- Tired of ScamsThey have been calling a lot. I am going to block them. I do not even have an account with Bank of America and never had one in the past! I get so many scam calls, it is ridiculous. Why can't these people find REAL jobs, instead of trying to scam people out of their hard earned money???
- JimI received a letter purportedly from Bank of America today, telling me they were closing my account and that I should call 844-253-3707 if I had questions. The letter also contained a check for the remaining balance on the account. Unthinkingly, I called the number given in the letter (instead of calling a B of A number I trust), talked to people, and provided my date of birth and social security number. I should never have done this. (I like to think I'm smart enough to never click on a link in an email, but apparently I'm dumb enough to call a number given in a snail mail.) On the other hand, I called a trusted B of A number afterwards, and they told me that 844-253-3707 is indeed their business credit card office, so it turns out that I gave my confidential information to B of A and not a scammer.
My conclusion: even if the people on this thread shouting "Scam! Scam!" are wrong in this particular case, they're right on the general principle. It was stupidstupidstupid of me to call a number just because it came in the mail, and to assume that the people I was talking to were who they were claiming to be. I hope I've learned from my mistake and will be more careful in the future.
Anyone who thinks I'm "in on the con" should look up the phone number for Bank of America using a trusted web browser, call the bank, and ask them whether 844-253-3707 is a valid number of the business credit card office.- Caller: Bank of America

- Don replies to JoeIt is a fraud, and you are part of it.
- Predators| 2 repliesMy father got a letter from BOA claiming they needed personal info. The letter had a paragraph of "what will happen if you don't respond" items like closing your account immediately, drilling open your safe deposit box, etc. The letter head was a faded red and when compared to BOA bill statements, not at all alike. I am glad I have trained my dad to put all inquiries on my desk...without answering them. I am 100% sure this is a scam.

- TheRealSeriously® replies to PredatorsI would also give Bank of America a call at the number on your bills and ask them about the call-however, I do agree with you, something doesn't smell kosher.
- Mike-in-MD replies to PredatorsIf he has BoA accounts you should probably call his branch directly to verify there are no issues such as account inactivity that could lead to escheat transfer of his funds to the State. However, any letter should have mentioned the reasons they were taking the actions mentioned in the letter but better to be safe then sorry by contacting his bank branch.
- Christina| 1 replyThey know most people will call back on the number they send out and so they want you to feel comfortable and tell you to call the bank number on the back of your card or go into a branch because you will think"why would they tell me this if it was a scam" and then you would go ahead with the call. Sometimes they say if you feel uncomfortable just call the customer service line at "Whatever number they want you to call" and so you do, not realizing this is the scam as well. I just wait and if they close my account then I go in and fix it then. I still have my accounts as the deadline has came and went twice lol IT IS A SCAM! The address on the front says one thing that is legit but the info on the return envelope is wrong!

- Christina replies to ChristinaAlso they can record your answers and use it to call the bank themselves and get access to your account.
- BGA| 1 replyReceived a letter from Bank America advising that they needed employment & salary information or they would close my account. Since I am retired & not employed I did not respond as it appeared they were looking to sell retirement investments. Subsequently, I placed an order with a company using my BOA credit card (whose expiration date is good until 2023) & BOA denied the transaction giving no reason to the company for the denial. I called the 800 # on the back of the card who advised that they could not remove the block and that I would have to call AML at 844-253-3707. It was the party at BOA's 800 # that gave me the 844-253-3707 number. I called the 844 # during non working hours and their recording does respond as BOA giving their regular working hours. However, I intend to stop at a BOA bank office (as suggested by several others) to straighten the matter out and if it can't be then I will use a different bank card.

- Tygerkat replies to BGAWhy would you come to a phone number look-up site when you apparently already know to whom this number belongs?
- LynneThis is a SCAM! Do not believe it. Go into your local branch to report and check your accounts. If the bank needs anything it will be in your file there. They are extremely clever so don’t fall for it!

- UnknownI literally just called BOA (number with 1000 at the end) and they said they sent me a letter. I feel like these scammers are copying the exact text from the real authentic letter. Just go to the nearest BOA location and let them update the missing information.

- TltI received a letter, and a call from this number. Said they were from BoA.. The letter looked official. Letter stated that if I didn't take action my accounts would be closed. They were asking for my DoB.. I wouldn't give it to them..

- StevieThis was listed on Bank of America request for more information to update files. So I went to a BOA branch in person today, and they checked & verified the number IS theirs. Of course, if you get a call looking like its FROM this number, remember Caller ID is unreliable & can be spoofed to be made to look like it's any number. But calls TO this number are legit as of Sept 2021.

- NicolasI’ve received several legit looking letters from Bank of America asking for my social security number and tax identification number. Even received a “check” from them. Obviously I’m not giving them that information. I went to a Bank of America and was told to call this number, but I don’t have a Bank of America account and never opened one. The letters are obviously a scam/fraud.
