly had your phone number before you did.

This call is coming thru on a regular basis now. I don't answer it. If yoy're not willing to give your name, I'm not willing to use my cellular minutes to talk to you. If you're a political call I'm not willing to talk to you anyway!

Getting 2-3 calls a day from 813-000-0000!  No one on other end!  Most be an automated calling system.  Thanks to Caller ID, I now refused to answer anytime this number comes up.
What ever happened to the Do Not Call list?  We have been registered for over two years and we are still getting marketing calls from all over the country.

how do you spoof your caller ID if it's a cell phone?

Answering machine picked up, and didn't leave a message. It is likely sourced from some company that contracts out call center services (e.g. when you call technical support, or, when someone or a company wants telemarketing or political ad messages to go out via phone).

There needs to be a federal law that abolishes sending fake caller ID numbers over the public voice network (which is what is happening with this number). Contact the US Representatives and Congresspersons and raise a stink, and demand that a federal law be made to stop anyone from spoofing a phone number to the public phone network!!!
