- Tina| 14 repliesGot a call today . I did not answer and they left no voice mail.
- Melissa replies to Tina| 11 repliesI also received a call they claim to be a collection agency. I'm looking to find validity to that before giving my card number out.
- Jayson replies to Melissa| 10 repliesNEVER give your card out! They called you, and if true, they already have that information. If you are concerned, call the phone number on your card...you of course may need to give your number then (when YOU call the number on your card).
- anonymous| 2 repliesCalled me, no one on the line, must be a computer. I called back on a different phone. Says this is Wakefield Collection, a collection agency.
- Caller: Wakefield Collection
- Call type: Debt collector

- MrCalled me today, all they said was "Today." It was a male caller
- Anon replies to Jayson| 9 repliesWhy would they already have your card info??? It's probably a collection agency that buys hospital debts
- T| 1 replyGot called, wanted to confirm my address, saying it was a personal matter, wouldn't say anything else until I gave it to them... so I hung up
- Bobby| 2 repliesThis number calls me every single day. I have blocked the number, but somehow it still is able to leave a voicemail about once a week. Said it was Wakefield and Associates. Something about a Medical Bill from 4 years ago. Not sure how this all of a sudden popped up. Do not answer if these people call
- Caller: Wakefield and Associates
- Call type: Debt collector
- LauraThis is Wakefield and Associates. It is indeed a collection agency and I have had to pay them in the past. The few times I have had to deal with this it has been Hospital bills that were turned over (thanks to them never updating my address)
- Caller: Wakefield and Associates
- Call type: Debt collector
- Jason| 1 replyI have gotten calls from them for the past few days. No messages left. I have no debts in collection, so I suspect they are not a real debt collection agency.
- BigA replies to JasonDebt collectors don't care if you owe or even if you are the wrong person, they simply want someone, anyone to pay so they get their commission. Reviews & Complaints
BBB has identified a potential pattern of complaints. Specifically, consumers allege Billing or Collection Issues stating that they were wrongfully sent to collections, incurred unauthorized charges or were overcharged.
BBB received a response from the business on June 24, 2015 addressing the aforementioned issues. The business stated that accounts are only sent to collections when delinquent and past due. According to the business, the Fair Credit Reporting Act allows them to report on a delinquent account after 30 days; however, for the benefit of the consumer, they push out their right to report to eight months past the original 30 days. If the consumer pays their bill within this time period, there is no adverse credit consequences of non-payment. BBB will continue to monitor the complaints.
BBB shows 108 complaints!

Call from a variety of numbers. Rude employees, failure to ID themselves, refusal to take anything but an over-the-phone payment. Sometimes refusal to send written evidence of debt. Bad records. Endless harassing calls to the wrong party. General lack of professionalism. Use of flaky “process servers” to Intimidate debtors. Some suggestion that overseas contract employees are used. Same old, same old grungy money-grubbing, debtor-intimidating debt collector we all know and dislike.

- lisa mullerCalls everyday.
- F-McDI've received several calls from this company in the last few weeks. I have now spoke with them twice. They claim they have received a $1,600+ debt from the City as a unpaid sewer bill. I am on septic tank. They said this is from 8/1/2015 at a previous address (which was all valid information) but I still did not trust them. Today when they called I asked that they send me all information they have on record so I can look into it before sending off that amount of money. She said they have sent me two itemized statements but I never received anything from this company. She gave me a website, username and password to get all of the pertinent information I would need. HOWEVER... she asked to verify some information prior to hanging up. I said sure. She provided my current address and asked if it is correct, yes. She asked if the number she had called was a legit home number, it was not, it is my cell number. She said she would note my account to update. She then asked to verify my SSN, I said I DO NOT do that over the phone, not even with a company I know for a fact I do business with. She immediately hung up.
I feel this is a fishing company and they have come up with a way to get people to pay them money for things that they don't owe OR they are getting SSN's from innocents. Always ask questions and verify it is legit with random phone calls.- Caller: Wakefield and Associates
- Call type: Debt collector
- M.D.I get a call from this number every single day. I have it on the "blocked" list on my phone so it doesn't actually go through but it does show up as a "Blocked call". I have called it back and only gotten a recorded message. They never left a message before I blocked them. If it was legit, or urgent, they would leave a message. Even if I didn't call them back!
- Jayson replies to Anon| 5 repliesLet me reword as I misread understood at first... So, first and foremost, do not provide any information or verify any information (you do not want to agree that you owe money just in case that could be in disburse). Find out who or what debit they are calling about, if they ask just say you need to verify them, do not give credit card numbers, checking account numbers, SSN and not even your birthday. Now, contact with a know number, the company that the debt came from to verify the account is in collection (or was sold off) and if they cannot help because they sold it off or something like that, see if they can provide contact information to the collection company. Never trust a phone call in...and the more they push or make the issue 'urget', they more you should be skeptical of the person calling. In short, you most likely know if you have a troubled account, it is time to just call the company you had / have the debit with and start a dialog as to reach a resolution.
- Jayson replies to TPerfect! Thank you for protecting yourself! As 'T' did, just hang up if they cannot provide at the very least, who they represent, it is not unrealistic for them to say, this is XYZ calling on behalf of ACME Widget Company. They do not have to say why they are calling, just who they are representing... again, you probably know that you have an account that has an issue.
- Jayson replies to Bobby| 1 replyDepending on how you have your phone setup, if they call back twice in a row within a given amount of time, the phone generally will allow them to "ring through" and or leave a message as it might be in 'emergency'.
