- VDSSame as above. A call from Liz Waters, Citiserve, claiming to come to my residence between 3-5pm, then my work if I wasn't contacted, in front of a supervisor. Gave a callback number of 855-891-1408. Didn't waste my time call it. I don't owe anyone money. Total scam.

- LanceThe number they told me to call was (855)246-0395 and gave me a case number. Said it was Wells Fargo that was trying to get money back that I overdrew. In CA there is a statute of limitations of 4 years where someone can sue for debts. So this is complete BS.

- AmandaA woman called from "Citi Serve" looking to speak with my husband and tried to feed me the exact same line of b.s that others have gotten about needing to serve "legal documents" blah blah blah. I asked what it was in reference to and she said to call the "filing company, they'd be able to tell you everything" (866-727-0321) to which I advised her that her so-called legal documents were bogus and "legal documents" like that would need to be either sent through the mail or delivered by the constable. She then began rambling nonsense and I told her that if anyone were to show up on our property that they would be trespassing and the authorities would be promptly contacted and again if she had legitimate "legal documents" then she needs to advise the "filing company" to follow the appropriate protocol and to stop trying to screw people out of their money. Not surprisingly, she hung up.

- AngelI received a call yesterday from Melissa Morgan with CitiServe (on my phone at work) (unknown, blocked number), claiming she had a lawsuit to serve me, and that she would be coming between 3 and 5 tomorrow. She advised I needed a picture ID and a supervisor from work to witness that I was served. She stated that is I called 855-211-8508 that I could settle the debt, and the filing company would issue her a 'stop order' and then she wouldn't serve me. I worked for plaintiff's attorneys for years, and I know that process servers don't call ahead to notify defendants they are coming to serve lawsuits, etc - because they don't want the party being served to hide from them. I also have a Missouri number, but have not lived there in years. She advised she was in town of my former residence (1200 miles away from where I currently reside). I called 855-211-8508 and got the 'Mediation" department. The man who answered the phone advised that I had defaulted on a payday loan in 2012 and the amount owed was 800, but with the civil suit it would $2500. I could settle this for $800 and avoid legal fees. I have never borrowed a payday loan. I advised I would like to receive the paperwork and fight this in court. The next day Melissa called again. She claimed she had not heard anything from the filing company. I told her I preferred to be served, this was not my debt, and I was looking forward to fighting this in court. I then asked when I could expect her. She advised she was really busy today, so probably tomorrow between 3 and 5. I have alerted law enforcement (my office neighbor) to be on standby should anyone actually show up to 'serve' me with anything. What these goons don't realize is the statute of limitations to collect a debt in Missouri (where they claim the suit is filed) is 5 years - so the statute has already run on any payday loan debt borrowed in 2012.

- Notborn Yesterday| 1 replyGot a call from these guys (Citiserve / City Serve) They had called me months ago from a Houston-area phone number and had stopped, but started up again. Same schtick as others have commented. Some minimum wage lackey in a call center (not overseas--definitely within the U.S.A.) going on about some "important legal matter" that they have to discuss, but they can't tell me what it is--they gave me an 855-430-1099 phone to call. If I "don't resolve the matter" within a few days, they'll send someone to my address to serve me. (They have also been calling relatives asking for me and using this same script--total FTC violations.)
They bet on people not knowing the laws and feeling scared, but I do know the laws. I had a payday loan (only $200) back in 2011, which was paid off. They may have gotten my name from some database as it seems they usually call about past payday loans. Statue of limitations for CA is 4 years on payday loans--so, even if I had not paid in full I would still be well outside of the SoL. In fact, after I had paid in full, I wrongfully got payment reminder calls from the original payday loan company. Frustrated, I got a lawyer involved and sued and actually won a nice settlement for the call harassment. I actually don't mind if these scammers try to serve me--then I will finally have an address to sue them, too. Last time no one ever served me even though they said they had my current address. I expect the same this time. If anyone finally gets their address, I know a few class action lawyers eagerly waiting to help us out.
A process server would NEVER warn someone or tell someone that they're coming to serve them legal paperwork. (I know--I've dealt with successfully suing people in a few states and have dealt with quite a few legit process servers.) Also, a process server would definitely not call any phone number they could find--relatives and friends of the person included--to warn a person that they want to serve them. Process serving is all about ambushing and not calling attention to yourself. They bet on people not knowing the statute of limitations for credit collection and also not knowing how process servers work.
And, looks like other people are onto them: https://medium.com/@ljcpress/fake-process-server-scam-45fc126f1fb2- Caller: Citiserve / City Serve

- BigA replies to Notborn YesterdaySeveral corrections. It is not an FTC violation it is an FDCPA violation. The difference is that the FTC is an administrative agency and the FDCPA is an actual federal law. Yes they got your information from the Payday Loan place. Those places are nothing more then loan sharks (criminals) and the routinely make extra money by selling your info to other criminals such as this. Not one person has been able to tell me where that Statue is located, I would like to go see it one day. I have however been able to find the Statute of Limitations which is a law. The person that wrote that article you linked to provides no important and even relevant information, they are simply ranting that they received a call from someone, and I am not even sure how it ties into this group, unless you think for some reason there is only one group running this scam.
- BigA replies to HateScammersCorrection to this very old post. The FDCPA does not and has never allowed for a statutory "per violation" award.
