Called saying there is complaint about me.
A robot sounding voice says my name.
They are also calling people I know!
I don't know how they're figuring out who I know unless they are using people search sites or looking at social media.
My lawyer told me that legal complaints are never handled over the phone and to ignore these calls but they keep calling!

I think it's old payday loan they keep selling over and over for a guy I have no clue of. I either got his old number now 10 years... or the jerk keeps handing out my phone. Call your State Attorney General. File a complaint. If it's not you/yours they will prosecute and fine $10,000.00 minimum for every complaint.

It's beyond illegal to threaten criminal action. Reserved for law enforcement and agents of the court. Not debt collectors. You need to call your State Attorney generals office immediately. They can find the real numbers behind the spoofed and nail those jerks. If it's criminal...a cop already knows where to find you if you have a job. Companies have to file new hire reports (for child support etc) so no one would call you on the phone.

Got a recorded message for a relative that has never lived at my address. The recording was from an automated machine stating my relatives name in a computer generated voice. The recording tried to sound like a 'law enforcement' individual using terms like 'we are trying to obtain the whereabouts' & 'please have this individual contact us immediately to avoid further enforcement'. So this tells me 2 things. 1 they know they are calling phone numbers not belonging to the person they are looking for so they are using collection products like LEXIS NEXUS or TLOxp. 2 they are using scare tactics that are completely illegal in the collection agency business. I called the phone # back & got a recording that said 'extension blah blah blah is not available'. I called phone # this morning & got a company called COASTAL (nice generic name) I spoke with Mr. Smith (another generic name) told him to remove my phone # from his call list for this person as they don't live there. Also calling & trying to sound like you are a 'law enforcement agency is against the law when it comes to collections. Your company is being reported to FCC'. He hung up  on me after that. Total scam!

Did they contact family members as well? Because they called me a while back and now my sister just text me that they left her a voicemail

I recived the same call today Im thinking it is because we have adds on craigslist, if you got a text from someone requesting your email, that could be the scammer

Called and left message using my last name that I haven't used/had for over 10 years. This joker did the same thing to my mother a couple months ago which scared her to death, literally. She passed a way May 3rd. They should be arrested!!!!

Called our business again today and this time it was dead air before they hung up, so definitely a robo caller.

I've been receiving multiple calls a day from this number, always using the exact same script:"Hello I am calling in regards to a formal complaint against one Jane Doe...".  I finally spoke to one of the people making the call. He said he was offering mediation services prior to some pending court date, of which there is none. I told him I had already reported his number to the Federal Communications Commission and he hung up on me mid-sentence. Haven't heard back from them since.

Tell them you have reported them to the FCC - it worked for me.

The call is a recording looking for me. The caller is calling my mother and freaking her out. The caller needs to stop bothering my mother for real! Also, the caller has called my employer with the same voice presentation as a tactic of intimidation.  All of this needs to stop immediately.

Criminals are masquerading as debt collectors in an attempt to extort money from people by scaring them into believing that:
a.    You are going to be sued and it will cost you lots of money when they allegedly “win” their case.
b.    That they are about to file criminal charges or that you will be criminally charged (they use the bad check or hot check claim a lot) and go to jail, even though debt is civil not criminal, there are no criminal charges, and debtor’s prison was outlawed over 200 years ago.
c.    That they will take away your driver’s license.
d.    That will garnish your wages without actually being suing you, going to court, or even winning a case and obtaining a judgement followed by a judge’s consent to the garnishment.  They also claim that your wages will be garnished in amounts far above all legal limits.

One of the tricks they use is to call your family, friends, neighbors and/or places of employment (past or present or both) to create panic and embarrassment so that their intended victim calls them and they can scare that person into paying their extortion money.  They often call people that have never even been associated with you because they get erroneous information off of the internet.

They will use the words “Mediator”, “Arbitrator”, “Law Office” or claim that they are a “Lawyer or Paralegal” to make you believe that they are something other than a debt collector want-a-be and that they don’t have to follow Federal and State collection laws, even though they do have to follow those laws.  They also tell you that if you fail to call them back you are "waiving your right to council" or that “the case will proceed without you” which is pretty much nothing but hogwash.  They tell you that they need a “statement” from you regarding the complaint and if you don’t call back they “wish you good luck as things unfold”. They use the phrase “consider yourself notified/served” or “govern yourself accordingly” a lot, something they should do themselves.

They claim they are officers of the court, or that an officer will accompany them, or even that they are sending officers to arrest you.  All hogwash.  They tell you to lock up your dogs and guns for “everyone’s” protection.  More hogwash.

They mention that they have received a Fax document, to create the sense of urgency and tell you that they are a “process server”. This is simply ruse to get you to call another number (with a made up case number) where they will ask for money to “make it go away” (this is actually the same place, they work in teams, one pretending to be the server, and the other usually pretends to be a lawyer).  They threaten to serve you at home or at work.  They tell you that if they serve you at work they need a supervisor, security, or HR person there as a witness, hoping that will cause you to panic over the alleged embarrassment of being served at work.  They also tell you that you will need two forms of ID.  None of which is true.  Process servers do not ever call ahead so that you can dodge them.  Process servers get paid to serve papers, nothing else.  They certainly are not going to pass up a paycheck by telling you that you can avoid being served, they are not going to give you an extra day or even a few hours to get a “stop order”.  Court documents are time sensitive and have to be served within a certain amount of time.  Remember that you can always call the local courthouse to see if there is actually a lawsuit that has been filed against you.

It is incumbent upon them under the law to prove that the debt exists and that you owe it, and that they have the legal right to collect it.  You are not obligated under the law to prove that you don’t owe or that it is paid.  

Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) postmarked within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt.  It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes.  The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.

Someone from this company, coastal financial services, left a message.  The person "claimed" a complaint was lodged against my husband who passed away over 6 years ago.  This company is a scam!  Number is now blocked!  Block this number ASAP!!!!

Says I owe a loan that was taken out 10-12 years ago! BS! Robocall too! Report it to Consumer Protection and block! Also report it to this place too!

Received a call from the same number and they left a voice mail. The name they asked for was not audible and sounded recorded.

Called and scared my mother who just lost her husband my father saying they wanted to speak to me regarding some investigation. I called back and they hung up than when he did answer he couldnt explain it to me and seemed confused than hung up

Im so pissed they have just scared my mom and she just lost her husband those [***]!!!
