Do consider getting a call blocking device or phone.. You can google them and many are around $40.00 or so.If its a cell phone, some already have call blocking, if not, there are free apps on the web that will work for some. You can google this. If you have a smart phone, there is a free app called call control. Iphones appear to have apps also. Another one is called Mr. Number.

- CWG40 replies to AndrewHindi accent is pretty much a dead giveaway. Also it's been on the news and calls have been recorded and played on the news. Hindi accent is pretty strong in most cases.
- CWG40 replies to RICKYSorry to hear that. This scam has been all over the news for years. Just can't understand how anyone would get a cold call threatening jail time saying IRS and then someone would simply hand over cash on their say-so. How is that even possible? I mean, you didn't even do some checking out on google?
As it stands now you've been "marked" as a pushover for a scammer.
Rule: Never send money to anyone you do not personally know.
Also. Do some research so you won't get caught in this sort of thing again.

Total scam. Originates in either India or Pakistan. Block and ignore. DO NOT RETURN THE CALL!

I’m an Enrolled Agent with the IRS (Inactive). IRS does not initiate contacts by phone. US mail only. IRS does not file lawsuits. Court action, if any is handled by the DOJ and all parties are entitled to legal assistance if it is a criminal matter. But--tax disputes are for the most part civil matters. 90% of all IRS tax disputes are settled administratively. IRS has absolutely no authority to call on local law enforcement for anything. Local law is never involved in IRS tax disputes. IRS does not threaten to involve local law enforcement or to arrest you for nonpayment of federal taxes. IRS has no powers of arrest. If LE is necessary, US Marshals do the job. IRS does not cold call anyone and demand immediate payment of money. IRS does not ask for financial information over the phone. IRS does not accept Green card money paks for payment in any case. No one is prosecuted for ordinary tax disputes. IRS has absolutely no authority over anyone's professional license. Professional licensing is handled by state governments. Yes, levies on property to satisfy an existing tax obligation do occur, but only after a very long period of negotiation. And yes, liens are placed on individuals but usually after a lot of negotiation and a failure to reach a settlement. All determinations of tax liability are subject to appeals. All contacts by the IRS are initiated by US mail.
Did you get all that?
Remember, no legitimate government agency is going to call you and tell you you are going to be arrested unless you send money to someone. It's a total scam. IRS doesn't arrest anyone for ordinary tax disputes. IRS has no powers of arrest. IRS does not sue anyone for tax deficiencies. No one is prosecuted for ordinary tax disputes.
Did these people tell you to send the money to a specific person? If so, would you post that person's name and address if you have it? Sometimes these overseas scammers use US mules.
. - CWG40 replies to RICKYMake a report to whoever sold you the financial instruments to pay these scammers. You won't get your money back, most likely, but you can inform others. Go to the media. Make a police report for fraud. Again not much the police can do but they can inform the community and maybe the media. If you used a CC or debt card go to the bank and see if the transactions can be reversed for fraud.
Also please remember that local police have nothing to do with federal tax issues and the federal government does not call on local police to do anything--much less enforce the federal tax laws.
You might try to learn something about the US constitutional system. That will help protect you against these kinds of scammers. - L.M.M - NYDennis Gray from 818-474-2200 with threatening phone call representing himself as US Treasury pursuing legal action against us.
US Treasury - please track down this individual and prosecute for fraud.
Will report to local police and state attorney general.- Caller: Represented self as US Treasury in Legal Action
- Call type: Debt collector
- RoseWell, I just got my first Treasury Dept warning phone call on Dec. 18. This Dennis Gray person didn't have an accent, as far as I could discern. Maybe the Hindi and Pakistani are outsourcing to the US? LOL. But the number has been blocked.
- Caller: "US Treasury"
- Call type: Prank
- WAHere's the text of the scammers' message:
"Hi. My name is [Dennis Gray / David Gray or Greg] and this message is intended to contact you regarding an enforcement action executed by the United States Treasury intending ?your serious attention / this year’s pension? Ignoring this message will be an intentional [second] attempt to avoid an initial appearance before a magistrate judge or grand jury for a Federal criminal offense. My number is [818-474-2200 (“Dennis”) / 404-404-1652 (“David”)]. I repeat, [phone #]. I advise you to cooperate with us and help us to help you. Thank you."
“Dennis” had an Indian or Pakistani accent; “David” had a faintly British one.
