- Hamir| 1 replyLeft a message on my machine with some nonsense about a "Check Protest Claim." They may have said their company name, but it was garbled. Threatened me that legal action would soon be taken that I would not be able to reverse.
- Call type: Debt collector
- Rachel| 1 replyLeft an automated message saying their company will soon be filing a petition against me that may affect my bank account, and left this 844- number as a callback. They do not state their company name, and the number that showed up on caller ID was 469-340-4178.
Both numbers, when called back, are answered by Mid-Atlantic Consumer Services. - BigA replies to RachelFederal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt. It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes. The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.

No name of person calling, or name of company given. The phone # came up as 732 376-8146...and wanted a return call back to 844 230-0298.

- JSame thing - check protest claim that a Mid Atlantic Consumer Services claimed would "effect all or any bank accounts in my name" which I doubt is at all legal. I called 844-230-0298 back and demanded that they validate the debt per the FDCPA. The guy immediately raised his voice and started talking over me saying I wouldn't get that, but I would get served papers regarding a court case and judgement against me. Complete scam trying to scare you into paying money you don't owe. Never heard of this 'Kenwood Services' that he was referencing and he never gave me the "mini-miranda" that all legitimate debt collectors give you over the phone.
Best advice is probably to ignore them, but there's nothing legally stopping you from calling them and messing wtih them or arguing with them. If you're like me and remain calm in arguments, it really ticks them off. A better course of action is probably to report them to your attorney general's office http://www.naag.org/ and the FTC https://www.ftc.gov/- Caller: Mid Atlantic Consumer Services

- Rick BlahsoThese clowns have called me for the same person " Kelly Ann Whitmeyer" for almost a year now. Every month they change the company name when they call, but it's usually traced backed to one the scam companies that operates out of a building on Peachtree Boulevard in Atlanta, Georgia. This is their latest scam, claiming they're going to file a "check protest" and your bank account may be affected. Hahahahaha, just last week they were threatening a wage garnishment and a sheriff coming to my door- like they even had the power to do that. I called them back and as usual gave them three numbers to contact this Kelly Ann Whitmeyer at, the dog pound, the town tax office and a funeral home. Don't give these people any mind folks. They buy up old debts and then try to scare people into paying off on things they may or may not owe. Tell them to mail everything to you and your lawyer will look it over. They're the swine of the earth.

- Rick Blahso replies to HamirIt's a scam. Tell them, to mail you everything. You'll never hear from them again. They just try to scare people into sending quick cash.
- SimonaGot the same message today from a 312 area code number but was told to call 855.203.7594. I called the 312 number first and a lady answered the phone with "Thank you for calling Mid Atlantic Services" greeting. I asked her what kind of company it was and she said it was a collection agency. I said "thank you" and hung up.
An hour later I got a colleague of mine to play lawyer and we called the 855 number together. The guy that answered the phone did not know how to get rid of us faster. He couldn't provide me with any info regarding my "check protest claim" and then went on to claim that he was only the receptionist and once my attorney faxed them the verification letter they could forward my case to someone within the company that can provide me with more info. Here is the info we got from him:

- Debra| 1 replyReceived a call from Mid Atlantic Consumers stating they are filing a court order on a credit card from 10years ago that I know I paid. The rep Joseph Lincoln who continues call and every time it is from a different number and is demanding I give him a debit card and or credit card to set up installments when I asked him for the statement(s) from the credit card company he emails me a letter that is generic with nothing on it that looks legal. I asked for the documents from this credit card company and his response is its to late this company Mid Atlantic is in process of filing in court Joeseph said I have until 1:00 pm PST on August 12 2015?to set up installments and provide a credit card and or Devit card I call the numbers and after 10 rings a recording answers asking to leave your name and number. I have recently heard of phone scams from IRS, Collection Companies and Utility Companies

- CWG40 replies to DebraAppears to be some sort of debt scamming operation. Unable to locate " Mid Atlantic Consumers" in the records of the Secretary of State of New York. Do not pay them anything. Do not agree to. And DO NOT give them any financial account numbers. No CC or debit card.
If there was any sort of court order out on you, you would have heard about it from the attorney for the other side. You would have received a letter. You would have a paper trail. You would have been properly served by a process server authorized to serve process in your state. There can be no court order without some sort of court proceedings already filed.
You can check this out yourself by simply going down to your local main court house in your county and checking the civil list of cases and seeing if your name is on it. Court clerks will usually be glad to help you.
Just because a voice on the telephone claims you owe a debt does not mean you owe it
If a voice on the telephone claims you owe a debt:
1. Demand the person give you his or her name, company name, and address
2. Demand a debt validation letter by US mail. E-mail no good.
3. Do not pay the collection agent or anyone else a DIME until the debt is validated.
Of course they won’t do this, no scammer ever will, so simply block their calls and ignore them.
If they are bothering you,
Report them:
http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0149-debt-collection
Also contact your local attorney general
If they continue to bother you, and you know you do not owe any money, tell them that you know this is a debt scam and that you are making a complaint to the police for extortion. You might have to yell at the scammer and talk over him or her. Once you get a copy of the police report and they call you again , just read out the file number and the name of the PD or Sheriff’s office involved. Tell them you’ll be glad to send a copy to them at whatever address the jack***es are working out of now. - BigAMID ATLANTIC CONSUMER SERVICES AKA MACS AKA STAMM LAW FIRM

Web site gives an alleged address different from state and BBB files and is of course a UPS store:
http://www.midatlanticconsumer.com/contact.html
BBB gives them a B+ with 6 complaints and an address in a UPS store (a different one) and also lists them as being in business since 2014 which conflicts with their state registration:
