- Carol| 3 repliesFraud call from this number
- Caller: Bank of America
- Call type: Debt collector
- JES| 1 replyCalled my cell phone with an alert of a security breach on my Bank of America account. I was in a store and could not talk at the time. They gave me a case number to call the number on the back of my debit card. I called BOA and they have no record of this phone number. Its' a scam.
- Caller: Bank of America (so said)
- sunny| 1 replyThis is from Bank of America Compliance department. They need to update International address and Status if the information is old. I called Fraud department and they confirmed that it is from Bank of America only.
- Caller: Bank of America
- sunny replies to JESIts not fraud. It is from Bank of America only. Fraud department confirmed it.
- Janice| 1 replyThis is a legitimate number for Bank Of America compliance department. They wanted to confirm my phone number because another person used the same number when opening an account. So they needed confirmation of who's number this is.
- Caller: Bank Of America
- TerryReceived call and called back. Bank of America Compliance Department validating some of my information. I called the 800 on the back of my credit card and asked if the number was legitimate. No verification from them and I felt the lady was too busy eating her lunch while talking to me. I will close by BOA account based on this telephone conversation. The BOA lady was down right rude and unhelpful. Beware!
- Caller: Bank of America
- Some guyYup, Bank of America's compliance department. They gave me this number to call to resolve an account information issue.
- CWG40Seven entries so far . and five of them set up to tell us all how "legitimate" these calls are.
Another pre-emptive shill attempt supposedly representing a financial institution.
The same scam that's been going around hitting banks and credit union customers since about 2011, based on my research.
Never respond to these type of calls. All questions concerning any account you own, should be directed to the official phone lines of your bank or credit union. You can find this out by simply looking over your monthly bank or credit union statement.
Any problems concerning a bank card should be resolved by calling the number on the back of the card. Of course, never give out financial or personal information to anyone you do not personally know.
My feeling is that this scam is being perpetuated by a gang of white collar criminals-- most likely located in the US and Canada.- Caller: Informational/opinion post

- BonnieBee| 1 replyReceived a "reply required" letter in the mail from B of A asking for personal information. I could call the number listed on letter or send back a response. I called my B of A and this is a SCAM/FRAUD!
Beware of this number and their letter to call this number. - JR| 1 replyThis number was from some paperwork that was sent that "looked like" it came from BofA. Funny, this number is not listed or associated with BofA. Those claiming that it is are part of the SCAM. The legitimate-looking IRS forms that ask for your SSN says to "Give form to Requestor. Do not sent to IRS". Now why would BofA who I've been banking with since 1990 NOT have my SSN?.... because this is a BIG OL' **S C A M** Do not answer, do not fill out any paperwork and DO NOT GIVE OUT YOUR SSN!!!
- Caller: SCAM
- NoshYup, this is a scam. It also happened with my other bank account. Also, these guys have become smart enough and in forums like these their guys write messages teatifying that it is not so. Best to call your bank or go to a branch to to confirm this scam.
- Arby| 1 replyGot call and also an official looking 5 page letter requesting address and W-9 form with return envelope to Phoenix Arizona -- threatening to close acct if information not provided. I called bank directly and was told this was a scam. Was told the phone number given and the address given were not valid Bank of America numbers or addresses. Said these scams happen all the time.
- Caller: Bank of America Compliance Dept
- Arby| 2 repliesEven though the woman whom I called from the phone number on the back of my Bank of America CREDIT CARD claimed this was a scam, I decided to go into a BANK BRANCH office and check with them. Lo and behold they told me this WAS legitimate. They looked up my account and showed me on the computer screen the "ALERTS" for the missing information on my account, and it also showed a log of each time the compliance dept had called me and each time they had sent me a letter. The record was indeed accurate. In fact it showed they had called me that very day. I phoned home and indeed they had called that day while I was at work. Then they showed me the phone number on the screen for the compliance dept. and it was the same number I had received in the phone calls and official looking letter. The bank updated my information right then and there on their computer. Did not need to fill out W-9 form or even give my SS#. They just confirmed who I was with my drivers license. I believe all this information they needed is related to regulations of the Patriot Act (like physical address, and employment status). BOTTOM LINE -- If you get a call or letter like this GO INTO THE BANK IN PERSON so you know you are not dealing with a scammer.

- Scammed replies to ArbyLiar
- Dick| 1 replyReally strange about everyone telling about how legit this scam is as I received a letter also. The flashing light on this is I do not have an account with BOA. Not checking, credit card or anything. Worst bank in the world to deal with. It is a scam.
- Jen| 1 replyGot a packet in the mail today that had this phone number listed on the front page of very legit-looking stationery. The documents were requests for personal info: full name, street address, TIN/SSN, EIN, employment info, etc., plus the usual warnings that failure to provide requested info would affect all my accounts (closure aND such). Well, as the *only* business I do with BofA is my home mortgage, I immediately became suspicious. Read through everything and found some discrepancies, so thought the wise thing to do would be to call customer service -- and NOT from the number supplied in the packet. I got the number from my mortgage statements. Long story short, customer service confirmed my suspicions: this is a SCAM! So she provided an address for me to send the whole packet to so I can officially report the fraud. Bottom line: if your spidey-sense is activated in the slightest way, call to a number you know is legit and confirm before sending any personal info out. So glad I did!
- Caller: Bank of America
- JenSorry...I shouldn't have listed Bank of America as the caller. It should be listed as "Scam" or "Fraud."
- Kay acc replies to ArbyI just called Bank of America , the number on my mortgage statement as was told it is not a scam and I didn't have to talk to anyone at number on letter, but I could go into any bank branch and update my info.
- Rsw| 3 repliesReceived emails and official looking W-9 form mail telling me to call this number. I had already called BoA and was told they had no record of these emails and would not contact me this way. Reported it to their abuse dept. Why would they not have my date of birth? That info doesn't change from one year to the next. That was my red flag.
